Changes have come… and more are likely gonna come. Here are the changes since my first review about a year ago: 1 The name has been changed to The Taverna. 2. The hours of operation have been reduced.(Just Friday and Saturday now I think.) 3. Still owned by Maragas Winery. Still serving some beer and only Maragas wines and small plates to go with them, the local chef created food has been replaced by much simple offerings.(Think cheese plates and dolmas.) What hasn’t changed is that this is still a charmingly funky place to go, remodeled from an old house. In particular in warmer summer months to take advantage of the outdoor patio at the front of the building and be part of the bustle of traffic in the Mill District where it is located. But times have been tough for this little place. Foreclosure action has been posted against the property. Looks like auction of the property is to be soon held at the local courthouse. I don’ know what that means for the operation of The Taverna, but I’m thinking it does not bode well for longevity of the effort. So, go while you can to enjoy this little place and support the folks who had the chutzpah to open the first winery in Central Oregon and hang in there to produce some pretty good wines. Nice people. Their winery in Culver is still perking along with tastings offered Tue — Sun. So you can visit them there too, regardless of the ultimate fate of The Taverna.

Beautiful and cozy atmosphere. Very friendly staff. Lovely wine. I liked the classy use of wine barrel décor. And the 60’s themed beat nick picture(also used on one of the labels). Had a nice sampling flight for only $ 7. Kyle(sp), the wine guy made an amazing and fresh homemade eggplant spread(with pita on the side). So fresh it was still warm. Portions were a bit small, but very tasty for small plates. Very affordable wines. I am not a Muscat fan, but the one they had was delish! Not sicky sweet, but lightly sweet and crisp. Their other whites were very good too.!Would definitely return! Going back today to buy a few bottles Sav. blanc for a bbq!
