The Fall Foliage Festival is held the first two full weekends in October for the past forty five years. Over four hundred vendors from all over move in to Bedford to display their arts, crafts, food and wares to over seventy thousand visitors. Musicians serenade you as you browse and munch. Take some kind of a large pull tote or like I do a small child’s wagon. Trust me, even though you have no intent on doing too much buying, you do! Kids can have their face painted, ride ponies or be part of a reenactment. Beautiful decorations for any holiday, handcrafted furniture, ceramics, kitchenware, quilts, afghans, pottery and just about anything else you can think of at an arts and crafts fair is available. The food is outstanding and can all be washed down with the freshly made apple cider that they press right before your eyes. The food ranges from fresh cut fries, pierogies, stuffed cabbage rolls, kettle corn, crab cakes, hot sausage sandwiches, to hot soups, chili, pizza, barbecued chicken or beef, hot dogs with kraut or chili and burgers. Plan on spending hours here and have your good walking shoes on. Parking in an available lot or on the street is hard to find, but open large lots with shuttles are available on the outskirts of town. If you need to spend the night, plan on making your hotel reservations months in advance, many book the year before! This Festival brings a lot of revenue to the town of Bedford, which is right off the Pennsylvania turnpike. It’s great fun and it has something for kids of all ages.
