So when we first walked into Maharaja, I was a little worried we had made the wrong decision. So many huge, chain restaurants in Dayton that I know and love, but we’re eating at an Indian buffet in a strip mall?! And the interior looked like a typical hole-in-the-wall Chinese buffet that I’ve been used to in the past, so similar to Chinese I guess I was expecting rubbery meats and bland sauces. Boy was I surprised when I filled my plate with food and ended up loving every single bite! Being new to Indian cuisine, I was a little hesitant since no dish on the buffet was, well, pretty. It all looked brown and soupy and full of vegetable bits that I wasn’t expecting. But the spices… the fresh, all-white chicken breast and tender lamb chunks… the perfectly cooked vegetables hidden throughout most dishes… the chewy, delicious naan bread… sooooo good! The chicken tikka masala blew my mind and I am now addicted to the stuff. The staff wasn’t overly friendly at first, but once we explained that we were new to Indian food and were excited to try some new things they perked up and helped us out by explaining each dish on the buffet. A super inexpensive buffet, but unlike cheap Chinese and American buffets you are actually getting quality meat and veggies on Maharaja’s. Delicious and I can’t wait to go back soon!

Soft almost mushy cold nan. Pour flavoring, seems like they are afraid of using authentic spice. Bland meal.

Food is very tasty. Prices are very reasonable. Lamb Vindaloo was on par with the best I’ve had. And I love my garlic nan, which they also did well.

New to the area and happened upon this place and decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. My wife had the Curry Chicken and I had the Tikka Chicken, both were great. We will definitely eat here again. Stay away from the chains and give this place a try.

Visiting from the DC area and we were happy to find this place as an alternative to many of the chain restaurants in the area. Service was courteous and the food was good. We ordered an assortment of lamb and chicken dishes and all were good. The vegetable biryani was a huge portion but just ok. Garlic naan was good and fresh. Would visit again.

I eat cuisines all over the states, and this was by far one of the best Indian cuisines I have had! The staff was great, and food was delicious. The atmosphere is very calming, and the restaurant meticulously clean. 5⁄5! Go Visit!

We came by here because of the good comments here. But it turned out really sucks. Have to say the food itself is kind of authentic. I bought a coupon from and was told it is okay to show on the phone. The waitress seemingly like owner’s wife bought me the wrong bill with the price higher than it should be my dinner. It is ridiculous as she looked innocent saying she was not the one that write down the bill. Who knows their game still didn’t end. She brought me the corrected bill with service charge added. It is absolutely NOTACCEPTABLE!!! It is disappointing not because the extra few bucks I got charged, but the feel of being cheated and mistreated as an «idiot». I am in consulting biz for years and know all the in and out for customer services. Regardless how good the product you provide, there is one line you should never cross — being honest. We are willing to trust people until the one give a REASON that he/she does not deserve our trust!

We love this restaurant! We went first with a coupon from , and have been back for the buffet several times! They have an item that is breaded and fried veggies, a dish I haven’t found since 2002 in Kuwait! The lady who runs the restaurant is just so sweet :-) Great people, great food, what else do you want?!!

We came for a late afternoon lunch before a wedding in the area. The buffet was decent with typical American favorites like chicken tikka masala and saag paneer. There was no dal or other soup and the fried appetizers were a bit rubbery and greasy. All in all, not bad, but not the best I’ve had.

We’ve phoned in the evening, the day before our actual visit to the restaurant and whoever answered the phone confirmed that they are open for the next day lunch. We traveled from Columbus with kids to visit the temple and headed straight to the restaurant. To our surprise, it was not open but we waited in that cold weather for sometime. It was close to 12 noon and they were supposed to open at 11. This is a very bad customer service that any restaurant can give as it’s the 25th Dec, all were closed. This is the main reason we called them up and checked on their availability. We left the place hungrily in search of other options after having been had the feeling that they cheated us.

Stopped in for the lunch buffet with my 7-year-old daughter. We’ve traditionally been Jeet patrons, but wanted to see what the challenger brand had to offer. Overall the food was good, but not great. The staff was very friendly and my daughter was half price, so that’s a nice perk.

WOW! This is some of the best Indian food I have ever put in my mouth. Service was bang on too. Started with the veg samosas and they were very good. Aloo gobbi was gorgeous and tasted even better than it looked. Fish curry nearly blew my mind– SERIOUSLY! Fish was luscious but didn’t lose substance in the dish. Both entrees were plenty warm with medium spice levels so only order hot if you mean it. Basmati was perfect texture and flavor too. Can’t wait to go back!

I’ve visited several Indian restaurants in the Dayton area and this one is my favorite. The meals are very flavorful and fresh. My boyfriend says they never make his hot enough even though he asks for hot but I’m a medium heat person and every dish has been fine. This is my go to place for Indian food. I’ve never had the buffet and would like to try it sometime.

Stopped in on a Tuesday afternoon around 1pm. We were the only guests at the time. The lunch buffet is very pedestrian and it appeared that it hadn’t been touched in a while as most of the entrees were crusted over. The staff may want to consider at least stirring things up periodically. One of the employees young daughters was present and standing barefoot on one of the dining tables. Definitely a turn-off. I have had much better Indian food, even in Dayton, and even on buffets. I don’t live in this area, so doubt I’d be back anyway, but would steer clear of it in the future.

I’m writing my review here, rather than«Maharaja of Dayton» because the location on Unilocal’s map for the restaurant is more accurate for this listing. However, it came up as «Maharaja of Dayton» when I found it using Google maps. Regardless, it’s the same place. Went for dinner on Saturday. I was pleasantly surprised with the complimentary papadum and chutneys. We ordered the non-vegetarian appetizer sampler, and I would not recommend it. Not that it’s terrible, but I just think the vegetarian one would have been much better. A meat filled samosa is just never going to be as good as a vegetarian one, in my opinion. Our table had a few different entrees, and they were all pretty good. Two of us remarked how the dishes we received were not at all what we were expecting, so clearer descriptions on the menu might be helpful. The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable. I can’t compare it to other Dayton-area Indian restaurants, but I’d say it’s pretty middle-of-the-road compared to the Indian fare in northeast Ohio. Not the best ever, but I would eat here again.
