Finally tried the food here and sadly was not impressed. We ordered the shrimp and grits and the stroganoff. The presentation was nice as they were both served in a skillet however both dishes were bland. The grits was lumpy and greasy while the shrimp had zero taste. Had to cover it up with a ton of Tabasco but still didn’t help the dish. The stroganoff in theory was good but the execution was way off. The beef portion tasted like old dry hamburger meat with no seasoning at all. The noodles were ok but as I hadn’t had carbs in forever I devoured it anyways bc what woman doesn’t stuff her face with pasta? Had to add a ton of pepper and Tabasco to this dish also. I think hamburger helper makes a better version. Overall I’d say the atmosphere is nice and would be a great place for drinks(their bar list is impressive) but they may need to work on their menu a bit more.

Wow. The Cuban Reuben is just about as life changing as a Cuban sandwich can be. I got lucky enough to come during brunch and opted for the cheesy grits which enlightened me to a whole new level of what grits can taste like. My buddy got the double doubler and wouldn’t give me a bite, so I can’t comment other than saying it looked delicious. I’m a happy customer and I’ll be back when I’m not working to check out the beer menu.

This is my second visit here, I really like this place. The food had always been delicious and they are knowledgeable about gluten issues. The mimosas are great too.

I’ve been to J. Wilsons once before and the food was decent at best. Ended up there tonight because Floyd’s was packed and no room at the bar,(which is what I needed since I was dining alone tonight) when I got there I spotted a place at the bar. I wasn’t slammed but somewhat busy. After about 5 minutes I finally was given a beer and a menu… Fast forward 15 minutes and all the folks at the bartenders buddies have been getting service, but not me; by this point the beer has been empty, and I’ve been ready to order for ten minutes, when finally I get asked if I need anything… Check please! You must need to «know someone» at this place to get service. PS: There were two bartenders that accomplished ignoring me, plus a tall dufus in a sports coat that split his time between standing behind the bar and bullshitting with the people sitting directly beside me. Don’t waste your time, it’s not worth the mediocre food and terrible service

I really do not know what is happening here in the culinary wasteland known as Beaumont, Texas – but now we have another Austin-like oasis of spectacular food. J. Wilson’s could easily be found in Bat City and would thrive there, thank goodness they are here and it is truly goodness that you get. No, I will not be using my «The Good, the Bad and the Ugly» format because at this eatery it is beyond good and there is no bad or ugly about it. When my wife and I saw the green-chili chicken posole we had to have it. Aside from it being just a tad salty(chalk that up to the way SET folks like their gumbo – the cardiologists love it), it was excellent. In fact, not worth making at home, you can just get some take out. We also homed in on the pork tamale skillet with an egg. This is not your normal tamale. Think Texas, think big, think nuevo cuisine and voilà, you got it. They put an egg on top, cooked as you like it and it is just delicious! Between the egg on the tamale and the green-chili posole, there is something New Mexican going on since that is how they ride there. The enchanted state awarded me a doctorate after four years of hard-labor and I grew to love the food. These two dishes will teleport you(sans the extra salt) to Las Cruces in a mouthful. I also had an ambrosial flask of cold-brew coffee and the sweetness was such that it just cut the edge off the bitterness, perfect! In fact, they need to salt the posole the same way. As a distant fan of steampunk, I really enjoyed the décor with the carbon-filament lamps and exposed hardware beams. I am really looking forward to returning for dinner and a sampling of the whiskeys. I did take a glance at the wine-list and it is one of the best I have seen. Again, awestruck with the place.

Our server was excellent and attentive. Only minor downside was finding out after ordering that the«big plates» are only available after 4pm. Our table had a half order of jambalaya, two burgers, the grilled cheese(with excellent tomato dip on the side), and chipotle chicken quesadilla. Excited for this place to grow into Beaumont’s food scene.

Tried J Wilsons for the first time at lunch this past Tuesday. Very impressed with service, food, variety of menu, and that the owner was there and stopped by to talk to us! We both had the Cuban Reuben and it was delicious! Only thing I requested was some dill pickle. It’s a little loud in the restaurant at peak hours, so don’t plan on here for a quiet eating experience. But I won’t ding them a star for that. Some people like noise.

I’ve eaten here several times already and have enjoyed it every single time. A few of my complaints are to add more steak to the flank steak salad and don’t put the same buttered up toasted bread on every sandwhich. Make sure the potatoes you serve are hot or at the very least warm. Service is a little rocky but that’s with any new place and it is a tad expensive but worth it for the twist and delciouaness you get on your plate. I would recommend the Cobb salad, flank steak salad with dressing on the side and quesidillas!

I’d give it 4.5 stars overall. 5 stars for: 1. Cold brewed coffee 2. Service 3. Serving size 3 – 4 stars for the food. My beef hash was a bit on the bland side and very greasy. My wife was happy with her jambalaya though. Nice spot for brunch, definitely recommend.

What I enjoyed most is the ambiance. Prices were a little high and food was okay. We ordered drinks, an appetizer, two main courses and dessert for about $ 90(two people). Lazy tamales, Cuban Reuben and crab flatbread. I wouldn’t order any of these again, but I’d go back to try other items! For dessert, we tried the apple bread pudding(delicious), but it would have been better with ice cream which they don’t have!!!

This place is brand new and long awaited. Glad they took the time to get it right. Bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly. Dropped in for a quick lunch early on a Saturday and ordered the special house burger made from half brisket half chuck! Tremendous flavor. Bun was fresh potato dough and just the right size and texture. Fries were handmade fried and seasoned to perfection. Will be back for dinner with friends. Thank you J. Wilsons!

It’s so refreshing to see an establishment like this open in Beaumont! I often find that the food in the area while incredible clings to a certain stereotype. That is not the case at J. Wilson’s. The food here is both delicious and beautiful! You can tell that time is taken to ensure that each and every dish is made and delivered to the customer perfectly. The Cuban Reuben is delicious and the Shrimp and Grits are as good as any I’ve ever had. Everything seems reasonably priced and I cant wait to go back and see how this place shapes up! Give these guys a try! P. S. I almost forgot to mention the absolutely amazing bourbon selection here! If you are a fan of bourbon they have pretty much everything that’s good!

We’ve been there twice so far and we’re disappointed both times. Service was good, except the first time our entrée came out before our appetizer. Our waiter last night actually told us not to order certain food items because others had complained about them. We’ve had the Ruben and grilled cheese sandwiches, the flatbread in two flavors and flank steak, which were mediocre at best. The beef stroganoff was a dried up hamburger patty over flavorless, overcooked pasta and some kind of pickled salad that did not complement the dish at all. The tamales were a soggy, wet mess with scant pork dumped to one side. Everything lacked salt and depth of flavor. We never leave behind food but we did here both times. Sad. The décor is nice.
