Stopped in for lunch on a Monday since we wanted something other than a chain restaurant. As soon as we walked in we were told to sit wherever we liked. We were than greeted by one server who immediately requested a drink order. With no time to look at the menu to see what they have to offer I asked for an ice tea. She returned with the drinks and BOOM are you ready to order. I haven’t even got a chance to look at the menu yet. She said there were specials on the board and the Asian food is authentic. Well having no time to look at the menu we opted for the gumbo as an appetizer, stir fry special, fried green tomatoes with a crawfish sauce and said we would like two orders of bread pudding for dessert. That was the only items I remember reading in reviews that most people liked. Since I didn’t get a chance to look at the menu before ordering, I asked the waitress to leave the menu. I figured maybe next visit I can be prepared. So as we wait for the appetizers our waitress must have gotten off. She never returned. Meanwhile a younger waitress discusses her personal problems about her boyfriend to the adjacent table.(Boyfriends name on house, cheating, don’t want to move back in with Mom). I hear the kitchen bell ring but she goes on with the stories. Felt like I was sitting on a soap opera set. Minutes pass and a impatient guy pokes his head out the pass through window and yells for the waitress. She returns with a tray with items for the adjacent table and our gumbo. Gumbo was good but was lukewarm from sitting for several minutes. Our entrees arrived a couple minutes later with our bread pudding. Really? Bread pudding for dessert we asked. So much for warm bread pudding. So we covered the bread pudding with napkins to try to keep it somewhat warm. Not successful. The food was good but considering the food was cold and the service, I would have rated them a 3.5. There was only 3 tables of two in the entire restaurant so really no reason for that to happen.

Von’s Inside Out burger is an Angus beef patty with bacon and cheddar cheese ground in and it is excellent! I’d put it against burgers I’ve eaten at some of the highest regarded burger places in the country.

We just spent two weeks on Dauphin Island(very short drive to Von’s). We usually cook most nights when we rent a beach house, but sometimes we like to venture out. After trying to find a place to eat on Dauphin Island(not one place on the island sounded interesting) we broadened our search a bit and came across Von’s on Unilocal!I can’t believe this place only has one review??? We fell in love with this place and went there our last two nights in town. Everything we had was PERFECT and our server Jaylene was awesome and super sweet. We were ready to adopt her! The first night we had diner classics like chicken tenders, a BLT and loaded cheese fries, I also had the gumbo. All of it was fresh and great, the BLT was stacked. Grabbed a lemon bar on the way out! Yum! The second night we both had their amazing Thai food. It compared to some of the best Thai restaurants in Dallas. We met the owner and she told us they grow a lot of their own produce! She was super nice too! The place is clean inside and out, the service is impeccable and the food is great and reasonably priced! P. S. We took home their Bread Pudding the second night, this wasn’t only THEBEST I’ve ever had, but ranks as one of the best desserts I’ve ever had in my entire life!

Simply the best restaurant in the Bayou at this time! It’s the best of both worlds. They have traditional American offerings like hamburgers and Gulf classics like poboys. Along with those, you can find staples of Southeast Asian cuisine like Phở or Pad Thai. They have daily menu specials that will blow your mind. A definite must try when in the Bayou. But come early, you can find a seat much less a parking spot around noon. You can’t go wrong with anything at Von’s!
