After a couple of visits I’m confident that my initial experience was the norm. Below average sushi(fish, rice, few options) and a very dingy interior. When a sushi place is this dark inside and the food is sub par, I find myself hoping it is cleaner than I think. I recommend to find sushi elsewhere.

Sushi wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t notable in any way. Quite bland, and the fish wasn’t very tasteful. Décor was nice, service was good. Just average or below average sushi. Too much rice in their rolls and nigiri, not enough product. Miso soup: too salty

Decent food but the service was crap! We came on a Friday night and were the 2nd family seated. There was ONE server for a restaurant that filled up fast. As in most sushi restaurants you order a few rounds of dishes– well that was a MISTAKE! It took 10 minutes to flag a server down(a 2nd one finally showed up) to order another round of food and drinks. We ordered, ok it was busy… There are only 7 tables in the whole restaurant. 30 minutes ticked by without even our drinks. We asked about our food– and 5 minutes later they had no answer. 10 minutes after that we finally were told one of our rolls were next up… We asked for our check-a 3rd time… We won’t be back. Which is too bad… There are too many other sushi options in this town to waste time again here

The best, most affordable sushi ever! The crunchy dragon roll is AMAZING, I also highly recommend the caterpillar roll. Great atmosphere, amazing prices and excellent quality.

This is one of my favorite places to eat sushi in bellingham. Alot of the menu items served here closely resemble the menu items served in japan in terms of no crazy over-the-top flavors. Just japanese style food with japanese sensibilities in mind. This is something I have realized since traveling to japan dozens of times this past couple of years. Anyway, I took a star away since during the mealtime rush, you will be waiting awhile.

If you taste the rice you will know. If a sushi place cannot do rice right. I’m sorry but, you have to learn before you serve.

Sushi was good and inexpensive. The rolls, for the most part, come with six pieces, but aren’t really loaded up with things the way that I’m used to. Most of the rolls had fish, cucumber, avocado, and sauce, and were pretty light. Prepare to order at least 3 rolls if you’re hungry! They do have some more expensive rolls that looked more filling, like the rainbow and caterpillar rolls. Miso soup was delicious but kind of small, definitely could have had more. The miso was brought out almost immediately, and the sushi was ready before we’d even finished! Quick service. Total for three rolls, miso soup, and tip was about $ 16. Have cash if you’re just coming in for a quick roll or two, they won’t take card for meals under $ 10! Also, they close pretty early on Saturday nights. Overall, good sushi. Will definitely be back!

Went here for dinner and was pretty good. Sushi is a bit small but not very expensive. Service was not bad. Checks under $ 10 must be paid with cash, FYI. Good place for cheap sushi!

Good food, horrible service. I feel sad for the waiters, as I think the owner screws them on tips and training… The food keeps me coming back though.

Best sushi in town, and amongst the most affordable. I grew up eating my family’s sushi, and this is the closest I’ve run into to recreating that. I have no idea where all the reviews went, I submitted one when thy first opened years ago and there were plenty more after that.

We came here excited by the prices, but decided not to come back because of the quality. The food itself is quite cheap, which is a definite boost in a town where downtown food costs can verge on the ridiculous. So that’s why we came: we were in the mood for cheap sushi. We are sushi people, some of our favorite food is sushi so we noticed immediately that this restaurant was low quality. First: limited menu with few specials. Essentially they have about the same things as you can pick up in Fred Meyer. Second: the quality was very poor. The rolls were smaller than many places we have been. The rice was dry and just fell apart when you tried to pick up a piece with chop sticks. The fish was tasteless and other ingredients didn’t seem fresh or were in too small of quantities. The waitress was not very attentive and did not have a friendly attitude. But I think it was because she was aware the food was bad and didn’t like working there. It was quiet in the restaurant which was a plus, but the background music was all modern hip-hop mixed with 70s glam rock. It seemed they didn’t try with the atmosphere of the establishment. We were also seated at a strange long table with a divider that scrunched us up against the wall. I can’t recommend this sushi restaurant to anyone. Bellingham is not known for great sushi, but this may very well be the worst we have been at here.

If you’re wondering why the service isn’t what you would normally expect out of a wait staff it’s because the owner takes all tips! Which means everyone is inexperienced when hired and soon learn what a waste of energy they’re spending on customers when they’ll get nothing out of giving good service. I avoid coming here because of this. It just kills my mood even before stepping inside know how this business runs when the food is otherwise somewhat good.

Terrible music, pathetic rolls, and miso soup that will kill you of a salt overdose. 2 stars for the service — I know many others commented it’s not so great. I must have hit it at the right time or day because our server was attentive and speedy — and price. The food and ambiance are not good but at least it was $ 18 for 4 rolls and a bowl of miso soup(careful, it’s salty enough to burn your mouth).

Keep trying this place about once a year. I love sushi and work a block away. Once again the service was horrible. Asked for extra ginger twice… never came, empty water glass, etc. Fish wasn’t fresh… salmon nigiri. And the avocado in the avocado roll was brown and black. Yuck. Also, the portion sizes are ridiculously small. Best Sushi in Whatcom County is actually out in Lynden on Bender.

This sushi is really good for the price. Their best rolls are around $ 5, which I’m a fan of! My only complaint is the service. It’s pretty slow, and the waiters almost always seem like serving is an inconvenience to them. I’ve never been in there and felt like the staff was welcoming. Sushi is good, service could definitely be better.

I hate giving bad reviews, but I can’t in good conscience review Wasabee any higher than one star. I’ll preface this by saying, I used to love Wasabee. The sushi was affordable and pretty dang good. I came with my Japanese classmates, and my Japanese teacher; my friends and I would come with our friends from Japan, and I had friends who worked at this establishment. And there-in lies the problem. Friends told me discreetly that the owner of Wasabee would keep the tips. And to make up for it, employees were paid above minimum wage. I can’t support a business that does that. As a server myself, I know what a difference tips make. It’s a shame, because their food is actually pretty decent. But there are definitely better sushi establishments in the Bellingham area. Who knows, maybe the owner has changed policy, but I’m not too curious to find out.

I loved the atmosphere of this place! It’s so calm and relaxing. A friend and I went to this place after an exhausting day, and it was the perfect place. I have had better sushi before, but for the price, it is excellent! We each got a couple of sushi rolls and a side of edamame(which was delicious!), and of course, complimentary green tea. What people have said about the service is true. Even though they were friendly and very helpful when I questioned them about MSG, they were VERY slow. It took us a solid 15 minutes to get our check after we were finished. If you are in a hurry, this is NOT the place to go. We didn’t have to worry about parking since we walked, but I can see how that could be a problem for people who drive there. Still, this would be a very neat place for a low-key(and not too expensive) date, or a place to gather with friends. I might actually go back and bring a book. Might as well put their slow pokiness to work:)

Still a fan. Lined up on a recent Saturday evening at 5:25. Students at WWU and their parents came down to grab a bit on a Saturday night. Once again, the food is some of best sushi in town. We had shrimp cakes as an appetizer. Tasty and more traditional — reminded me of dim sum. Served very hot but good flavor once edible. We had some of the more traditional sushi menu items, simple rolls and pieces of sushi. How great is it to have good chilled tuna with sushi rice and good dose of wasabi between?! WasaBee knows how to do it right. The rolls we ordered were also excellent. The dragon roll was particularly good, tempura shrimp is a great contrast in a sushi roll. I’ll keep coming back. WasaBee is the real deal, don’t miss it.

I popped in here for a late lunch 30 minutes before closing on a Tuesday afternoon along with another woman who had the same idea as me. The waitress welcomed us both with a smile and seated us anyway. The simple menu was a short quick read of several different sushi rolls. Order two or more varieties and receive Miso soup too. I indulged in the Spicy Tuna Roll as well as the Alaskan Roll with sockeye salmon so that I could get the Miso soup too. What I wasn’t expecting, was six of each roll. It would have been great for sharing with someone, but as a single patron, I would have preferred it if the restaurant could provide two or three rolls of each variety. The rolls were nicely done, but I would have liked a bit more spicy sauce on my tuna roll. This is a ‘Pepsi’ establishment, so I opted for water. The restaurant décor was done in dark and light wood. Square, white lanterns hung over the thick wooden tables providing more ambience than real lighting. The picture windows were covered by sheer cloth blinds to block out the afternoon sun and heat. There were intricately carved wooden dividers that sectioned off large tables so that multiple small parties could share a table without having to share conversation. There were only a few people in the restaurant when I went, so the section dividers did not come into play. It was a pleasant experience, one worth repeating.
