$ 60 a night isn’t too bad for this place being the only hotel in bayou la batre that isn’t in the ghetto. It was charmingly run down. The older gentleman at the front desk was a peach. Id give the customer service at this place an A+++ for sure. He walked us up to our room to make sure everything worked properly as the room hadn’t been used this week yet. It was midnight and completely unexpected. He even printed us a channel list and did a channel scan on the tv to make sure we had them all. It was a quiet little hotel with no trashy guests or tourist traps which we enjoyed. A good local dive. Now the negatives. The first beginning with calling. The staff is older so they asked us to please not use the online reservation through travelocity as it wasn’t accurate. Online we placed our reservation for a king smoking room. When we called we were told they only had two full size beds. However when we arrived we were given the king. The confusion was a bit inconvenient but doable. The room had a smell. The drapes were moth eaten as I learned the next morning when the sun shown through the holes. The sink, fridge, microwave, surfaces, tub, and toilet were spotlessly clean. The bed linens were also clean though cheap and scratchy. Here’s the kicker, quite literally. Our door did not shut without a swinging slam and did not open without jiggling the handle and hip checking or kicking it in. The hotel advertises free wifi and there is a signal… it just doesn’t have a connection. No real amenities other than a dusty coffee maker and cable TV on a flat screen. The gist of this review is the hotel used to be gorgeous and now guests can slowly watch it fade into disrepair and outdated nuance. The customer service and dedicated staff is truly what makes this place survive and worth it.

My boyfriend and I took a trip to Dauphin Island from New Orleans like many college students do. The island has only one motel that fills up quickly and the rates are high during beach season. This Inn is super close to Dauphin Island, is pretty cheap and un-sleezy, and is run by an adorable Indian couple. The room itself was much better than we were expecting for the price. Very big and clean and comfortable. 10 – 15 minute drive to the island and close to Mobile as well if you want a relatively more exciting place to go to for meals or bars.
