Pegasus Gourmet Chocolate

Happened upon this store today when checking out the small grocery next door to it. So glad I walked in. The owner was so talkative and friendly to me and my daughter and offered us several samples to taste. We took home some milk chocolate cashew clusters (delicious!) and some dark chocolate mint circles (can’t remember what she called them but I WILL buy them again).
She said she will always take orders over the phone for gift boxes or do them in store. I love giving local gifts as presents and our out of state family and friends will all be getting a great taste of Bend this year!
I wish this store was in a more visible location so their chocolate would be more widely known around town.

Very sweet and helpful lady helped m me pick out a gift box. Tasty, report the recipients! It smelled divine in there and looked like something whimsical out of Wonka’s factory.

I just tried Pegasus today based largely on previous reviews. I usually go to See’s but there isn’t one in Bend so I’ve been looking for a comparison. Pegasus is fantastic and much better than See’s both in quality and atmosphere. For me the service was outstanding and it was the owner who helped us. He was super friendly and very knowledgeable. I only eat dark chocolate and he had dark for all types. Very very happy I went there.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! I’ve always had great service and their chocolates put Sees to shame! I love that it is a local business. They take pride in their work and it shows. Yes, a little expensive, but so worth it!

The husband and wife team are charming, old world proprietors. Whenever I visit Bend I insist upon stopping at Pegasus. Several friends in the Bay Area have become fans from the chocolates I’ve brought back with me. Its a lovely store with a wonderful selection of very high quality sweets!

Located inside the Wagner Mall, in between Rite Aid and Nature’s Natural Foods, this good sized retail store and gourmet chocolate production facility is a little hard to find the first time. I found it a couple of years ago when they first opened at this site but had not been in to Pegasus in well over a year. When walking by today the aroma of dark chocolate wafting out the door beckoned me inside.
This was my fourth visit to Pegasus and the aroma and the incredible displays of handmade chocolates, including truffles of all kinds, toffees, caramels, turtles and bark made me try to remember why it was I had waited so long between my third visit and this one.
Then I tried to get waited on.
That made me remember the service was typically not great here. In fact, although there are always a couple of folks working in the back of the store and a bell rings when you enter and they look up to see you, you can wait quite a long time before one of them comes up to ask, «What would you like?», without apology for the delay in coming to the counter and in a tone that suggests it is inconvenient for them to wait on you and without a smile or a thank you for your business when you hand them your money and take your chocolates.
That happened again today. And it made me remember that on my last visit in, the third visit, I walked out thinking three strikes for them on bad service and they were out of luck for having my business
So now I probably really won’t be back. Still, hoping your experience might be different than my multiple experiences have been, I’m an eternally chocolate box half full type, you may want to give this a try. The chocolates really are good, especially anything dark chocolate, even if just a tad spendy. (Don’t know what it equates to per pound, by in my experience three chocolates clock it at a little over $ 4.00 each time.)
BOTTOM LINE: Four stars for chocolates, two stars for service, we’ll split the difference and call it three stars.

Incredible chocolates!!! They make the best chocolates in Central Oregon. Absolutely love Pegasus Chocolates.
