Book dams and eagles The Quabbin Visitor Center was started in 1984 and is located on the first floor of the administrative building at the end of Winsor Dam at Quabbin Reservoir. Some fantastic views of the reservoir can be seen at any time of the year. The center has various classes and lectures and serves as an interpretive center and historical resource for information about the four towns that were destroyed while making the huge reservoir. There is always a staff member around that will answer questions about the environment and geological history of the area, the different types of wildlife and of course about the actual building of the dams and reservoir. There will even tell you where the best hiking trails are and where and when to see a bald eagle. There are lots of different stuffed critters to check out that were found already deceased in the area and a very cool little book area where you can buy books and some trinkets. A wonderful little place to check out while you are exploring the reservoir, dams and area. Nice that someone is keeping the history and past of the disincorporated towns still alive.
