Like any other beauty school, it can be a gamble. For me the main risk is the person showing up, or not. Assuming the person you made an appt. with does come in come in, I have always had good experiences here. I usually get a partial highlights and the price is awesome. The instructor is there to guide the student and I have no horror story of their work. I’d give them five stars if the students didn’t reek of cigarettes at times.

This review is only for the haircut. I’m a guy and just wanted to find a cheap place to get a haircut. Since this place is only $ 5 for guys haircut I decided to pull the trigger and give it a go. So what happens is that you walk into the building and talk to receptionist that you want to have your hair cut if a student is available you get to have your hair cut. Before you cut your hair you are required to sign a waiver that a student is cutting your hair and not a professional yet. Once that is out of the way your student hair dresser if available will cut your hair. My hair dresser was still halfway into her school and so she was still learning stuff. She was super nice and funny though so it was cool to have her cut my hair. There will be a teacher around all the time to make sure that the student learns how to do the correct hair cut, so don’t worry to much because in the end you end up with a pretty good haircut for the price. You have to be patient because like I said these hairdressers are still students and still learning all the best techniques that work well for them. So you get a cheap haircut and also get to help a student learn how to cut hair. It benefits everyone really unless you are not a patient person lol. Overall I really liked the place and might go again sometime in the future when I feel like a need a cut again. This place is right next to 24 hour fitness and a bunch of dining area for lunch.

Worst experience. They bleached my nieces hair and it started to fall out in her hands. They then proceeded to do a protein treatment to try and retain whatever hair they could. The gal cut her hair and didn’t even know how to hold the scissors. At the end of the appt with a loss of over 4 inches of length, no highlights, and in tears, they charged her for the appointment. When we called back to speak with a manager her response was, «it’s a school, what did you expect and yeah her hair got a little mushy so we cut it.»

My daughter went in to get her hair and nails done for prom. After spending $ 30, she came out with nails that were rough on the edges and polish that was smeared, marks on top, and polish on the cuticles and under the nails. She said that the gal doing her nails had two other students sitting with her that sat and gossiped the entire time and she felt extremely uncomfortable listening to their conversation. In the end, she had to come home, take off all of the polish and redo her nails. She mentioned that no one checked on the student’s work. What a waste of money!

FIVESTARS for Northwest College School of Beauty! One star for each dollar that my haircut cost me, as in $ 5. I figured that, at last, I’d try this place I saw across Watson Ave. from 24 Hour Fitness in Beaverton. Not only that, I could also eat at Nonna Emilia’s lunch buffet, which is nearby, at the border of Beaverton and Aloha. Everything ran like clockwork, from making the appointment, to being seated on time, to having a good listener cut my hair(I’m not hard to please), and to being satisfied with the haircut. Keep in mind that those cutting your hair are students. However, a teacher will drop by at least one or two times, to give the student stylist the green light and/or to offer a minor suggestion for fine tuning the haircut. Sure, the cost in gas from the East Side offsets the savings, but, every once in a while, it is doable and an excuse to eat lunch somewhere on the West Side. Also, if you’re a rider of the rails, there’s a MAX stop about a block away and the joint MAX /WES station is within easy walking distance. If you are a West Sider and your hair styling needs and expectations are not ridiculous, then be sure to give Northwest College School of Beauty a try!

Amazing! I had my hair cut and highlighted here today and I love what they did. I went in knowing I was getting at least 5 inches or more taken off(I went from past my shoulders to a pixie style cut) but I was unsure of how I wanted it colored. The instructor suggested that my base color was too pretty to cover over(Yes, I enjoyed the flattery since I am over 40 and constantly on the lookout for the gray hairs) and to just go with highlights. She was right and my stylist did a fantastic job in the highlights and the cut. Everyone was very friendly and made myself and my female family members very comfortable. I know the hair cut was 5.00 but not sure how much the highlighting was as someone else paid as a belated birthday gift for me. I know, in total, it was around 60.00(not including tips) for a hair cut, highlights, and the 2 pedicures my family had. That’s not too bad for a day at the salon for 3 ladies. I’ll definitely be back though this is not in my home area. It’s worth it for the service and the prices!

Scheduled an appointment to have daughter’s hair washed and flat-ironed, and was assured«Giselle» could do the job. Showed up for a Saturday morning appointment with two kids in tow, filled out paperwork, and was told the stylist would come to the lobby. 30 minutes later, no stylist. After tamping down my irritation, I stepped to the desk to inquire, and was advised that«Giselle» no longer worked there. And there was apparently no other stylist available or skilled at working with my daughter’s coiled hair. If you have black hair, or value professionalism, or don’t enjoy wasting time, stay away. You have been warned.

I had my haircut there recently for the first time. I went on a Saturday morning and they were very busy. I was getting more than just a trim, so I asked for a more experienced student. I was given a girl who said she is scheduled to graduate next month. She was very pleasant and professional, and I was very pleased with my haircut and the overall experience. The best part was the cut cost $ 5, and I gave the stylist a $ 5 tip. I also asked if they got to keep all of their tips(I have read reviews elsewhere of other schools in the area that say they have to split their tips with the instructors). I was told that the students do get to keep 100% of their tips, so it is certainly appreciated. I would definitely give them another shot in the future and recommend giving this school a try to anyone looking for an inexpensive cut and isn’t afraid to take a chance and help a student practice.
