Dr. Scheffel is no longer at Westgate Dr. We went to see him in Beaverton but he is highly recommended. Before we even started to be his patient officially, my husband had a life-threatening situation and I would say Dr. Scheffel had saved his life and saved our family! My husband had a long term severe gum disease and being stubborn, he finally got a life-threatening infection coming back from his business trip. His face was swollen up all the way to his ear on one side. I called Dr. Scheffel’s office explained the situation, telling them that we were NOT his patient but we need to see a dentist. With the situation, Dr. Scheffel knew how serious this is and he told us to go in, added to be his last patient of the day. He explained clearly what the situation was and what will be the short term and long term plan for my husband. My husband must have extraction to drain the infection immediately as it was serious. The only thing my husband can think was work and it took more than 45 mins to convince him. After extraction, we went home to rest but that evening, my husband passed out and I called 911. His blood pressure was very low. After seeing the ER, we were told that it could be the infection that he was fighting that cause the fainting. I can only pray and thank God that Dr. Scheffel was willing to see him and took care of him that day. From other experiences in his dental office, I also learned that Dr. Scheffel provided a lot of services with no charge simply because he insists on doing the right thing. We don’t find doctor with integrity anymore. Most doctors are only interest in how much they can make from you.

My daughter recently switched to this dentist upon a recommendation. She was scheduled for a cleaning. Went in for cleaning. The dental hygienist Linda, who cleaned her teeth took it upon herself(instead of speaking with Dr. Sheffel!) to inform my daughter that she needed a surgical procedure! That she was above 50% sure that my daughter needed this procedure! We thought only the dentist himself would diagnose a patient… not the the hygienist! That was a first & a shock. She’s not the dentist! Hello! Upon questioning Dr. Sheffel about this situation, he was extremely unreceptive and very defensive. Not a good sign. Very unpleasant experience. We will be getting 2nd opinion & not coming back. Would like a diagnosis from the dentist, not the dental hygienist!

There are two good things I will say about Dr Scheffel’s office: The dental hygienists at his office are AMAZING — so sweet and kind and helpful. He is also amazing with needles — you don’t feel a thing when he gives you Novocain. Other than that, my experiences there have been rather scary. Once, he shot me full of Novocain and then proceeded to leave me in the chair alone for two hours. When he came back, I was completely unnumb and he had to do another round of shots. A few years later, when he said I had cavities, I asked him some questions about why I would be getting them and how I could change my behavior — when he wouldn’t respond, I asked for another reference and he refused. When I went to another dentist, he was surprised that a dentist had said I had cavities and it turned out that I didn’t need to get them filled. Sketchy!
