*** UPDATETOMUSTREAD**** Sandra.I assure you that the store Mgr for the beaumont location has not gotten in touch with me about my last review! He has no way to contact me. I Have Written THIS Big Box Retailer OFFANDWILLNOT be shopping there again! If there’s was a way to respond to your response of my review I would have. The management you have in place in Beaumont TX are less than desirable to speak with. If a response is made to me personally it better be from corporate. Again… you treat our military personnel the way my son was treated and I will do what I can for all to know. E.Sutterfield

I completely agree with the review from John D. Hit the nail on the head. However John D’s review was filtered and does not come up on the Unilocal app. You have to log onto Unilocal website and under gander mtn you have to go to filtered reviews to see it. How sad that they dont count his review in the rating.

Like most big box chain stores, you’ll find a great selection but the customer service is absolutely terrible. I go to Gander Mountain strictly for guns and ammo and always find myself in a showdown of knowledge with a firearms representative. Whether your right or your wrong, YOURWRONG! It seems as if most of these guys know very little in reference to firearms and attempt to ridicule you for calling them on their bluffs. I understand the illusion of knowledge is essential to be a good modern day salesman but seriously these guys need some better instruction. Despite all of this I have had relatively good experiences when buying their overpriced firearms due to a single salesman/manager with a great attitude. A smaller guy with blonde hair, if he isn’t there I wouldn’t waste your time. 2 Stars just because of that guy, otherwise I would of gone with zero. There are much better locally owned stores for firearms than Gander Mountain.

I travel and I am always outdoors… but I am not sure if I would travel here again for my outdoors equipment. Most recently I was passing through the area on a Saturday(a normal busy summer day), as I am living in Austin and am originally from SETx, and I decided to stop in and see what was going on in Gander Mountain… wow… NOTHING. It seems that they have some pretty high prices for the things they have(I get that. you’re paying for the brand), but the selection is anemic and bland. Seriously, I am not that critical of sporting stores… but when you walk in and you can see across the whole store for what they have in stock, that doesn’t stimulate me as a buyer. I walked in and saw some«okay» deals on seasonal items, but nothing stood out. It reminded me of an out dated second hand hunting store: — the floors were not kept — the displays were very limited — the lighting was not inviting — there did not seem to be people walking around for assistance needs — old TV displays and wires were hanging from the poles, etc. I am sure they are serving a customer base and the needs in the area, but it also seems that the Corporate Office may need to come see them and remind them of the brand they represent. Overall, I did not buy anything(I was interested in some backpack and outdoor footwear) and I figured out that if I am in the area again for fishing and other sports like Disc Golf. I will simply go down the road to Academy for my needs.

If you’re in the market for outdoor equipment along the lines of hunting, fishing, camping, marine, and other outdoor recreation products… I would strongly suggest a trip to Gander Mountain. Unlike the Academy Sports and Outdoors down the street(across I-10), Gander Mountain has chosen to concentrate their store to the outdoors; minus the sports. Whereas, Academy has spread it’s store capacity to thin to accommodate all of the sports gear, Gander Mountain’s selection of outdoor gear, guns, bows, and a wide array of clothing for men, women, and children, camouflage and field wear, kayaks and canoes far surpasses that of their competitor. Outdoor gear and equipment isn’t cheap in general, and you could probably fish(get it…) out some better deals online if your looking for something specific. But other than Cabela’s in Gonzales, LA and Bass Pro Shop in Denham Springs, LA(which are both out of the way for me) this is one of the best«Brick and Mortar» places to shop. Very good selection of guns at this location. Extra points for their website accepting Paypal, so the Rating is closer to a 4.5.
