I wouldn’t even give this place one star. We always go there and whenever we choose to dine in instead of the hibachi we have always gotten the bean sprouts with our meal. Today we had a guy waiter who took our order and said we could get the bean sprouts on the side without charge. When we got our hibachi chicken we didn’t get the bean sprouts and when we told our waitress she said that it would be an up charge. We told her we always get it without charge but she went and asked someone and came back with the same response. She said she was new and didn’t know. My cousin ordered scallops and they never brought it out, we had to ask her what the status was on it. Worst experience today. I suggest you train your staff better.

If you’re in a rush, don’t come for the hibachi. The chef took forever to get around to our table. He wasn’t super entertaining either or talkative. As far as the food goes, the fried rice tastes delicious. Other than that though, the sushi rolls are way better than the hibachi. The portions for both are huge, so you’ll definitely leave feeling full and fed with takeout boxes in hand!

I had a great time here while I was on a work trip in the area. I came here alone and sat at the sushi bar with my book. My waitress was a peach as well as the sushi chefs. The edamame was very good as well as the fried rice. The California rolls were the best I have ever had and I ended up ordering more! Service was quick and very pleasant. I was here when I found out I had won the bid on a house I offered so I will have fond memories of this place.

This is a lunch favorite of mine as I’ve worked near it over the last 2 ½ years. Their lunch specials are well priced and you get a lot of food. I’ve done the hibachi and normal seating numerous times and you can get the same no matter where you sit. The staff is quick and very courteous. The food is delicious and for the most part it’s pretty quick. I’d highly recommend this for lunch, dinner or a special occasion. I LOVE their fried rice and I always get the lunch combo where you can pick two meats. Always chicken and shrimp for me. :)

While this review is for one particular restaurant, the same can be said for pretty much all of these hibachi places. I just don’t see the attraction, other than for kids. Once you get past the floor show(seen one, seen ‘em all), what you’re served is a cheap meal for an inflated price. Our last visit was to celebrate a child’s birthday, which is the only reason why we’d ever patronize it. They begin with a mini(and I do mean mini) shrimp appetizer(nothing special), followed by a bowl of «onion soup»(essentially a flavorless broth with a couple of mushroom slices floating around). Next comes a small salad comprised of virtually 100% iceberg lettuce. The main course, portioned out by the chef, consists of a skimpy serving of your primary ingredient choice(chicken, shrimp, steak, etc.), a few vegetables(bean sprouts, zucchini and onion) and a bowl of steamed rice(it’s about $ 3 additional for the same size of fried rice). I expect considerably more for a $ 50 dinner tab. We actually left hungry. Perhaps their more traditional dining will fare better with us … we might give it a try one day. But with so many incredible restaurants in this city, this is the last place I’d go for a substantial meal at a fair price.

My husband and I ate here last night and we really liked it. Our waitress, Kelly, was really nice and was very knowledgeable about the drink and the food menus. The prices for their happy hour items are awesome, but the portions are a bit small. My guess is because it’s for happy hour! That’s okay because I’m not someone who likes huge portions anyway. I had a cajun roll and a tiger eye roll, both of which were delicious. My husband also had a cajun roll as well as a jalapeño roll and a spicy tuna roll. I had a bite of his spicy tuna roll, and wow(!) was it spicy! I also had their chocolate lava cake for dessert which was good, but not outstanding. We will probably return to try the hibachi! My only complaints are that they are a bit slow to bring the food out, and they seem to be under pressure to turn over tables quickly — even though the restaurant was not that busy. The bus guy constantly circles the dining area waiting to clear off plates, etc, and our waitress brought our check after dessert without asking us if we wanted anything else. I would suggest giving the bus guy some additional job duties and don’t be so hot to turn over the tables when there is no one in the front waiting to be seated.

Our visit to this restaurant was disappointing, to say the least. I went there for the sushi and my husband for the habachi. The sushi looked and tasted mediocre. They pack the sushi roll with rice and next to nothing fish. I’ll upload the picture. I ate my 2 rice rolls anyway, but afterwards was still hungry… so my husband shared his plate with me. BIGMISTAKE! Within the hour, both my husband and I were SICK!!! Never again! I’ve had better sushi at the grocery store… seriously.

Came here to celebrate my friend birthday. Service was attentive and friendly. Hibachi is standard; during lunch and since my table wasn’t full, chef performance wasn’t mind blowing or that entertaining. But i only care about the food lol. Sushi was yummy and worth the value. Friend’s steak cooked perfectly. Enjoyed it and will come back for more.

It was my first time here after reading so many good reviews and reccommendations from Unilocal.I came with my family to celebrate my mom’s birthday around dinner time. The hostess was very nice(even said happy birthday to my mom) and although it was busy at the Hibachi area we were sat almost immediately. Our server came by to take our drink order a few minutes after we sat down(we joined a half-filled Hibachi table). We ordered after the people at our table because we had came later than they did. We didn’t take that much longer to order, but the server had already brought out the salads for everyone before we put in our orders. So for about five minutes we just sat there watching people eat, which I will tell you is not a great experience. I used to work at a Habachi restaurant so I understand how busy it can get and how overwhelming it can feel so serve so many people at once, but the Hibachi chef didn’t once crack a smile. He did the original tricks like onion volcano and fire on the grill, but I would’ve appreciated a friendly demeanor more. My mom was satisfied but I did not enjoy the atmosphere. I think our server smiled once. Sushi was ok; my tuna roll was unraveling on the plate before I even touched it. The hibachi shrimp was a bit overcooked. Service was slow. Our server brought our cake out but we had to wait five minutes for her to come back to ask for plates and spoons. Maybe it is better to come when it isn’t busy.

A friend and I went here for my birthday dinner, Friday night, busy enough place, staff were friendly but not hugely attentive, and definitely tried to rush us in to making a decision about our food selections. I loved the food, I had teriyaki steak, and it was delicious, egg fried rice, veggies — and I LOVE the addition of beansprouts! The food was quick, hot and delicious. It’s a lovely place, easy to get to, and there seemed to be ample parking in spite of it being so busy. They were also very accommodating when the barbershop quartet my friend ordered, appeared table side to sing at me!

I spent my birthday here and all the staff were very accommodating. They even have the samurai props to dress you up! The interior is dimly lit and restaurant itself is split in half with dining and hibachi area. I can’t speak about hibachi experience as we didn’t sit there. I had a chirashi bowl which was very well presented. It had a good variety of fish and easily filled up my empty stomach. I didn’t like their miso soup too much because it was very sweet. The nabeyaki udon was so so and I would have appreciated it more if they didn’t soak the shrimp tempura in the soup. The rolls which we ordered were surprising little but after rereading the menu, I noticed that they have listed out the number of pieces so I should have probably taken that into consideration. Overall, Samurai is a very good place for casual dining and the wait staff were diligent and professional.

FAIL! I literally just walked out after 40 mins of no service. We sat in two different areas of the restaurant just to see if anyone would ever greet us or bring us a cup of water. Well, we sat in the hibachi room and had no service for 15 minutes and there was no chef. The grill was not clean either. Old rice and gristle still on it from the day before. The sushi chef saw us sitting at the bar and mumbled something to us, but that was it. The fishing he was cutting up looked paper thin and the rolls were tiny for the cost. I had time to notice all of this because I had nothing else to do, but wait. So did the other five tables who got there the same time we did. By the time we left, those other tables had no drinks either. Wish I could have eaten some of the food there. Just an ice cube would have been nice. Please get some management there or your place will be extinct just like the Samurai.

Very good! We will definitely be back! We went on a Friday night at 7pm and they had a 20 minute wait, which isn’t too bad. We ordered to 15 piece Sashimi, the Brittany Roll and an order of Uni since it was fresh in today. And everything was delicious. Their Sashimi were nice thick cuts! Everything tasted fresh. My personal highlight was the Super White Tuna Sashimi. It was new to me and it tasted sweet and was so soft and fresh. Yummy, I can’t wait to have some again.

I have been craving Hibachi lately. I don’t know if it was the onion volcano, or the onion choo-choo train, but I definitely couldn’t get Hibachi out of my mind. That is how we wound up at Samurai. Upon walking it we were told it would be a few minutes so we sat down to wait. After about fifteen minutes I went to the bar to get a drink. I ordered one of their drinks off of the menu. It was either a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned. The menu had it made with Maker’s Mark, but I asked them to switch it to Canadian Club. I received my drink and handed the bartender a $ 20. She said she had to go get change. I then watched her run around the restaurant for about 5 minutes. At this point my table was ready so I told her to bring my change to my table if she ever got change. About 10 minutes later she brought my change. My drink was $ 15, as this included a $ 3 up-charge for the Canadian Club. I thought that was a bit excessive. For my dinner I ordered the Splash and Meadow. It consisted of a shrimp appetizer, onion soup, salad, vegetables, fried rice, steak, and shrimp. It was a ton of food, and it was very tasty. It was fun to watch the chef work. The carpet could have used a vacuuming. Our dishes and drinks were not bussed with any regularity, and they piled up. The service could definitely use some work. The food was good, despite the overpriced drinks and confusing service. If you are craving Hibachi as I was, you might want to check this place out.

Great food, great service, great experience. I had the hibachi Surf and Turf($ 26). It’s 7oz Filet Mignon and scallops. Large portion. The steak was very tender and had great flavor and the scallops were rather large. First time and will definitely be back again soon!

Very delicious sushi. The miso soup was not good. Do not pay extra for that. I had never had a bad miso soup until I had it from here. The rolls and the other sushi were good. They have people come and just refill water. That is a plus for me because I drink a ton of water. The restaurant is dim, made my pictures of the food dark. I hate when it is dark because I want to know what they are hiding. I hope they weren’t trying to set the mood… I was there with a friend.

Go somewhere else. Wait is terrible. We haven’t even sat down yet, so I have no idea what the food is like. We had a reservation for 7:30. 45 minutes later, we still are waiting for our table. The only reason I am still waiting is because this is for my sister’s birthday party. If I had choice I would just leave. Hope the food is good cause the wait is terrible. Update: they finally seated us at 8:15. Then, it took another 15 minutes for the waiter to arrive. Another 15 minutes for him to bring us our ice tea and water. At this point, we had been in the restaurant for an hour and a half, and all we had was ice tea. My kids were tired and falling asleep. Everyone was hungry and getting angry. It was a nightmare. The hibachi chef finally came around 9:15. Almost 2 hours after we were supposed to eat. At this point, we still only had ice tea and water. The hibachi chef was cool, but at that point we were really too tired to really enjoy it, finally eating a solid two hours after our reservation. Don’t go here. There are so many restaurants in Houston. Pick a different one.

I was kinda in a funk and some friends coaxed me out for dinner. This place is on the west side so a bit of s drive for me. It is in a decent strip center with plenty of parking. They do sushi and hibachi. We went for the hibachi. I always like a good hibachi show but our chef was pretty boring. Didn’t interact with the table. Did all the standard stuff like the onion volcano but it was all pretty mechanized. I ordered the surf and turf which is steak and scallops. My friends had the teriyaki and the scallops. The chef messed up my order and gave me the teriyaki as well. Oh well. The food was all flavorful and reasonably priced. The service was ok. They did adjust my bill for the mix up. On the plus side, I had a jack and diet(ya know I gotta watch my girlish figure!) and they make it nice and strong. Overall a pretty decent place for a casual dinner out. Stay sexy fellow Unilocalers!

Samurai is a great neighborhood joint frequented by my parents. There is a sushi dining area and bar, and a teppanyaki room. The past few times we have ended up at the sushi bar. My mom is tight with the chefs and always gets hook-ups for good cuts of fish. We had pots of hot tea refilled and shared among us. We dined there a few nights ago and had a very tasty meal. Though out of favorites saba and uni, I was able to try a variety of different sushi and dishes. The menu is very innovative, and I am interested in trying more(there are some cool sashimi appetizers and hints of yuzu in there!) — this time I had whole scallop, salmon belly, and hamachi belly sushi, a salmon skin handroll, amaebi with fried head, and the kona kanpachi(hot stone pot with rice, egg, sweet soy, yellowtail, bonito flakes kind of like a dish I had at Uchi in Austin and Yonaka in Vegas, like a «dolsot whedubop»)…and I tasted some of Eric R.‘s endo roll which had kumquats on it! The fish is very fresh and we always enjoy the meal here. It is a nice place to have nearby and it is always packed. Itadakimasu!
