The worst bbq I have experienced! The brisket was so dry and the bbq sauce was difficult to digest. Food God please bless my stomach as I continue my day. The worst foodie day of my life. 12:30pm 9÷11÷15 The desserts were burnt!

Since I moved to Houston, I have been trying to find a really good BBQ restaurant. I keep trying different places and I end up with something good, but not amazing. Sadly, I thought this place was kinda the same as the others I tried. The sauce is ok and the toppings on the baked potato are sparse. Also the atmosphere reminded me of a Boy Scout or Girl Scout camp kitchen. It was completely sparse with a few plastic tables. It looked like a cafeteria basically.

I worked a quarter mile from this restaurant for 16 years, driving past it every morning and afternoon. None of my coworkers ever suggested eating here. I finally decided to go on my own. I should have known better. The brisket sandwich tasted like roast. The sauce, which it needed to make it somewhat BBQ, was more like gravy. The restaurant atmosphere(hot) and furniture(old vinyl) didn’t make things any better. Being a native Texan who has eaten their share of BBQ, I can’t remember ever walking away from a plate. I did walk away from this one.

Just keep driving. it’s not worth the stop. 3 meat combo was more like a kids meal for $ 11.35. cheese fries were just shredded cheese that was placed in the microwave. The BBQ sauce was watery and there was no flavor in it at all.

Nice old school BBQ restaurant. Love the owner mario great guy to speak with. One of the few places to order excellent brisket. But the flagship dish in my opinion is the baked potato with all the fixings.

I love the smell of smoke every time I drive by, but like all of the BBQ joints around Bellaire, it’s not that good. The brisket is dry. Jalapeño sausage is decent but not very flavorful. The cole slaw is fresh, the green beans canned. I wish the food tasted as good as the smoke as you drive by…

Good stuff but bring own barbecue sauce. Plus watch out for the tray rail in need of repair. But the food is way better than the bbq place down the street!

Brisket is a bit dry but has an amazing after taste. Ask to get the ends of the brisket. The sauce is a great mustard/vinegar flavor that I usually don’t like but love at this place. Tastes good with wheat thins. I was critical at first but then craved it later.

Possibly the worst BBQ. Why? Brisket sitting under heat lamp was dried out when it reached my plate. The sauce was very uninspiring as well as the greasy French fries. I was drawn in by the aroma however I’m leaving very dssatisfied

When they were owned by the Greek family many years ago, they had the best French fries in the world. Now they not as greasy(probably more healthy) but are still good. In memory of their former Greek owners, they still serve gyros. The food is good and the portions are large. They have very good cole slaw which is a necessity for me. The potato salad and baked potatoes are also great. I love the old-school décor but have a little problem with the blaring Fox News commentary on the television in the front dining room. I sit in the large back dining room.

One of my favorite go to BBQ places in Houston. There are other places with better brisket or ribs, etc. .but their BBQ potato with a mix of brisket and jalapeño sausage on top, fully loaded, with BBQ sauce on the top… man its tough to beat. Adam Richman from Man vs Food would have a problem eating the whole thing in one sitting, so you will have leftovers for later, but it is awesome. I’ve been coming here a long time and have eaten at alot of good BBQ places since first coming here, and if you find a better BBQ baked potato, message me and let me know where.

I’ve been coming here all my life, and I will keep coming till I die. Great brisket, great ribs, and without a doubt my favorite bbq sauce in the world, along with a friendly staff, make this place a great place to eat over and over again.

I was driving down Rice Ave and could not help smelling the smoke from this place. I was hungry and happened to be craving BBQ at that exact moment so I thought I’d give it a go. The portions were humongous! I got the ribs and brisket plate. The side selection is limited, but they do give you quite a bit. The ribs were 4⁄5 — very well cooked, moist, tender and smokey — loved them! The brisket was a different story — tough and dry… I feel like I could make better brisket — I’d give it 2⁄5. As some other reviewers have pointed out, the sauce was definitely a winner. I have to admit that I’m the type of person who seems to like sauces on the sweeter side, but I found this sauce very good even though it wasn’t sweet at all. If I come by again, I’ll just stick with the ribs.

Our office ordered a large order for our staff of 18. Order accuracy was top notch. Food quality was nothing fantastic . Lacked freshness and overall flavor. Rudy’s BBQ has spoiled me

I’m from New England and I went to Hickory Pit BBQ to experience Texan BBQ, but it was a pretty big let-down. I had their ribs with a side of fries. The ribs were not tender, probably because they had been sitting for hours, and the homemade BBQ sauce was nothing to write home about. The fries were quick and tasty, but the ribs were what I came for and I was left disappointed, especially because I paid close to $ 15 for the meal.

We live down the street so I pop in time to time. Personally, my favorite BBQ is my dad’s, but this is a favorable second. The gentleman/owner recognizes me so he is quite sociable and nice to me. The meat has always been enjoyable to me, but maybe I always hit the right days. You can’t go wrong with a stuffed potato and the Western poboy is also quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, they had a fired a couple of years ago so the last time I was there a couple of amenities were missing: mainly the soda fountain. Honestly, I’m not picky with food so I maybe I like it cause it’s good homey BBQ and the gentlemen makes me feel welcomed.

My husband picked up bbq for 20 yesterday. I haven’t stepped foot in the place in 20 years, so I can’t comment on décor/crowd/etc, but this is what I do know: The brisket was fork tender and juicy, plenty of good fat, but there was also lean pieces. The sauce was one of the best I’ve ever had. I don’t like sweet, and there was nothing sweet about it, just very tasty, with vinegar and pepper undertones, on the slightly thick side, so it hangs onto your meat a little better. The pinto beans were a little creamy and had a nice tang to them, I suspect they put a dash of the sauce in them. Now the potato salad is my absolute favorite in town. Mostly potato, a dash of mustard and mayo with a little celery and pimento for color. We also had smoked turkey breast and sausage which were fine, but to me the brisket was the star of the show. It all came nicely packaged with the usual pickles onions an d jalapenos, along with a loaf of white and a loaf of wheat bread. All extremely reasonable, like $ 6 a person. They’ve definitely got my business for life!

Friday lunch:(not many customers at 1pm) — Combo Po-boy(jalapeño sausage & sliced beef) was OK and plentiful; I prefer moister and more smoke flavor though; sausage is not as spicy as it sounds; bbq sauce is not thick and not very tasty, but helps moisten the dry meat — fries were excellent; not from frozen, and perfectly cooked and not greasy — cole slaw was on the good but not great side; it has a watery mayo that I asked to drain off as much as possible, which worked out well(I don’t like mayo-based cole slaw) — pico de gallo was excellent… better than most Mex restaurants Décor is old from many past owners. However, there are some great historical photos of Houston and Bellaire on the wall from a pro photographer trying to sell them

UGH! Save your money and stomach and go up the road a bit to Charlie’s. I ordered brisket and sausage on a bun. Not only was it overpriced, the place is a dump and the food is not good at all. Brisket was dry and sausage average. The bun they gave me was rock-hard stale. How hard is it to keep some fresh buns in stock? I feel like crap now. Off to take some Alka Selzer, pop some Advil and take a nap…
