At this place the customer is never right… i tried to buy 2 chairs that were marked for $ 10… Before i hot to the pay counter a lady said i couldn’t buy them cause the price was wrong. is that my fault??. Well apparently per the vice president of retail Dave McKechnie before i buy them they can change the price on them… He did offer to give me a discount on any other items even the chair bit couldn’t honer the $ 10 price tag that they put on… very sorry to hear that… last time i go there… will let friends and family know … I really liked this store and would go there at least once a week… sad customer service

This week, I participated in a Habitat for Humanity LA build as a part of my employer’s volunteer group effort. See: The onsite crew were great, albeit a bit lacking in project organization since we could only work up to the point at which they ran out of supplies or couldn’t locate the tools needed. Not afraid or unfamiliar with hand tools, I teamed up with a co-worker and alongside the homeowner earning her sweat equity, we installed hold downs in the walls of her newly framed home. We were given a tour of one of the completed homes before the orientation meeting and during the day, we also met with the marketing manager who gave a great talk about what Habitat is up to in Los Angeles County area. I recognize it can’t be easy repairing or building homes with mostly volunteer work, so I applaud any efforts to improve the living conditions of hard working, deserving people that need it. Yeah, @HabitatLA !

I personally appreciate what Habitat is doing. I volunteered with them for the first time, and think that they are doing a great service to our communities.

I volunteered with them during college and found later of the minuscule amount of houses they have actually built over the last 5 years, let alone since their inception. Most of the funds to build these houses only serve to pay the people who run this organization. There are TONS of abandoned houses and houses that have fallen into disrepair that need only to be fixed and sold to a family in need. The cost would be far less than to build, what I believed, to be a shoddy construction. For one thing, on a lot that would normally be for one house, we were to build two, 2-story homes on the single lot. There was a nonexistent yard and the resale value for a house with that little square footage just seems impracticable when there are so many houses available across LA that simply need rehabbing.

Habitat for Humanity is a great cause– our organization in college partnered with them, and helping to build houses for deserving families was such a rewarding experience. Where else do you get to play in the dirt and do good, all at once?
