This place is a must stop if you are in the Beloit downtown area. The selection of cheeses is incredible. My favorites: Merlot Cheese 8year aged cheddar Texas Chipotle They also sell this amazing«local» tomato sauce which pairs perfectly with the fresh baguette’s that they sell. Get there early because the baguette’s sell out quick. They also have a unique selection of wine and craft beers. They also sell local honey, pasta, and other goodies. They are attached to the Café Frommage which has some fresh sandwiches and amazing fresh baked cookies that are the size of my head…

We first experienced their cheese at the Janesville Farmers Market. Then one day while in Beliot antiquing, we stopped in their store. It was lunch time and was busy, but the people were very helpful. We sampled some cheese and picked out 4 types we loved. We also got some fresh baked Artisan bread. They also have sandwiches, crackers, salami and some other gourmet goodies. Although they don’t have as many choices as Fromagination in Madison, the staff here is helpful and friendly. Try their goat cheese covered with pistachios, yum.

On our drive back from the Dells to the Chicago suburbs, we missed every single exit for cheese stores. So, I Unilocaled«cheese» and found The Cheese People. It’s a couple miles(3) off the highway, but definitely worth the stop. Not only is it a cheese shop, but they also sell local crackers, wines, hard ciders, beer, salsa, etc. So many choices of each of those. Nearly everything is local and it is all delicious! We ended up bringing home 4 different cheeses, though we tasted about 7. One half of the shop is a coffee/pastry shop/café and the other half is the cheese shop. So many different choices of local high quality food products. t’s just a shop full of goodness. Additionally, the shop owners were very helpful in choosing cheeses. They let us sample several cheeses and a hard cider as well, just because I mentioned I liked hard cider. We ended up taking home 2 different hard ciders and a strawberry rhubarb wine. I love buying from local shops and even more when people are passionate about what they do. The shop owner referred to herself as a cheese monger and she definitely was. She was so informed and passionate about helping customers. That’s the kind of service that’s not found frequently anymore. Overall, I will definitely return next time we cross the border. It’s a lovely shop with lovely owners.
