A «gift from the people of Russia» the teardrop sculpture was originally offered to Jersey City but was considered too large to place there. The location and placement of this memorial might be one of the most effective tributes to those who died as this isolated strip of land has a clear line of sight to lower Manhattan where the twin towers once stood and the new freedom tower is being erected. I can not think of a better spot to reflect on the world before and after 9⁄11.
