Went here for takeout a while ago. Had the Three Aces roll, which was spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail and spicy tuna. Not too bad. It may have been something that I would seek out again, but it appears that they have closed up shop.

Edit on 2÷16÷13 — Wanted to clarify a «Closed» review I just saw. This is very weird but starting at least several weeks ago they had a message posted in the front of the place saying there was something going on with the kitchen, and only bar food was available, apologies, etc. Today I went back and looked — there were three copies of the notice on the front, saying the kitchen was closed for renovations, still said something about bar food being available. Dunno, it didn’t look CLOSED closed, like I think everything is still there inside, but can’t understand how it would be operating if the kitchen has been closed a month or 2. Health Dept violations? It’s a shame, I really liked the place…

There are eight or nine restaurants crammed into the 495⁄126 shopping district, and this is the nicest one, by far. I’ve been here twice, both times it was at an odd hour, about 4, and both times the place was empty. The service was prompt and efficient enough, but the waiter seemed to be annoyed that we were there, not friendly at all. That’s the only reason I did not give five stars, because the sushi was excellent. I’m not the big sushi expert, my son is, and we let him do the ordering. We had a wide variety and everything was wonderful, we all agreed. The prices are reasonable and the décor is fabulous. If the waiter had been smiling instead of scowling I would have given five stars. If you’re having trouble finding it, it’s in the same building as the Barnes and Noble, first establishment on the left.

Grabbed takeout this evening. While the portion sizes of the Maki combo were amazing, the quality just wasn’t. Rolls were poorly made and lopsided, and the fish wasn’t very fresh. It wasn’t awful sushi, just felt lackluster after viewing the perception of high class that the restaurant shows off. Sidenote, they had a sign up that said the kitchen was closed do to renovations. Something to look into before going over for dinner.

Most of the previous reviewers have apparently never had amazing sushi. After reading the reviews, I was expecting something to rival the sushi I’ve had in various cities, but the sushi at Tenchi was anything but amazing. I suppose I should have known better than to eat sushi from a restaurant wedged between a Walmart and a Market Basket. I went with a friend at 7PM on a Saturday — prime dinner time. However, the place was empty and service was slow. We weren’t in any rush, so I can excuse the slow service. The restaurant itself is modern and it had a nice ambiance, and it was pretty typical décor that you’d find in a Boston or NY sushi place. But the décor and ambiance is pretty much the only positive thing about Tenchi. The menu prices are moderate for the area(or so my friend said), which was a nice change from paying $ 12 a roll. There are plenty of sushi and sashimi options, including house specialties and standard rolls. My friend and I shared the Eel & Avocado Roll, Idaho Roll, Volcano Roll, Three Aces Roll and some Tamago and Unagi. First, the sweet potato in the Idaho Roll wasn’t fully cooked. I’ve never had a sweet potato roll with half-cooked potato, so I’m almost positive this wasn’t intentional. Minus points for that. No one wants to eat raw potato in their sushi. Second, the rolls were poorly made since they kept falling apart as soon as we picked them up. Third, the fish was definitely not fresh. You know that mealy, sticky, somewhat slimy texture fish gets after it’s been sitting out too long? That was what was in a majority of the sushi. It’s little surprise that my stomach was upset very soon after we left. I rarely have a reason to visit Bellingham anymore, but if I go back, I definitely won’t be coming back to Tenchi. An upset stomach and poorly made sushi isn’t worth the trip.

Just had lunch here. You can’t beat the lunch 3 roll and salad deal for $ 11! The food was fresh and extremely tasty. It was slow since it was 2pm on a thurs, so I can’t comment on the service really. They were«fine». I gave it 4 stars and not 5 because the free appatiser offered for a Unilocal«check in» wasn’t honored. They said that was a temporary deal and expired but they don’t know how to turn it off on Unilocal!!!Uh. Okay if you say so. I found that annoying. Otherwise y u m m y! Go there you’ll like it. Just don’t check in ;)

I woke up this morning with a hankering to eat gold. But not just gold, I wanted gold with raw fish. Thank god for Tenchi. Ordered the Everest Roll which has Salmon, Yellowtail and Tuna and topped with spicy king rab, avocado, caviar and… GOLDLEAF. Damn tasy and very friendly service.

I went for lunch with coworkers and we ordered 12 different sushi rolls ranging from the Spicy Tuna Rolls to the Shrimp Tempura Rolls. Everything was fresh and tasty. The salad with the ginger dressing was refreshing. The interior is trendy and the sushi bar is illuminated with changing colors. It was a bit chilly inside but it is winter afterall. Service was a bit slow but given that there was only one waitress for the entire restaurant she was very attentive and quick take care of us. The price was very reasonable. The lunch menu give you 3 rolls for $ 11 dollars. How can you beat that!

Went to Techni on a Thursday at 7. Not crowded, service was excellent, whole staff friendly, ambience interesting, cool and inviting. We were 2 and had miso soup, pork dumplings, tuna tataki, Technie house roll, spicy tuna rolls, striped bass /salmon /ikura salmon roe(custom selected) sashimi, saki and sauv blanc. I’ve had sushi all over, this was right up there. Not too shabby for Bellingham! Wow. And price was very reasonable. If you like sushi you should not be disappointed.

I was hesitant to try this place out, seeing as how it’s bookended by Market Basket and WalMart, but I’m really glad I gave it a chance. Very trendy inside, this place makes you feel like you’re in the city somewhere. The only thing that makes it obvious you’re not is that it was empty last Sunday night. We ordered a chef’s special for two. It was delicious, super fresh and came with a super-secret roll that was the chef’s discretion. The miso soup was really yummy, as were both types of gyoza. I will definitely return, I can’t believe this gem is just ten minutes from my apartment!

Tenchi Sushi — just ok. + Nice sleek modern interior + Enoki mushrooms in the Miso Soup(fancy-shmancy + yummy) — Tenchi, just say«No,» to electronic funk music!(this is your brain… This is your brain on electronic, funk, beat music… any questions?) memba that? — Food and Sushi are just ok — Miso Soup has an off & salty taste — They price Nigiri Sushi per piece — I like to buy em in pairs Not a bad spot, I’m not h8’n just not a 4 or 5 star Sushi joint for me. Me, my belly and my pocketbook, would rather go to Wanokura. That said, if you’re in your a girl and your date’s paying for dinner, or if your in your early 20’s and want modern sleek ambiance with the electronic beats blasting in the background, this is your place!

This place is a real hidden treasure. My boyfriend and I have been eating dinner here again and again since it opened. You could never predict from the outside, with it’s cheesey light-up sign of a fish that looks like it’s trying to eat itself, that the interior would look so modern and sophisticated. There’s always some funky, new-age ambiance music that keeps my boyfriend’s head bobbing, and the lighting is rather romantic at night. With most of the entrees, you get a choice of a nice, big bowl of very tasty miso soup, or a salad with mixed greens and a FABULOUS dressing that I wish I could buy at a store. I like both of these items so much that I sometimes get both, although this causes me to be VERY full at the end of the meal(and I like to save room for dessert…) I’ve become quite fond of the maki combo, which features california rolls, tuna rolls, and shrimp tempura rolls. All of these are fabulous. Most maki combos I see at Japanese restaurants include spicy tuna instead of regular tuna, and I’m not a spicy lady myself(well, my TASTES aren’t spicy). There’s a separate spicy maki combo if you like it hot. Since the place came under new management, there’s been a couple of new additions to the menu. One is a beverage called Calpico. My boyfriend used to love this when we were in Japan, but the last 2 times he tried to order it, the waitress said, «we don’t have that.» Not with the meaning of «we’re out of stock right now,» but«we do not carry it.» Totally bizarre. Why put it on the menu if you don’t carry it(yet?) The chefs and front desk people are very friendly, and the waitstaff is too for the most part, but they all seem to have some major troubles with English, so when you try to ask questions they look confused and tend to supply insufficient or confusing answers. If you sign up for their mailing list, you can get a new coupon practically every month. I just got an email saying that they are offering a VIP card, so I’ll definitely ask about that next time I go. Weird story about the mailings: not long ago, I got an email from Tenchi saying that the restaurant was being taken over by some«cruel» business partners who gained control by dishonesty and other unsavory means. The prior owners apologized for this. Soon after, I got another email in extremely broken English from what must have been the«cruel business partners» apologizing and saying that Tenchi wouldn’t change and they loved all us customers. I haven’t noticed any changes in the place since this takeover, except for some small additions to the menu. We’ll see if the drama continues…

After they came and gave out samples at my company’s travel and leisure fair, I couldn’t wait to go try their other offerings! I stopped in today with a couple of coworkers for lunch. Upon checking in on my Droid Unilocal app, I was informed that I would receive a free appetizer! Hooray! I showed it to our server and he seemed confused, but he quickly found someone who knew about it and confirmed that we could select a free app. Score! We got the shrimp dumplings, which were very tasty, especially with the sauce that came with them! I ordered the tuna suchi lunch combo, but they came back with the mixed sushi lunch instead. I corrected them telling I wanted the tuna sushi lunch, and they brought it back to fix it. When our server brought it back out, he informed me that they were temporarily out of tuna(really?) and therefore they had given me a free upgrade to big eye fatty tuna, which is a much more expensive cut. It was good… definitely more flavorful, but I wasn’t crazy about how chewy it was. They also gave me California rolls, while I was expecting tuna rolls. I’m generally not crazy about California rolls but these were good. I really would have preferred the regular tuna sashimi and tuna maki, though. I decided not to deduct too many points from them for that though, since they were apologetic and accommodating and gave me the free upgrade. The quality of all the sushi was very good, and the prices can’t be beat. My lunch combo came with 5 pieces of sashimi and 8 rolls for $ 11. My coworkers each ordered 2 types of maki rolls for $ 10. I’ll definitely return! I just hope they have regular tuna next time!

Still no license for booze. but I’m told it’s on its way! Picked up take-out yesterday after a trip to WalMart, I got the kid’s portion of Chicken Teriyaki. It was more than enough for me, a good 6 oz. of sliced chicken breast, yummy sweet & salty teriyaki reduction with pea pods and broccoli, and a decent size side of sticky rice with sesame seeds… All for $ 8.50. Woo Hoo! Cheap date! =)

Finally a GOOD sushi place in this area! I know my sushi… I have had the best of the best from my trip to Japan, and all along the west coast from Vancouver down to California. This place is the best in this area… trust me, i’ve done the leg work… My husband and I had the following and they were all delicious! Sweet Shrimp Spicy Tuna Raw Oysters Rainbow Roll Jalapeño Yellowtail Spicy Yellowtail Toro Salmon The only downfall is that they dont have their liquor license yet and that they dont have free refills on fountain drinks.

Woah, my first 5 star rating! OK… first off… there’s parking galore! LOL, sounds silly, but it turns me off if there isn’t enough parking. I mean, who wants to circle around the place 5 times before actually finding a parking spot.(Def not me). Anyways, since it’s in this shopping center right next to a Walmart & I think Market Basket, there’s plenty of space for everyone :-D. Now since this is a new restaurant, the décor is very modern. You come into the restaurant, you feel as if you’re walking into a chic art gallery with tables all around. LOLz. The lighting could use some work since I think the light fixtures are a bit tacky, but it’s ok, I could deal with it. They’re cute in their own way. Food is always delicious! No joke, every time my boyfriend and I go there, we come out very happy. We always sit at the bar and watch the chef. You could tell the chef is very experienced and is definitely good at what he does. The fish is always super fresh! Price is very reasonable and the menu is like a novel so you definitely will find something that you will like. Unfortunately, it’s been maybe 3 weeks, maybe more that they’ve been open and unfortunately, they haven’t received their liquor license. It;s a disappointment, but I don’t always need a drink with sushi. I could wait. LOL. Hopefully they get it soon though! I’m very satisfied with the service. The girls there are very sweet and attentive. We had sparkling water as our drink, and every time our glass were almost empty, they would take the bottle from our table and fill our glasses. Definitely a new experience, but it was nice. I didn’t mind at all… Place is amazing. Definitely NYC material. If you;re in the area, check the place out… you won’t be disappointed. This place is definitely a gem in the town.

My wife and I had lunch at Tenchi Sushi today. Once you walk into the restaurant you forget that you are in the Market Basket /WalMart plaza. It is like you are in a large metropolitan city. Nicely decorated and playing a soothing jazz music. The waiter was very nice and attentive. We ordered off the Sushi lunch special menu. Our Miso soup(Very Good) and salad came right out. It seemed like our lunch was taking a little long as the place was not that busy and they had 3 Sushi chefs behind the counter. Then to our surprise we are given a Spanish Mackerel appetizer. We would of never ordered that ourselves and it tasted very nice. Right after that our sushi plates came out. Everything tasted very fresh. It is nice to see that we can get good grade sushi that is close to home. We will be back.

This is another high-class restaurant that this area is so sorely lacking, a very welcome addition! Yintea and his friends moved here from NYC to open this very modern, great ambiance restaurant. Standard sushi bar and about 10 tables, cozy lighting and I love the modern jazzy music in the background. Sushi is very good with some unique approaches(I ate my first square maki«roll» here) and the chef serves the tuna salad in a very tasty sauce. Very attentive, fast and friendly service. Soba noodles were great, too. Highly recommended if you don’t want to drive into or near Boston all the time. The restaurant is in the Walmart shopping center, right next to Barnes&Noble on I495, exit 18. Great place to go after movies or shopping at Whole Foods across the street.
