Look, I just don’t like hotdogs, okay? Not everyone loves encased meats. However, sometimes one half of a married couple would eat them every meal if he had the chance, so sometimes the other half of a married couple will agree to go to a divey NJ hotdog joint so that he can satisfy his cravings. That being said, I cannot give a fair review of the encased meats at Windmill aside from the fact that they are not rippers and I know many folks love their rippers.(If you’re not familiar, this has nothing to do with tailwinds and everything to do with making hotdogs even more unhealthy: by frying them. There might be more to it than that, so don’t quote me.) So, when I agree to go along on a hotdog outing, I am looking for something else to eat. Sadly, most hotdog places don’t offer much in the way of salads or pastrami sandwiches or whatnot. A safe bet is usually to just be ridiculous and have chili cheese fries for my meal. Believe me, I’ve done this and not even regretted it too much. Jeff and I split that very thing at Windmill and I also got a chicken patty sandwich.(More on that in a second.) As for the chili cheese fries, they hit the spot perfectly. However! The few fries that I ate without any chili or cheese on them were pretty bland. So I recommend getting Windmill’s fries with stuff on ‘em. Now the chicken patty sandwich was perfection. I mean, as far as chicken patty sandwiches go it was perfection. It was piping hot and not at all greasy. The bun was squishy and not too big. It came with mayo and iceberg lettuce. Yum. The next time I agree to go on a hotdog run, I will vote for Windmill and get the exact same order again.

Ain’t nothing like a good greasy hamburger and over sized Chili Cheese Dogs at 3am after the bar scene.

Had their hot dog today for the first time. Granted it was at a festival rather than a store but they were very nice to me especially after I made a bunch of special requests too. I’m gluten free so I brought a hot dog roll and asked them to toast it on the grill. That helped hold the bread together(like the missing gluten) and added loads of flavor. I added mustard & sauerkraut, it was piping hot and by far the best hot dog I’ve had in years! Can’t wait to go to the Belmar store soon for another one.

Just eww. It’s basically like a Dairy Queen — much better options if you’re down the shore.

Great stop on way home from a day on the beach. Great dogs and fries. Large cold drink and it’s a great way to finish the day.

Big portions is all i can say. Basic burger/hot dog place. Hot dogs with the works runs you around 4 – 5 dollars but that thing is heavy. Would say at least try it once.

As they prepared my burger I saw this decrepit looking patty on the grill and thought, «good God that doesn’t look very good!» To my utter surprise the burger actually tasted pretty freaking good. Despite me judging the burger by its cover it was really good. Cooked well and juices oozed out as I took bites from it. Food is A+

I dont’t know know what the craze is. The burger meat tastes really weird. I mean it’s entirety too big for the bun and tastes like wood chips. The cheese fries are amazing though and the dudes who work there are pretty funny and cool. Skip the burgers, stick to hot dogs and fries.

Looking for a descent bite to eat, came up The Windmill Always heard allot about it always to many other places to be during the summer to stop. Looked at the menu, almost got one of them Hot dogs, but was not in mood. So ordered a Bacon Burger, Onion rings(One size offered) & bottle of water. I was asked if I wanted cheese on the burger, «Of course I said» not making much of it, than I asked if I want lettuce, tomato onions. I told him«just tomato & little mayo». That will be $ 13.95, OK paid for meal as I waited I looked at bill, I got charged above & beyond the Burger price on the menu for the cheese & tomato. I thinking to myself that is wrong & petty, but heard it was good so I hoped for a good meal. The Burger was nothing special a Basic frozen Thin burger & a nondescript bun, 2 small pieces of bacon, & onion rings well about 8 of them(not very big either). Well the burger was bland & was OK, the onion rings where OK also. The water is water. Bottom line, I felt this place is very over priced for a run of the mill(excuse pun) tasteless burger & the small order of onion rings. In today’s landscape I would have expected a better«homemade» style burger & some more onion rings. Too expensive for my taste for this meal. Probably should have had the hot dog but to nickle & dime for normal hamburger items puts a sour taste in my mouth.

Foot-long hotdogs in a regular bun. Good chili cheese dogs, fast service even when crowded. You can buy 2&5 lb packages of their dogs if you want to make them at home. A little pricey for 3 dogs and fries(about $ 20), but it’s right across from the beach.

The windmill is owned by seniors yet they could care less about them belmar has the most greed for money they don’t have senior day in the summer they said its to busy I say its Greed they could have it at times on a we’d when it’s slow they just want it all and belmar boils there hot dogs other stores in the area don’t and they make a bey year dog and they have senior day all year someday the people in belmar will be seniors then they won’t like it by the way belmars summer runs from June 1 su until October 10 I wonder why they have it at all. I think maybe that I said they may stop it altogether. I d rather travel to another location then give them the buisness even when they have senior day .maxs in long branch makes a better dog anyway they use shichpkhouse griddle dogs higher quality dog windmill uses sabrett contract dogs people you decide who has the better dog maxs doesent have senior day but there upfront and they want all the money

Have long heard the stories of the Might Windmill and finally got around to going. We were met with a decent dog, good snap, and a good bun overhang. Funny enough I found Windmill hot dogs are available at Maywood’s Marketplace. There they were Windmill hot dogs made by Sabrett.

Dog has excellent snap, griddle cooked, not too salty. Hot kraut! Wife enjoyed her Cali burger. Kids ate all the cheese fries. This is as good as a dog restaurant gets. The guy who gave this place one star is an a$$hat.

The windmill is one of NJ’s well-known places to get the giant, griddled hot dogs that really snap when you bite them. They have hot sauerkraut, as well as various cold relish condiments. A Windmill hot dog, fries, and a soda is definitely a Jersey shore classic. However, the prices are a little steep(Dog/Fries/Soda about ten bucks), so you may want to bring a friend to share. Charbroiled burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches are available, but the hot dogs are the star here. Some people swear by the cheese fries, but I need to draw the line somewhere.

Oh *heart* This was the first WindMill I had ever gone to when I was a kid. I think I was about 13 y/o before I ever realized that there was an original in Long Branch which is still by(IMO) the best and most charming. But I like this one for a few reasons: the space, more places to sit, more places to park and it’s in Belmar. I love Belmar for some strange reason. Anyhoo, if you read my other reviews on WindMill, you need cheese fries and hot dogs. OK if you are a vegetarian, get the veggie burger(still f’ing good), and I think they have deep fried mushrooms. If you are a vegan, run the Hell away. NOMNOMNOMNOMNOM. WindMill is nom-tastic. That is all.(PS It’s open late for drunken Snookis and Situations to inhabit. the people watching is worth its weight in gold)

We stopped in on the reference of a food lovin’ co-worker who grew up going to Belmar beach for the summers. It also just looks like a cool place for a dog and a soda. The dogs(adult size) are really big, and taste like meat and you can order with cheeze and/or chili on top. The fixins are great: ketchup, mustard, onion, hot(temp.) kraut, pickels, relish, peppers and pepper relish. I may have overloaded my dog but that is OK. The fries are crinkle cut. My daughter dropped half of her kid size dog on the floor and they gave her a new one for free, that is really nice! This is a great way to end the day at the beach before you hit the road home.
