Take a look at the pictures people have posted to see what a kolache is. Needless to say, it’s pretty tasty. They’re baked and therefore, not greasy, but I miss a little bit of texture while eating them. Lots of soft. Flavor’s good, but every one out of five is undercooked in the middle. Hence, three stars.

The irony of an eatery near home is that you never go there all the time you have been in Baton Rouge! This is(rather was) the fate of Kolache Kitchen. Recently I decided to have a go at it. # I knew prices were reasonable. So you wont be able to have a meal in one Kolache but a Kolache and an empanada(plus coffee if youre really up for it) would cost you 2.50 $ + 3.25 $ + 1.90 $. So thats pretty reasonable. And at the end of the meal you can certainly satisfy your hunger. # But then again Kolache kitchen lacks quality. The Kolaches are things inside a bread — here there are few things inside the bread(which kinda misses on the point of being a Kolache). The bread itself isnt very good either to demand so much attention also. In that sense the Kolache’s are not great. # The empanadas are better though — They have much more inside them and the crust ha sa better texture than the kolache bread. Chicken Fajita empanada was nice! # The Roncheros(Kolache’s with eggs) — were better than the simple Kolache’s. They were more filling. They open at nights during some of the game days but this is totally a breakfast place!

If you like flavorless food and sweet bread, this is the place for you. Also if you’re German.

Beware, there is more bread to their standard koloches than meat. Don’t get me wrong, the bread taste great but more meat would be better. I think the price of their breakfast tacos, cinnamon rolls, and muffins is too expensive. They all taste pretty good but comparing the size of these items to the cost, it is too expensive. The best bang for your buck is to purchase a ranchero. They are very large and one should fill you up. One thing I absolutely did not like was their fruit kolaches. Catch them at the wrong time and they will be very dry tasting. I think even if you purchased a fresh batch it wouldn’t taste great. Lastly, the customer service at this location can be hit or miss. Not much customer interaction at times because workers are too busy staring at their cell phones. If you are looking for a fast drive through experience, that is hit or miss as well.

Forget the kolaches and go for the breakfast tacos. Dee-lish and cheap eats.

Mmm the bacon and cheese kolache was huge! A great end to a great night in tigerland. Definitely made my stomach hurt because of the heaviness, but that didn’t stop me from eating a sausage and cheese ranchero kolache the next morning! A must for when you visit Baton Rouge and cheap too. At a gas station, but not necessarily gas station quality food. So don’t expect gourmet, but don’t expect bad food either! Scrumptious and greasy for a good breakfast or case of the drunchies.

One of the best Breakfast places in Baton Rouge. Wish I had found it sooner. The bread is fresh and delicious. Do yourself a favor and try it just once. The price is very reasonable. I don’t know how the chain next door still has breakfast business with this place near by.

This was the first time in my life I’ve had one of these little pieces of edible treasure. It was tasty and filling. My favorite of all the ones I ordered was the spinach, egg, and cheese. My iced coffee really hit the spot. The salsa was also very fresh tasting. The cashier seemed like he could care less about being there. When I first got my order it was missing one thing but it came out a few minutes later. Be sure to check your order. I highly suggest trying these.

Yum– you must try these. This was my second time trying a kolache, the first being in Texas, and these take the cake. You really can’t go wrong, but I personally prefer the savory kolaches to the sweet. My favorites are the bacon egg and cheese & the sausage and cheese(which tastes more like a hot dog than sausage) but the bread is what makes them delicious. Get yourself a few or buy a dozen for friends or colleagues and they will love you for it! Side note– the location is within a gas station– but don’t let that deter you– it is very clean not to mention affordable, and there is a drive through!

The kolaches would be fantastic if they used half the amount of bread. More filling/less bread! We liked the boudin kolache best but it did not have the peppery zip of most boudin.

Praise Jesus, I can finally get a Kolache in Baton Rouge. They’re quick, they’re cheap, and their food is scrumptious. Will you get the same selection if you roll up at noon? Probably not, but breakfast places usually work like that. They’re not going to make fresh batches when they’re almost closed for the day, so get there early if you’ve got your heart set on a particular item. My favorites: blueberry & cream cheese, sausage & cheese, and strawberry. Also, they give my puppy treats when she’s in the car with me. Everybody wins!

I really like kolache kitchen. Great alternative to the normal breakfast routine. The bacon and cheese kolaches are my favorite. Service is okay for the most part. On busy mornings, I typically opt to run in versus the drive thru.

Everything but Kolaches Who would of knew every one of the items except the Kolaches were spectacular? Strange, isn’t it? Well, the empanadas and rancheros are soooooo amazing! I always have to get the Chicken Faijita Empanada each time I visit. It is so cheesy and drips on my hand. Always a good sign, right? I mean it is so cheap! The empanadas are huge and for only three dollars. Those rancheros are filled, I mean filled with eggs. Such an amazing deal as well. I love that they use the kolache bread for all of their items. The bread is delicious. I am glad it is not open 24/7, if so, I would always be there.

Excellent kolaches. Clean spot located in a gas station, the menu features a range of savory or sweet kolaches, rancheros(overstuffed kolaches including egg) empanadas, and breakfast tacos as well as nice menu of coffee options Highly recommend the spicy sausage and cheese empanada and the sausage and cheese ranchero. Come get your fill here if you can’t make it to lafayette for your kolache fix

This place is kinda far from where I live but I was craving it anyways! I got the spicy sausage and cheese kolache, boudin kolache, and the sausage egg and cheese ranchero. The kolache was kind of a disappointment by far. The boudin had too much bread– not enough filling and the sausage in the spicy sausage and cheese was the same way. The rancheros are huge! And very very very good. I wish I would’ve ate those first instead because by that time I was kind of full. No good on the kolache but ranchero was the total opposite. So much filling!

Consistent quality, decent service, and excellent prices are why I keep going back to Kolache Kitchen! Kolache Kitchen is my go to place nearly every Sunday and when I bring out of town friends. The bacon ranchero is one of my top breakfast foods anywhere. However, the bottom on the ranchero where it is sealed is often under cooked. The sweet kolaches hit the spot. The empanadas are really good, but I think if they were fried, they would be exceptional! The tacos are a bit disappointing though.

I was super excited to see Kolaches outside of Houston. I used to get them for breakfast with my aunt every time I visited as a kid. It was so nice to see them again and they were really tasty. Granted, it has been a while since I had an «actual» one, but I thought they were fantastic. The bacon and cheese one was larger than the ones I remember, but the taste was spot on. Bacon was crispy with creamy cheese, and the dough was hot and sweet and soft. I also got a fruit kolache(apricot and cream cheese) that was really good, and tried a ham and cheese empanada. I was glad that the empanada had a similar dough and it was delicious. I’ll definitely be back. The price was great for breakfast and it was quick and easy. They even have a drive thru, and serve community coffee if you need some caffeine. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend it!

«It is not a gas station café». Though it is located in the same plaza as the Shell Gas station… do not get discouraged from checking it out! Wow, this place is super busy… I think I have seen the door open more than 50 times during the entire hour I sat there! I can see why… prices are great! $ 1.35-$ 1.95 for a sweet or savory Kolache. Cups of coffee start at $ 1.30+. After observing what most people ordered, the breakfast tacos were very popular. I saw empanadas on the list, so I immediately jumped on that! The Beef Fajita empanada came highly recommended by the nice lady that took my order. Wow… the empanada was huge and worth every penny! Some may think it is a little spicy, but for me, it packed the perfect amount of heat. I did not expect the cheesy, but so happy it was there… just made it all the more special and delicious! As for the Kolache, it was my first time having one and I had the plain apple Kolache(you have the option of the cream cheese apple, too), so I do not have anything to compare it to. Is it supposed to be served hot? The place was clean and very well-taken care of! It was nice to see the owner there also working hard at keeping the place nice and tidy. I will be coming back very soon! Baton Rouge needs more breakfast spots like this, where you can just hang out and meet some friends at. I love the café atmosphere and the free wi-fi! The drive-thru is super busy as well… it is nice that they have that option.
