I used a Living Social deal and purchased a 60-minute hot rock massage. It took more than 5 attempts to book my hour. I had several call backs from the proprietor after 9pm when I did not pick up my phone because it was an unknown number. Once I finally got a call back during regular business hours, I booked my appointment for more than a week out. On the morning of my appointment, I got a call from the owner telling me she had to reschedule my appointment for another day because another client had an emergency. I don’t know what constitutes an emergency massage, but changing a first-time client isn’t the best choice, I’m thinking. So, I got another appointment 4 days later. Once on the massage table, it was a good 10 minutes before I was joined by the masseuse. I looked at the clock – it started at 20 minutes after the hour.(I arrived 10 minutes early, ahead of the hour.) It was one of the strangest hot rock massages I’ve ever had. Previously, the rocks have been placed on my back to warm up the large muscle groups, and then I was rubbed down. This woman rubbed my body with the hot rocks instead of her hands – I found it weird. Maybe someone else might like it, but I didn’t, really. She finished at 10 minutes to the hour – essentially I had a 30 minute massage for the advertised 60 minutes. She also used a peppermint essential oil, which I don’t like. I wouldn’t have minded being asked if I preferred a fragrance or not. I won’t ever go back. There are spa services much closer to me that I have enjoyed much more.
