I really love Clapp Memorial Library– it’s a bit smaller than most of the other city libraries, but definitely not lacking! Since I work in Belchertown, I sometimes stop in here when I arrive early or have a few hours to burn before clocking in. The first experience with Clapp Memorial came about as a result of their book sale, which I believe they host twice a year in the basement/downstairs. I bought probably $ 50 worth of books, including classics, antique children’s book sets, and Goosebumps books from my teen years. Since then, I’ve come to Clapp Memorial a couple of times to use their internet(usually there is at least one computer free) and to check out a couple of books. They even had a book that I’ve been looking for, since I realized my Springfield library didn’t have! Internet usage is limited to 1 hour. As the other reviewer mentions, there are a few study/library tables to read at, but no other seating options. Additionally, I’m a little disappointed that the upstairs is cordoned off for staff only. I’d love to see them expand their selection and reopen it! On another note, there are two bathrooms, one on the main floor near the elevator/rear entrance, and the other downstairs just below it. Both are clean and well-stocked. My only complaint is that it seems like about 50% of the time I stop by, they are closed! Especially since it’s summer, their hours are really strange. I wish MA libraries had longer/more normal hours.

I like the inside, mostly because it has high ceilings and nice woodwork. Reminds me of decades gone by… Also they have 4 computers, an extensive collection of movies, and a big kids section! I hate that there isn’t really a place to sit in a book and read, but there are two study tables. All the chairs are wooden with the exception of one. It’s also very cold in here in the winter. Idk what summer is like.
