Ordered a pickup order consisting of three simple items. 20 – 25 minute wait, so they said. Arrived 30 minutes later and they«forgot» to cook my food and 3 others waiting. Without telling me this, they charged me accordingly, and then told me 10 – 15 minutes and that they«forgot». This place is a joke. Food sucked also. Not sure what went wrong tonight, or is this is a consistent thing.

Very nice. Though there aren’t many vegetarian options, the food is fresh and made to order. I had hand made veggie dumplings and a spicy fried tofu with vegetables. The service was also very good.

Friends and I were excited to try this place, but ended up sorely disappointed and will not be ordering again. Upon placing an order for delivery over the phone, we were told our food would arrive in 15 minutes. As a half hour passes by, we decide to call and see what’s up with our food. The woman who answered the phone assured us the driver was on his way. Being the hungry, impatient people we were at this point, I looked up how far away the restaurant was on google maps… turns out, the driver had a 5-minute drive to us — hurray! The minutes continue to pass by, and it has now been 50 minutes since we originally ordered. After calling the restaurant again and attempting to explain the situation, we were AGAIN told the driver was on his way. An assured 15-minute wait time turned into an HOURAND15MINUTES. If that wasn’t enough, when we received our order one item was missing and another was wrong. Frustrated and ravenous, we decided to eat what we had, and were disappointed when we realized the food was room-temperature. I do not recommend ordering from this, place, especially if you are looking for delivery.

As a Belmont resident, we have now been going to GG ever since it opened and has become our go-to Chinese place for dine in or take out. They don’t have any of the rude-wait-staff like Shangri La in Belmont St and are very welcoming. Being vegetarian, I have only tasted their veggie or Tofu options which were all excellent. My requests for less oil in some of the dishes were taken into account properly and you could notice the difference. There is no alcohol service, but the place allows BYB. There is also plenty of street parking and parking in strip mall right across. The place is close of Sancta Maria hospital in the Belmont/Cambridge border. My favorite dishes here: Steamed veggie dumplings Tofu strips with hot pepper Eggplant with Yuaxing sauce MaPo Tofu. Enjoy!

After ordering food and bringing it home realizing that the order was incorrect I proceeded back to the restaurant. Only to be yelled at that that’s not what I said. Not only did they get my order wrong, but when I went back they were extremely rude and unprofessional. I may only order Chinese food six times a year, but this place will never get my business again.

My cousins live down the street from here, so it is a quick and easy pick up for food. I had ordered take out of mapo tofu and beef rice noodles. The beef rice noodles are decent, probably one the better ones I had in a long time(in the US). The mapo tofu was ok, but not quite what I’m used to eating. But do beware, when you order this, you need to order rice to go with it, as it doesn’t come with rice.

We tried this on a lark and won’t be going back. After waiting an hour for delivery(we ordered online at 7.15pm on a Sunday, and we live about eight minutes from the restaurant), we called to ask about our order. They were very nice, told us it was on its way, and we got the food about twenty minutes later. I have to say, we got the impression they hadn’t gotten our order and rushed the food when we called. When it finally came, the food was hot, and the order was correct, but we got no condiments(no dipping sauce for the dumplings, no mustard or soy sauce) and no cookies — not the end of the world, but a bummer, especially considering we called about the wait time. The pork and cabbage dumplings tasted pretty good but were overcooked, the sauce on the cold noodles was fine(spicy and vinegary but also very oily) but they were also way overcooked, the general gao’s chicken was bland overall, and the sweet-and-sour soup tasted canned. Again, we’ve had worse, but it was far from good. We won’t stray from Ginger Root again.

I have heard a lot of great comments about this place from my friends. Finally, my husband and I decided to try it. It is actually not far from where we are living and there are a lot of street parking spots near it. The traffic and parking were not an issue for us. We arrived around 7:30 pm on Thursday night. The place wasn’t full but good amount of customers. The waitress sent us to a two person table once we stepped in, no waiting. The menu has one northeastern section which is very attractive. They have a lot of traditional dishes, both meat ones and vegie ones. We ended up ordering the sour cabbage with pork, fried pork with ginger source, tou fu strip with spicy green pepper, and pork dumplings. The sour cabbage dish was very delicious. But personally, it was a little soupy. I guess there were not enough sour cabbage. The pork had too much fat on it which wasn’t my favorite. But the flavor was great! I will order it again for sure if I go back. The fried pork with the ginger source was OK. It is one kind of traditional dish but it wasn’t impressive, I think. But per my husband, it tasted like American-Chinese food… haha! Heavy enough to attract some local customers, I guess? Then go to our favorite dish of the night – Toufu Strip with spicy green pepper. ITWASAWESOME! If you prefer to eating light but still Chinese flavor, it is the one! When I was kid, my dad always cooked this for me. With some rice, hmmm, it was the best! Sauteed Toufu strip with a little spicy flavor, that was very tasty! I will go back just for this dish! The dumplings were so so… the wrap wasn’t so thick but the fillings were not very impressive. I would like to try different fillings next time if we go back. Let’s talk about the rice a bit here – Northeastern Chinese has very delicious rice and I am pretty sure that we can get similar ones in Boston. But for some reason, the rice they were serving wasn’t so good. It tasted like old rice for me… Maybe they can improve it soon! In general, we will go back and recommend it.

People, please trust me here when I tell you this food is gross. So not worth it. The delivery was timely but the driver didn’t have enough change for me. Umm really? Don’t waste your time and appetite on this really bad food.

One of the most authentic northeast-style Chinese food I get in the Boston area. If you are from that region of China or like that food style, I strongly recommend«Stewed Chicken with Mushroom» and«Sour cabbage with Chinese bacon». BTW, the food tastes better than it looks. ;-)

We stopped in for dinner at 6:30PM on a Thursday night. They were not busy, but a few asian parties were dining. The service was prompt and courteous. The pork with Chinese cabbage dumplings #20 were exceptional, served with a vinegar based dipping sauce. All other dishes we tried were good, but with some flaws. The Hot&Sour Wonton soup contained wontons, bok choy, tiny pieces of raw garlic, and no other solid contents. The wontons were very good, however the raw garlic contributed an intensity to the broth that I found unpleasant. Beef Chow Foon #129 was flavorful and contained tender beef, however the noodles were mushy and did not hold together. Overcooked, I think. Jin Gu Fish Filets #65 was served in a large bowl with tasty broth, fish filets(perhaps founder) and lots of broccoli florets. Although the broth was spicy and tasty it did not adhere well to the fish filets so they tasted a bit bland. Also, the fish was slightly overcooked and mushy. The broth and broccoli worked well together, as the florets were able to sponge up the broth and deliver a kick to the palette. I’ll go back and give it another shot. Perhaps the overly soft noodles and fish were an anomaly.

The right place to go if you appreciate Northeastern style Chinese food. The authentic food reminds me of the life back in China.

Best dumplings ever. Get the pork and cabbage dumplings, they are seriously the best dumplings in the Boston area. The rest of the items I order are consistently good as well. I usually order general tsos chicken, crab rangoons, rice, dumplings. Occasionally mix it up but everything is always good. Very convenient online ordering and delivery has also been consistently quick.

Looking for authentic Chinese fare, visited with a party of four on a Saturday night at 6:30PM. Not crowded but pretty well filled up an hour later with mostly ethnic Asian patrons. Definitely no frills as an eat-in experience, a little run down with well-worn menus in which we were happy to see Chinese-language descriptions along with the English. All good thus far! Lots of authentic choices(though most still geared to the boneless American preference) along with a section of standard Americanized stuff for business reasons, no doubt. We ordered Lamb with Scallion, Lion’s Head, Pork and Cabbage Dumplings, Beef with Mushrooms, and House Special Fried Rice(which had a little of everything in it, including shrimp). Everything tasted fresh, had good texture, and came with their own uniquely flavored sauces(as opposed to the mix & match meat & veg dishes in Americanized places). The dumplings were especially good, soft, and with a bright seasoning we couldn’t place. Prices were great, service was fast. We were pleased, took take-out menus, and ordered a whole fish and a Peking Pork and Vegetables dish to go, both also very good. Will return! No liquor license. Noticed the lunch specials hovered around $ 6.95 and will try those out, too, at some point.

My family lives right down the street so we come here relatively often. I was very surprised by all the negative reviews I found here, as we have never had a single complaint about the food or service. I will admit that, as Caucasian customers, we are sometimes overlooked in favor of the more regular Asian parties(with whom the hostess converses fluently in Chinese) but we have always viewed the number of Asian families there as a tribute to the restaurant’s authenticity and quality. Overall, the dishes are always served delicious, hot, and in decent portion sizes –no complaints here!

The family that runs this restaurant are from northeastern china close to where I am from. They make quite authentic northeastern Chinese dishes that offer a taste of home! They do have Americanized«non-authentic Chinese«dishes found typically in almost every Chinese restaurant in the country to cater to the customers not to used to regional Chinese cuisine. If you not not familiar with northeastern Chinese food but feel like adventurous, I would recommend choosing from the chef specialty menu– the single page not attached to the big menu.

Got delivery for the first time — 20 minutes, quite good! As usual the pork leek dumplings are delicious. The beef noodle soup, a regular for us is also tasty. Tried the seafood pan-fried noodles to assess how they do with other authentic Chinese food. The pan fried noodle came in a separate box as to retain the crispness — yum! The«seafood» was a reach — 3 pieces of scallops, a few chunks of real fish, a bunch of tiny shrimplets, much imitation crab, and lots of veggies. Tastes good but not a true $ 11.95 seafood dish. More like 3.5 stars

I had a really bad experience at the first time visit due to their crappy/non-fresh white rice, it’s really hard to find worse white rice than here, so stay away from it, get brown rice instead which is decent. Most of the courses on the menu are awful, even worse than American-style/Asian fusion style restaurant, so stay away from them too. However, there is a few courses here are definitely worth trying here, those are quite authentic Chinese northeastern style dishes, like pork back bone in soy sauce flavor(sorry for my crappy translation, I am doing the best I can).

Over the years, i have lowered my service expectations from chinese restaurants. Yet, the experience at this place compels me to write this review. Here are the highlights. A. Took atleast 45 minutes to get a take out order(1 dish). To put that in perspective, if i could see the future, i could have used that time to write this review. Twice! Fortunately for me, i was blessed with a charged phone and accidental literature tucked in my coat pocket. Unfortunately, the hunger induced headache was not very pleasant. B. I specifically asked if the Shrimp with Lobster is cooked with or without Pork. And she said, «no pork». Twice! Now i am not one of those vegetarians. I enjoy pork as much as my asian brothers! But i was craving the dish the way i enjoyed it at my grad school takeout place. And i was willing to sit through the wait for it. But nope. Its loaded with pork. More pork than Shrimp! Infact more pork than water in the dish. C’mon! I suppose this is my fault. I should learn to speak chinese before attempting verbal communication with the person who took the order. C. Finally, the selective pleasantness(you know who gets selected!) was just too obvious to ignore.
