Not impressed– waited 25 minutes and had to ask three times for them to refill the coffee. They could definitely use more staff on the weekends.

Very disappointing… wish the previous owners would return. I prepaid and ordered a chocolate torte with some customizing to the finishes.(otherwise I would have just pranced in and bought one from the case.) Was to be ready yesterday(12⁄23) but chose to pick up today. The line was really long as expected, but my special order cake could not be found with excuse of“we have like a thousand items in back and no one can find it.” So the staff took a cake out of the case and placed several rushed embellishments on top; said a quick“sorry” and sent me on my way. For a business that relies on word of mouth&repeat customers, this is so ridiculous. how about a discount for the inferior product. how about a cookie… the extremely long wait during the search. the complete lack of embarrassment of not being able to complete a normal task(find a special/pre paid order) Enough is enough. not what you expect for a 28.00 dollar cake when Meijers is affordable, efficient and polite. Here’s the other thing, though. as a string of us were waiting, and waiting, and waiting some more for our pre paid orders. an adorable older gentleman entered the store with much physical difficulty: limping, short of breath etc. A young female counter worker asked if she could help him, and he stated his name&said he was there to pick up an order, and was told by the staff person to” get to end of line& wait his turn.”(which begs the question. why did she ask if he needed something if she had no intentions of following through?) Well… a blind man on a galloping horse could tell what an effort it was for him to be standing, leaning on counter. and he looked so taken aback&sad&hurt, that the rest of us that witnessed this just gasped. He limped out of store, unable to wait in line. Horrible. horrible place. Shame on the new owner for what this fine institution has become. Such meanness is never called for.

A shadow of what it used to be. Will not be back — sweet memories will have to do. Much looks the same, but the delicate, buttery subtleties of old Europe have been swapped with cloying, sugary, unimaginative flavor. At the deli counter, customer service is random, sometimes veering into the comical(May I have a fork to eat this quiche with? Sure — how many?) We used to buy delicious wurst at the deli, amazing artisan breads — where has it all gone? I’m better off just going to Meijers. Battle Creek used to have a shining jewel here. Now, it’s just a dull trinket. So heartbreaking.

Very good food. Had a Florentine deli sandwich here today and I was happy with it. I asked the person at the counter what the best thing was and that’s what she suggested so I got it. After eating the sandwich I was able go to the other side and get a dessert. I got a éclair /Boston cream pie type dessert and it was amazing. I would definitely go to this place again if I visit the area.

I used to work at a place with a deli across the street that I loved. I’d order a chicken sandwich that was an actual grilled chicken breast, not just lunch meat, and warm noodle salad as a side. I had a craving for something similar and that’s how I found Continental Pasties and Deli. First off, I knew it would be pricier than Subway, but I wasn’t prepared for what I received with my $ 7.95 combo. I ordered a combo with half a club sandwich and a cup of lobster bisque(no drink included). There was no option for noodle salad as a side. They only offered it cold in their self-serve deli section for purchase separately. I got back to work to eat and I discovered that their half a sandwich is not a 6″ sub like I was expecting, but half of a round bun, as in half of a regular hamburger bun. The meat was just lunch meat. It was a delicious sandwich, but not worth what I paid. And the lobster bisque was disgusting. It was inedible. Over salted and over buttered. In the end I paid $ 7.95 plus tax for half of a half of a sandwich. For a little more perspective, the woman in front of me ordered a cookie and it was $ 1.50…for one normal-sized cookie. She was in disbelief. Even though they’re serving deli items instead of burgers, this is a fast food place, not a sitdown restaurant. I did not experience any customer service issues that others have complained about. There were two people taking orders on the deli side. I did have to wait a little bit for my food, but it was the lunch time rush. The time I waited was good for as busy as they were. Speaking of busy, this is not a place for big groups. Five or six guys came in for lunch and there was nowhere for them to sit together. The only«large» seating area was two tables pushed together, and those were already occupied by two women because there were no more smaller tables for them to sit. Finally, I want to mention one thing that is very unimportant but a little irritating just because it doesn’t make sense. This place seems to be two buildings made into one with a wall with doorways in between. On the outside, one side says ice cream and the other says bakery and deli. I walked into the bakery and deli side and it was just a bakery. The ice cream side is where the deli is. What kind of sense does that make? I’m still undecided if I’ll return to give them a second chance. Like I said, the sandwich was good, but I’ve had good sandwiches at other non-sitdown restaurants for less $$.

I’ve always known how good their pastries and cakes were, but finally decided to try them for lunch. Their sandwiches are delicious, however the customer service stinks! I was the only one at the counter waiting to order and no one was there to help me. The bakery counter is at the other end of the building, where apparently, all the workers were. I waited and waited, long enough for a line to form behind me, when finally someone arrived to take my order. Then I waited some more for my food! They seem to pay more attention to the bakery customers and just ignore those who’d like to order lunch! It’s really a shame, because the food is so good, but I’m hesitant to visit again.

I was again disappointed with the service and sandwich here. My wait to be approached for my order was extremely long even though I was the only one in line at the order area for sandwiches, etc. employees looked over and saw me, but no one bothered to come over. Finally someone came over to help me. This is not the first time for a long wait. The first time I had their Greek sandwich it was very good. The next three times I had things such as little to no feta cheese, very small portion of chicken and yesterday my parmesan focaccia bread was a hamburger bun with some parmesan cheese on top! Where is a consistency of quality here? I have been going to Continental Bakery for years and years. The new owners really worked hard to continue offering great bakery items, but have fallen short with there food menu.

Great soup and sandwich place in BC. Try it for lunch, order anything on the menu, grab a great sweet on the way out and be glad in your choice because everything is great!

Delicious sandwiches! I’ve ordered the florentine which is phenomenal and a roast beef sandwich, my husband gets a ham and cheese when we go. Best lunch spot in town! I had to edit this down to a 3 because the service leaves much to be desired. Called in my order, they got it wrong. Got a half hearted apology and a 10 minute wait for a new sandwich

I have gone here for as long as I remember. Love Just about all of their pastries. I can never seem to go in without getting their smiley face cookie! They aren’t overly priced also.

Battle Creek MI just got a little bit classier… French Macarons!!! I love this place but want to make it clear this rating is strictly for the French Macarons they have just started serving there. I travel a bit for work and have recently been obsessed with finding and trying French Macarons in every city I visit. So when I say their pumpkin Macaron is in my top five favorites, I’m not playing around. First the bite of the cookie is spot on, a little resistance and then it just collapses and melts into the filing(nothing worse than a Macaron cookie with a cake texture). The filling, also spot on, not too much pumpkin flavor, creamy and just makes you want more. All that said, their other flavors could use a little work. Like I said, they’ve got the cookie down, but the chocolate fillings are too hard and vanilla tastes awesome but the texture is a bit like frosting. The lemon, is well done but seriously that pumpkin one is worth it. Given they just started serving these a few months ago I’m confident they’ll get their fillings in great shape in no time. On a side note, great deli, bakery, and ice cream parlor too!

I’d never had a cake from here before, but we did a cake tasting for our wedding cake. It was amazing and very reasonably priced. They did everything just as we asked and we had so many compliments on it. I will definitely be back!

My Grandmother goes here all the time, the people working there know her by name, and they treat her very very well. The goodies are always fresh and tasty, it’s old world european baked goods, in Battle Creek, it’s a must stop everytime I visit.

The ice cream there is awesome. I ordered 3 scoops and it was much more than I was expecting. This place is an awesome deal for ice cream. Can’t wait to go back.

We came in from Detroit and Germany, it was my nephew’s birthday and we needed a cake, ice cream, lunch. We stopped in and got a cake, ice cream, and lunch meat. The service was wonderful, the girls even got us ice cream before that side was open. My nephew, along with the rest of the family was impressed with the cake(and the ice cream), the cake was light and flavorful, kept moist for the three days it took to finish the cake. Highly recommend them and wish they were located closer to Detroit.

I love Continental! We have been getting our birthday cakes there for over 10 years, they have always been extremely helpful and willing to go above and beyond on your order. Just recently we tried the sandwiches, I ordered the Turkey Florentine and it was amazing! The bread was fresh and so soft. My boyfriend ordered The Colosseum and he had no complaints! We bought sugar cookies for the ride home, delicious!

This has got to be the most over-rated place in all of Battle Creek. They’ve somehow won the natives over with insane amounts of sugary icing on dry baked goods. Yuck. Don’t wast your money. You’re honestly better off just stopping at a local grocery store and getting something there.

This place has THEBEST cakes ever! Lots of birthday and both my high school and college graduation cakes came from Continental. They make amazingly soft frosting that doesn’t taste too sugar-y and fill the cakes with the best creams, fruits, and gels. If I could eat cake here everyday I would. They’re more than happy to design what you want and can even do photo cakes. I also heart their smiley face cookies that change to seasonal shapes throughout the year. Too cute.
