This apartment is on an apartment-laden street in Bellflower. This means that street parking is almost impossible after 7PM. This also means long lines at the traffic light during morning rush hour. This also means a high population density with lots of sidewalk traffic. But compared to the rest of the apartments on this street, La Paloma is one of the nicer, more quiet ones. Building Aesthetics — The property, although old like the rest of them, is in pretty good shape. It’s well maintained in terms of cleanliness. Most have updated flooring now(laminate vs carpet). Paint is also fresh. Landscape is a bit tropical and well maintained. Parking is an open lot facing the street, prior to entering the building, with assigned parking spaces. Neighbors — I have very nice neighbors. It’s probably around a 80% Latino community with a good mix of others. Mostly families with children ranging from infant to mid-teens. A few young adults in their 20’s-30’s. It’s a relatively quiet and peaceful community. Amenities — Laundry on-site which eats up your quarters quite often. So you’d have to call the manager, or simply shake the darn thing to activate it(so the coins can go towards the back of the collector — which was explained to us by a neighbor). Management — It’s easy to get a hold of management. An assistant manager lives on premises and the manager lives in an apartment down the block. Unfortunately, most of the work that was done for our plumbing problem is simply clean-up. I believe, logically, that there’s a bigger problem here than just a clogged drain, because the toilet, bathtub, and kitchen sink get clogged at the same time, and actually expel lots of water. Our floors and carpet were damaged from water.(I posted photos here) The carpet was not replaced and it smells like mildew/mold when you walk-in. Maintenance simply vacuumed the water out — that’s it. I’m hoping we don’t get sick. This happened 3 – 4 times the past 2 – 3 months now. Other comments: AC not allowed because of issue with humidity — to prevent mold/mildew. You pay for your electricity, which is not bad. Sprinklers turn on at 10:30PM which leaves the walk way really soaked and slippery. We almost slipped a few times. Overall a good place to live. You just have to deal with the things I mentioned. I think those living upstairs don’t have the same plumbing problem as those downstairs do.
