I love this place. But I also love meat. This place has great options and some even taste like meat. My wife and I order from here all the time. So many things that are delicious and very flavorful. Plus they deliver lightning fast! You will not be disappointed. Anything with seitan and those chicken-nugget-like things are amazing. Do it.

Ordered a bunch of food with my family for lunch and all of it was delicious. At the end of our meal we heard something disturbing and will never be back. It’s a shame too because the food was so good.

My delivery order arrived within 30 min and I live over a mile away. What I ordered: Bibimbap with complimentary pumpkin soup — HUGE portion size, comes with on-the-side Korean chili sauce and sesame sauce, incredibly delicious and filling. I enjoyed every ingredient in here. The coconut rice is flavorful but not overpowering. Highly recommend. Mango avocado cucumber rolls — I was surprised by how good this is. It’s a nice combo of sweet, tart, smooth and silky. It was hard to believe that there was no real sashimi inside. Recommend. Thai iced tea — this honestly tastes like any other Thai iced tea. It’s decently good and quite sweet. Not very strong. I’m not sure if this is vegan though… Will order again. Nice job, Shangri-La!

I love this place. All vegan and delicious. I’ve gone here several times and never been disappointed. My favorite is the sweet and sour soy protein. I wish there were more vegan places in bay ridge!

I’m a true carnivore. No meal is complete without meat or seafood. Thus, I was skeptical about trying a vegan chinese establishment. But I was pleasantly surprised. I’m writing this review in part because I feel like this restaurant is underestimated and underrepresented. I’ve already came back at least 4 times and I’ve been satisfied every time. Eating-in definitely beats take-out. And unlike typical chinese restaurants, i don’t leave feeling like i’ve just inhaled a tub of lard and salt. keep in mind, they have no dairy. So there is no milk in the thai iced tea, or ice cream. Everything is either made with soy or coconut milk. Their rice has soybeans in it to give it a nice texture. What to order: — Hot and Sour soup — surprisingly good. not heavy like most hot and soup soups. — vegetable spring rolls — FRESH. no freezer burn like other places. moist inside with a nice crunch on the outside –pan fried vegetable dumplings — the dumpling wrapper is green and it has edamame inside! — Orange Seitan — medallions of seitan fried and tossed in a tangy orange sauce with orange peel — General Tso’s Soy Protein — Soy Protein Platter — only get this if you dine in. It comes out in a sizzling plate — homemade Vanilla-coconut icecream give this place a try! they have coupons and discounts if you spend X amount

Pad Thai wasn’t that great. Overloaded with sauce and spice. I felt bad after and had to get a smoothie to clean up after.

In a land of a thousand Italian Restaurants and Nail Salons, Shangri-La fills a very necessary void by being the first completely vegan restaurant in Bay Ridge. The sign says vegetarian because vegan is not«cool» outside of hipster-friendly areas of Brooklyn like Williamsburg, Park Slope, and Bushwick. Anyway, politics and geography aside, this place is amazing! As someone who has been to almost every vegan and vegan-friendly restaurant in NYC, I can tell the difference between a good vegan spot and good for vegan spot. First of all, the ambiance. Flowers and candles on the table for dinner. Small but spacious. A clean bathroom. Very friendly staff. It’s not overly stuffy or pretentious. Not too loud. Not too dark. Good for casual dining or a date with the cutie from yoga. The food and presentation is where this place shines. Some reviewer said be boring and order something familiar. Don’t do that. Order a soup or salad that looks good to you and then get the Yaki Soba noodles. Amazing in flavour and beautifully plated. For dessert, I always finish with the pumpkin cheesecake and Honeybush tea. Perfection. I hope Shangri-La is the beginning of a trend of better dining options… especially vegans like me who feel like lambs living among lions.

I was coming home from the doctor and as I walked on 3rd avenue the wafting smell of oil and meat was beckoning me. Eat me, eat me! Pizza, hamburgers and french fries, bagel shops everywhere. But I held out from 93rd to 73rd, just to satisfy my new friend, tofu! My diet has changed and for no reason but too think before I eat. And not indulge in oily and massive chunks of animal carcass. I love animal carcass in any form. But hey why not vegan or vegetarian. So I entered and looked over the menu and tried the Veggie Steamed Dumplings. Also ordered lunch special of tofu with veggies. I told my new friend is tofu, so lets how how this place does it.(Hey I got 9 lbs of tofu at home) The miso soup that came with the lunch special was quite delish. The soup had tiny cubes of tofu floating in the broth with some scallions and seaweed. Hmm yummy! The steamed veggie dumplings were also flavorful with the dipping sauce. Very fresh and satisfying. Now the tofu and vegetables was ok. It had a nice brown sauce, but was lacking flavor. I would have liked to see onions or garlic added to this dish to bump it up another level in flavor. It was bland except for the celery stalks which were crunchy. The brown sauce coating the tofu and veggies needed more seasoning. JS Service was friendly and kind. I ordered some coconut rice to go. Later I will make some black bean burgers using this rice. The animal carcass will have to wait till another day. It aint ez! But its possible.

Okay i dont really write many reviews, and i haven’t in a while. but i left this place about to Vomit. Like seriously Vomit. First off, i’ll start by saying the soup was delicious. This review has nothing to do with the taste of the food. I went in on a sunday night 8:30PM, i was the only customer, i ordered a hot and sour soup cause i had it before and i enjoyed it and the kimchi. As i was eating the soup, someone from the kitchen, was hocking up loogie. Like seriously, hocking non stop, and gaging — if you want to do that in the privacy of your own home, go for it, but in the kitchen of a restaurant — while you have customers, i mean seriously. I immediately asked the waitress to tell the guy he needed to stop before i threw up, and she went to the kitchen to tell him, i then paid my bill dinner unfinished and left only to feel disgusted and saddened as i will never go back there again. If anyone in the kitchen thinks its okay to hock major loogies, i will not be dining there again.

Thank you Shangri-La for providing Asian vegan food in bay ridge! Although your prices are a little bit high for Brooklyn I would still eat from your restaurant daily. I got the bibimbap and the veggie pan fried dumplings, although I can live without the dumplings, the BBP is 10⁄10!

Delicious vegan options. The fried dumplings were great, as was the teriyaki soy ‘steak’. The lemon ginger is a nice beverage choice and the brownie with a scoop of coconut ice cream on the side was delicious. Nice to have all of these options right in the neighborhood.

I love this place– normally you would have to go down to Brooklyn Heights to get something of this quality Inn vegetarian and vegan food. I love his Hijiki salad– that’s hard to come by in Brooklyn. Great Chinese vegan food!

This is going to be an ironic review. Let me mention first that I am not vegan or vegetarian. However, I absolutely love my vegetables and starches! The days I want to eat lighter and not have meat, Shangri-la is the place to go! I order pick up at least 3 out of my 5 work days in Brooklyn. I have tried quite a variety so far. I am pleasantly surprised and impressed with every dish. My favorite dish so far would have to be Jap Chae. It is Korean style stir fry sweet potato noodles with mushrooms, spinach, veggie fish-cake, scallion, and bell peppers. I removed the peppers and added Avocado. The dish is light, flavorful, and has the slightest kick of spice. The noodles have a funny texture and look, but it makes it that much more fun to eat. My favorite items on the whole menu and in-store would be the selection of Asian teas they carry. Genmachai is my favorite. It has toasted rice mixed with the tea leaves for that warm and toasty taste! When I do decide to dine-in, I will definitely try their desserts! As for now, keep the fresh, delicious food cooking! Thanks for making dinner much more satisfying before work as opposed to a quick unsatisfying bite!

HellllllllooooooOOOOOO Bay Ridge! When I heard Bay Ridge just got their first vegan restaurant, I knew right away I had to find a reason to come by and check it out and support the community! As I mentioned, Shangri-La is the FIRST all-vegan(for that matter, even all-veggie) place in Bay Ridge or even south of the Slope on the west side of BK to my knowledge. Though their sign out front says«vegetarian», rest assure all here is vegan 100%. What a gem it is, too! Showcasing a clean, modern open décor with casual dining style finishing it off with a touch of class certainly projects the kind of image one is looking for in any casual outing for Asian fusion. Whilst here, I had the miso soup, spicy orange sauce seitan and pumpkin cheesecake; so clearly watching my figure has gone out the window(along with my figure… ahem…) The miso soup was exactly where you want it to be, balanced saltiness and earthy flavors with delicious pieces of seaweed. One thing that stood out here is the use of glassware bowls and Asian soup spoons instead of the cheap plastic kind. Another eye-catcher is the presentation(see photo). Effort has definitely gone into creating a meal that is as pleasing to the eye as it is for the palate. The orange sauce was just divine; not overly sweet like one might find in a hole-in-the-wall Chinese spot where you order through bulletproof glass or a Home Depot security door, not that I’m above that… I did minus one star because the seitan, while delicious and boasting an amazing flavor was a bit inconsistent with the texture for some reason. While most, I’d say at least 90% of it had flawless texture, there was 1 – 2 pieces that seemed overcooked and overly hard texture-wise. It’s a new restaurant, so maybe that’s just a kink to iron out for the owner/chef I’m sure and certainly nothing that would detract from the overall yummyness with this dish. I am excited to go back next time I’m in the area, and congrats again to Bay Ridge for getting your first vegan restaurant! Tip: Lunch specials from 12pm-3:30pm weekdays!

4.8 /5 A bit pricey. First time trying vegetarian food and was not disappointed. Ordered for delivery and food came quick and was still hot when I got it. Pad thai was delicious but a bit too much carrots for my taste. The General Tso’s Soy Protein was DELICIOUS, it even smelled good. Passion Fruit Lemonade was a bit too sour. Mango Lassi was good. Highly recommend the scallions pancakes that come with the mango salsa. SOGOOD. Will definitely order from here again.

Shangri-La Vegetarian is a great addition to an area of Brooklyn where vegan options are scarce. It’s clean and comfortable, with pleasant and helpful staff. The food is great, with very fresh veggies cooked just right, and tasty sauces that aren’t sticky or overly salted. There are more flavors of ice cream than are listed on the menu. Vegan ice cream in Bay Ridge, awesome! If you know the Brooklyn pan-Asian vegan restaurants Wild Ginger and Dao Palate, you’ll feel right at home here. All of them garnish their main dishes with an edible orchid flower. They share many of the same exact menu items: pumpkin soup, avocado salad, fried tofu skin wraps, eggplant with miso sauce, orange seitan, mango soy protein, Malaysian curry stew, jade mushrooms, etc etc. What’s the connection… affiliation or imitation? My waitress didn’t know. Whatever, it’s all good to me!
