Great food and love the place. Service has gotten progressively worse in 2016. Waitresses know nothing about what drinks are available, I have had to get our family their own knives the last two visits, they don’t fill water glasses, they don’t clear empty plates, and just extremely slow to bring everything. I will continue to eat there because the food is good but not going to plan on giving many tips.

Pretty great overall. The banana pudding is AMAZING. It’s light and fluffy. I couldn’t rave more. The BBQ is pretty good overall. I did not like the ribs; they were a little too heavy in to dry rub and pepper and tough. The sausage and brisket though was wonderful. Overall, I didn’t hate it!

So a couple of my friends and I had heard about this place from a local. We were seated in 15 minutes and ordered drinks. we fell in love with the sweet tea, the waitress had a hard time keeping our glasses full we were gulping it down so fast. But we loved our waitress! She helped us with everything and cheered on our friend as he faced the challenge! So the second time we were in town we heard this place had a food challenge. So being the hungry apocalyptic survivors we were for the weekend, one of our guys took it on. As soon as he ordered it with in ten minutes this monster came out. I forget what all it had on it, but it was like a pound of brisket, pound of sausage, a pound of burger, with jalapeño poppers on top with various other pound foods. The burger alone was massive, along with the sides. If you eat it under a set amount of time, it’s free.

Returning from a work trip down south, we detoured off the highway to pay a visit. Very neat place kinda in the middle of no-where. But let’s cut to the chase, cause I don’t have much time right now: Atmosphere: Clean and friendly — definitely«country» vibe, which works just fine. Value: portion sizes(combined with the ribs) are what saved this from being and even lower rating. Food: While the slices of brisket were huge, and were cut-it-with-your-fork tender, they just didn’t carry any flavor. I found the pulled pork to be more dry than expected. Thankfully the ribs saved the day.

Best BBQ in the Temple/Belton/MP area! We are regulars after church on Sunday and can’t get enough of it! Not only is the BBQ good, but they have so many other options like the Bubba tater, redneck burrito, delicious burgers, and many more awesome items! I will say that the wait can be long sometimes, however you can’t rush perfection!

First time here they were amazing, second time dry, third time(I did go back) dry, 4th time I got Bubba tater asked no sour cream extra side of Ranch dressing(order was to go) got home and no dressing! Meat is dry and hardly any Bbq sauce that it comes with per the menu!!! Clearly 4 times I’m out! Lesson learned one more trip TOOLATE!

The bartender was really nice and easy to talk to. They had a nice bottled beer selection at reasonable prices. I had the Bubbatater, which as other people have mentioned, is really good. If you do get it, ID recommend getting it with pulled pork. I got it with pork and brisket, which was just out of sight. Next time I’m at Ft. Hood, I’m definitely making the drive.

Such a really nice bbq place. The portions were huge and no need for a fork, the meat just came off the bone. The best thing all night was the Bubba Fries Deluxe, which came with brisket, bbq sauce, cheese, sour cream and green onions, it was soooo delicious! The potato wedges were perfectly crispy on the outside & soft and moist on the inside. The brisket was smokey & tender. Also, our server, Kim was super friendly and attentive, our drinks were always filled and orders came out exactly right. Seriously, best service we’ve had in a while. She never missed a beat, not to say that the rest of the staff weren’t also great, cause they were. We came to this bbq joint on a whim, and it was kinda out of our way, but so glad we came, it was really worth it! I’d love to come back when we head this way again :)

I’m new to Temple/Belton area but man this was a great place to stop. I got Bubbas Loaded Tater with brisket. Absolutely amazing and I could only eat half of it. The server, Jessika, was very sweet and made sure I had the right NFL game on in front of my table. Portions: huge Price: very reasonable Service: friendly and attentive Will definitely be back!

Food is great, but I couldn’t give it 5 stars because the service is consistently bad! If you can get over your server ignoring you, your drink not being refilled and it taking a while to get your food — it’s the best burger in Bell County!

My son and I hit the Backyard on Sunday– Memorial day weekend after spending the morning kayaking on Belton lake. This place is a true gem of a find and has some of the best durn BBQ I have had. We ordered the brisket, ribs, and sausage platter. I think it was like $ 12 bucks. The Brisket was tender, moist and juicy. Ribs were the same and the meat melts off the bone. The bark was special, a nicely seasoned rub and full of Texas love smoked goodness. I bend the knee to the pit master. He is a true artist! The sausage was outstanding. Not that cheap Eckrich type that many places serve, this was some good Hill Country type of sausage love. The sowse(sauce) was good but I don’t put sauce on my BBQ. Onion Rings were prepared in a thick crunchy batter that were a little on the salty side. Could have been better if served with a homemade ranch dip or some custom Chipolte ranch? I highly recommend the Backyard!

This is true homemade BBQ. Everything is great here! I wasn’t disappointed with anything. I tried the chicken, brisket, sausage, onion rings, brisket quesadilla and bubba fries. Yum! Worth stopping by if in the area.

Wow! This place is about to be famous. I’ve had BBQ from Luling to Llano and Taylor and Lockhart. Ribs are meaty, smoked to perfection and tender as Big Tex’s heart. Get here before the crowd does. Also get the pit master’s autograph. .he’s a shoo in for the Food Network.

There’s nothing better then being in unfamiliar territory, starving, craving a beer and coming across a gem like Backyard BBQ. I’m not familiar with the area so I had to rely on good olé Unilocal and it did not let me down. The décor is very casual, has a good home feel to it. Staff is friendly and the prices are great. I had the BBQ bacon burger and the husband had the redneck burrito. Meals came out quickly and tasted great. Huge portions for the price. If I’m ever in the area again, this will be my go-to spot

First time to this well-reviewed bbq restaurant. The inside is fun: picnic tables, huge large screen TV’s for Sunday football, and a bar, but still quiet enough to hold conversations: Awesome!!! Great service — attentive, happy, efficient, and helpful. Brisket fell apart, but it was really dry; the ribs were fall-apart-in-your-mouth deliciousness! The bbq sauce was thin and lacked flavor — not my favorite. The side salad was surprisingly delicious — comes with spice on top, cheese, chopped tomatoes, shredded carrots and cabbage, and croutons — wish I’d ordered my own. The bubba fries were thick, spiced well, tender inside, crispy outside, and comes with ranch dipping sauce = YUM! Kid’s meals were very reasonably priced — got a grilled cheese and(delicious) fries combo for $ 4. I’m told(by husband): Bathrooms are questionable — no baby changing table in men’s room(I didn’t check the ladies’ room).

Pretty good BBQ. Not the best in Texas, for sure… but pretty good. Their menu is interesting. It’s a BBQ joint, but you do not see BBQ until the 2nd or 3rd page of the menu. They seem to feature a lot of hamburgers and a giant stuffed baked potato. We ordered BBQ, and I tried the«Bubba Tater,» which is a large baked potato, stuffed with cheese, butter, sour cream, and either brisket, sausage, or both. Comes out stacked pretty tall, but once you cut into it, you realize that the meat is just sitting on top of the potato, so it’s really just about presentation. Flavor was good, sauce was good, portion size was more than enough. My family seemed to like the BBQ, and all finished their plates. Waitress was not clear about certain up-charges on certain items, so we got stuck with about $ 4 – 5 of «add-ons» that were not explained. Also, $ 2 for a soda will only get you 24 oz of that soda(which they bring to you in 12 oz cans). Would have been 5 stars were it not for those things.
