Usually they have good guacamole, but very bland this time. Had to wait forever at this un-busy time for a soda re-fill.

This review is for Churchville and Bel Air. I love La Tolteca! It’s the best. Everything I’ve ever ordered is great. It’s not Americanized fake Mexican food. It’s the real deal. The cheese dip is a must! The place is clean and the staff friendly. It gets crowded on the weekends so be prepared to wait.(I think the Bel Air location is a little more crowded and smaller, so Churchville may be a better option.)

Guac is on point as is the bean dip. Tues-thurs Blue Moons and Coronas $ 1.75 unbeatable price plus half price Apps! Stick with the chicken and steak dishes. The guapo burrito with chicken, queso and chorizo is very good. steer away from the ground beef. Service and atmosphere pleasant.

La Tolteca is very similar to El Salto in Parkville… in all the good ways! It is a highly affordable and delicious option for your Mexican cuisine needs. Please keep in mind neither restaurant serves black beans for some reason. Go figure on that one. I elected to get the chicken fajitas, which is usually a sound option. This place definitely doesn’t disappoint. The chicken was thoroughly cooked and well-seasoned. Everything was of the caliber you’d expect from a great Mexican restaurant. Also noteworthy: the chips and salsa are great here. The salsa is moderately spicy and the chips are just like you’d expect from any legit Mexican restaurant. You won’t be disappointed. The guacamole prep is quite a presentation. They have a guy on staff whose sole purpose is to wheel his cart over and enhance your dining experience with his slice and dice prowess. Needless to say, it is great and rivals the great guacamole from National Harbor.

Place is ultra clean. The waiter who helped us was very attentive and fast. I’ve never been somewhere and the food came that fast. Also our drinks were always kept filled. Love the Mexican authenticity. And large menu. Food was ultra good. Lastly. When we were leaving. We seen their pepper garden. THEYGROWTHEIROWNPEPPERS. A+++++++++

Love the table-side prepared Guacamole. Really good, fresh, and made to order(we wanted it a bit spicier). Had the street tacos. Good, not great. My daughter had steak fajitas. Well-seasoned, very tasty! Portion sizes were generous. Complimentary chips were warm and fresh. Service lacked. Wasn’t checked on even once. We weren’t asked if we wanted a drink refill until we were clearly done with our meal. I am pretty sure this was an isolated case, as I saw other servers very attentive to their guests. I’d come back, but will check other places first.

This is another one of my favorite local restaurants that we frequent often. Place is clean, the service is good, and the food is always fresh. Love love love their guacamole dip and chips. We eat so much if it we’re full when dinner arrives. The food portions aren’t that big Unless your getting cheesy stuff which takes up an entire plate. :) I really like going there it’s affordable for family of 4. And close

Hungry on that side of town, so I put a to go order in… Only ordered a chimichunga(chicken) & enchiladas(chicken) I should’ve checked it… I get home a I have a cheese quesadilla and a bean burrito… So I call and explain & they said what do you want us to do?(how about fixing it) so I drive back up there(15minutes) I get there and they were so unorganized… The hostess opens up my food and said what’s wrong with it, «it’s not what I ordered», he walks around with it, and said I didn’t take your order so I can’t do anything… 15 more minutes pass by and they come back with a receipt… They realize it was their mistake and fixed it(20 minutes later) I’m so mad by now, I’m ready to go off… I can’t go back it’s bad enough the person @ the front desk gave me a hard time about the food I paid for and they messed up but I’ve been to A REALAUTHENTICMEXICANRESTAURANT before and they don’t put mixed vegetables in their rice… Wth…

I lived in southern California and have traveled to Mexico, so I’ve had authentic Mexican food. This is not it. This place is an overpriced Taco Bell.

My college aged daughter took me to La Tolteca in Bel Air last night for dinner; she is not a fan of Mexican food and she LOVES this place. I love it too. The service was the fastest I have ever experienced in a sit down restaurant that was FULLOFPEOPLE. We were seated quickly, had our drinks within 5 minutes and our food was on our table within 15 minutes of ordering. The chips come with salsa and a delicious creamy dip that was a delightful change from just the standard«chips & salsa». We started with queso and while it was not as thick as I’ve had other places, it was delicious. The portions are huge and I couldn’t finish my burrito. There is a huge selection of dishes and I was able to ‘customize’ my burrito(no bell peppers) as well as have black beans instead of refried beans. These are the best black beans I’ve ever had. I know that if I offer to pay for dinner, my college student will be all too happy to accompany me for lunch or dinner again.

I definitely prefer this location above all others. I feel like it’s cleaner and the employees seem to make the service run more smoothly. The food is pretty standard and predictable, but I’m ok with that. There’s something great about consistency. The guacamole is probably some of the best I’ve had though. They make it fresh and right in front of you. The frozen strawberry margarita hit the spot too, but I guess I’m just a lush ;) Ultimately, if you’re coming to a Tex Mex place in Churchville for some authenticity or some wow-factor…well…you might want to keep your expectations in check. It’s good for what it is!

The best service around. Always attentive to your needs. The staff works together to ensure your meal is pleasant. All the good is always hot and fresh. The guacamole is something you should try, it’s amazing. Somba is the waiter that brings us back every week.

In the suburban wasteland of chains restaurants that is Hazard County La Tolteca was a pleasant surprise, I didn’t get to try any of their drinks but the food was good old fashioned cheap Mexican and the portions were very generous. Table side guac was pretty good too though I’ve had better, still you can’t beat the price. Service was OK, nothing special.

This is a really good Mexican place. The menu is pretty much the standard Mexican place menu, which is exactly what I wanted. Chips were warm, salsa was spicy, the queso was good. The best part? Tableside guacamole! That’s pretty unusual at a casual Mexican place like this. I normally only see it at higher-end places. But yes, we got a huge bowl of freshly-made guac at the table. Entrees were good as well — the standard Mexican fare.

We had lived near here for a while but never tried it because it looked sketchy from the outside. On recommendation from a few co workers we tried it and it’s excellent! Definitely get the tableside guacamole. I had the fajitas and they were delicious. Service was attentive, prices reasonable.

Below average for Mexican places. Gets overrated since it started in the bel air area and was the only really local Mexican restaurant. The food(especially the ground beef) is not anywhere near grade A. Once ordered a chicken taco and the bones were in the taco. Yes bones plural. The ground beef tastes like dog food and the chips taste like they are made once in the morning than stale by lunch time.

I think this is like my fifth review of a La Tolteca location. Suffice to say, I am a fan! This location is in an old fast food joint, so there are some funny quirks. The bar only has four seats, to start! The entrance to the kitchen is also right by the bar, so it’s awkward/impossible to stand close by to get a drink while watiing for your table on a weekend. They also didn’t take out the take out window, which made me double take. We stopped by on a Saturday night and had about a half hour wait. Reasonable considering the place is not super huge, but there is literally no comfortable place to stand around and wait. As soon as we were sat, the guacamole cart guy came right up! Which was awesome because after a long day of moving, this table was starving! The guac chef was very friendly and very fast. Service all around was very nice and fast. Our server was always around when we needed her, and never rushed us at all when we weren’t ready to order and were lingering over last bites. Which was super nice when you also think that the place is packed and I’m sure they want to fit in as many tables as possible. Food was overall very good. My mom and her bf raved about their dishes in between big bites. They ordered an enchilada sampler, and one of those«everything combo» plates with one of pretty much every Mexican item you can imagine. I was a little more adventurous and ordered the chile verde, a dish I’ve never tried before. Big pieces of pork simmered in a «spicy» green chile sauce with rice and beans. The rice and beans were great, but the pork was insanely fatty. I had to remove nearly half of every piece before eating. The sauce was good, but not spicy at all. Overall, the prices are a steal considering the service and mostly very good food. If I were a local, I would definitely go back!
