Community Kindness Resale Shoppe

Do not judge a book by its cover. This building is huge and looks a little rough on the outside, but inside it is packed with fun bargains. The lady behind the counter was quick to greet us and offered to hold our bags for us so we could browse the shop. The racks were nicely placed around the shop. It was designed with clothes, housewares, furniture, kids items, etc… When we were checking out the lady behind the counter told us that our purchase would be benefitting 18 different non profits, wow shopping and giving back all in the same place.

I accidentally broke a mug, being the clumsy person I am and the manager wouldn’t let me pay for it. They’re so kind and give back to the community!

I grew up in the area, but no longer live in Southern Illinois. So, when I’m home for the holidays (or otherwise), I like to hit as many thrift stores as possible. Vintage and consignment shops in Boston are great. But for bargain treasures, there’s no place like home.
Belleville has many thrift/​resale shops and Community Kindness is among the best. Because every visit is unpredictable, I will gush over my recently purchased finds:
–Three pairs of leather 80s heels. (Two suede, in black and blue. One not, embellished with gold elephants. GOLD ELEPHANTS.)
–A whole bunch of doilies. (Some handmade, some not. A friend is getting married this summer and needs them for ambiance. Oh, some lace, too.
–Hanging plant-​holder made of shells. (I used to live in Florida. I love shells.)
–Vintage brass buttons. (Ideal for capes.)
If I lived nearby, I would certainly be a regular. The staff of volunteers are so friendly and the amount of goods they stock is somewhat overwhelming. There’s an entire room dedicated to furniture and frames. Another room for records and books.
I might go back for colorful crocheted blankets.
