Food is edible but really bland. I would never come back here. Service isn’t bad. Just wish the food had more flavor

This is your typical dated so-so Mexican restaurant in a strip mall. The service is pretty good, the food is good, the atmosphere is ok. It’s just not as good as other local options in every way.

This is a darn good buffet. Sad it took 5 weeks to discover the place. As soon as we went to get seated it was obvious what was to be had. The water taste horrible, which is a bad chaser for such good food. Prompt service and friendly staff. Will return for sure.

Love their chimichangas! Fresh fruit margaritas are great too!

This is my default Belfair restaurant. It’s decent Mexican food, the staff is friendly and the service is good. The drinks are a little weak for the price but everything else is good.

We stopped at El Sombrero on the way back from a day trip to Bainbridge Island. We had never eaten here and in fact this whole development of shops was new to us. What a nice surprise. The service was very attentive, it seemed they could not do enough for us… No problem feeling ignored like we have been at other eateries. The menu seemed to have a good selection. I had the Gringo combination plate and my wife the Enchilada a la Crema which we both loved. We could not finish and had to ask for take home containers. The plates were very hot and nothing tasted as tho it had been warmed up or sitting around for long. They earned a generous tip and we plan on eating here again the next time we are in the area. My wife, who is more up on these things, said she thought it was authentic mexican food.

Affordable Mexican God in Belair. We stopped our daughter at Camp Lyle McLeod and stopped for s late lunch. Carne Asada with roasted jalapenos on the side was just didn’t for my husband. I enjoyed the seafood chimichanga. The kids meal is $ 3.99. Good deal.

hubby and i *absolutely love* this place. very warm and friendly(and attentive!) service every time we have been there… fresh food, great prices. this is our staple«go to place» every time we are out in this area. their buffet for $ 10 which includes soft drinks is just such an awesome deal, people! and the fact that it also takes place on sundays just brings the awesomeness up a level since deals like this at Mex. restaurants are generally are only on Mon-Fri for 2 hours a day at lunch. :) I LOVE El Sombrero! Oh and their tequila sunrises are pretty dang good also…

Excellent and friendly service. Very good food. I like that I can call in my order and easily go and pick it up. They accept major credit cards — Visa, Mastercard — I can’t remember if they accept others. I had a FANTASTIC piña colada! I like the atmosphere. I rate this 4.5 stars.

Very subpar Mexican/American food, bland, everything tastes the same. I have gone multiple times, and always left feeling slightly disappointed. It tastes like any other local Mexican restaurant, nothing stands out. Friendly staff, the cook is incredibly nice, even comes out to say hi. The«taco bar» is definitely a great bang for your buck, and if your interested in leaving feeling like a glutted bloated pig, then it is definitely the place for you. Also, it is close to Safeway, so you can use their Wi-Fi if you need while you eat.

I so wanted to give El Sombrero 4 stars, but I just couldn’t do it. My family and I enjoyed our dinner there, and I would certainly go back. It was A-OK. My wife said it was the best Mexican food she’s had since we moved to the Kitsap peninsula a year ago. The prices for the margaritas and kids meals were excellent, too. I think my wife’s margarita was like $ 5 and it was HUGE. I had a trio of enchiladas so I could try their mole sauce. The mole was a little wattery, but tasted okay. The food was pretty good. The chips were light and crispy and the salsa was excellent — thick, flavorful, and with some kick. Above average for chips and salsa for most Mexican restaurants around the peninsula. Just like every other place in Kitsap, they serve Pepsi products(bleh). The service was meh. Prompt and polite, but they all looked like they hated their life. No enthusiasm whatsoever. Dead-pan monotone tone of voice and facial expression. Like I said, it was A-OK. Pretty good food for good prices with lackluster service.

We were passing through Belfair at lunch time. It’s not a big place with a lot of choices so we tried El Sombrero. We were VERY pleasantly surprised at how great the food was. My wife had a chicken and spinach dish which was delicious and not the usual Mexican fare. The service was attentive and friendly even though the restaurant was quite busy. Next time we are in Belfair, we will make it a point to stop in for a meal!

Woohoo! As good as it gets! … yeah, that about sums it up. Of all the restaurants nearby, this is the one my family frequents most. Jose and the staff are all great. I have three young kids, and a picky wife that are always satisfied when we eat here. The décor is nice, the people are great and the food is excellent.

My husband and I eat at El Sombrero at least once a month. We always get fast service and fantastic food. Try the asada burrito. Mmmmm.

one of the best Mexican restaurants i have been to in a long time, the lunch buffet is cheap and the food is AMAZING! everything on the menu is off the hook, and the cheese-cake-bites for dessert… really its not a bad choice just to get 10 orders of those and fill up on them because they are to die for… The service is good, and the food is outstanding

Don’t hate it, don’t love it. As Kristi F. reviewed below, it is definitely American style Mexican… and very family oriented. The dishes are okay — I had chicken fajitas which were average. We’ve had lots of opportunities to go back and haven’t even thought to go there, but I wouldn’t shy away from it either if someone suggested it. When we did go, it was around 8:30pm on a Friday night… it was SO quiet in there I felt like we needed to whisper. Not empty, just so QUIET. After several margaritas(now THOSE were good!) we were without a doubt the loudest people in there!

Although the food wasn’t fantastic, the chips and homemade salsa were pretty good. This place is typical American style Mexican, but it was refreshing to find something decent to eat on our road trip back to Seattle from the Pennisula that wasn’t fast food, chain restaurants, or diners. The portions are pretty large and the main dishes a bit expensive for my liking($ 10 for a burrito, 13 for a combo) so I would reccomend sharing with a buddy.

I ate here with my mom & my son last week. They call their lunch buffet a taco bar, but it’s really much more. $ 7.99 includes pop and dessert — homemade flan & rice pudding, plus some interesting cookies. I’m on a diet, and was able to fashion a delicious salad from their bowl of iceberg, shredded chicken, tomatoes, a few olives, and sour cream mixed with salsa. They also have a variety of burritos & such, conveniently portioned small for the full buffet experience. I wasn’t lovin’ on the chile rellenos, a particular favorite of mine. But all in all, our food and time were great.
