I’m quite pleased to see La Salvadorena replace the chicken and waffle try-hard-Cane’s-ripoff joint. The food is inexpensive, fresh, and tasty. I’m grateful that there is amazing Latino food on this side of town, as most other Latino restaurants aren’t located in the LSU area.

Pros: Food portions Cons: Customer Service is very poor. I waited almost 30 minutes for my meal and it wasn’t very crowded inside and I was alone. The menu is hard to understand and the prices were pretty high. The waiter wakes by multiple times not offering a refill or checking on anyone in the place. I had to go ask for my check because I was being ignored. The overall quality is about a 2.5 but I couldn’t work myself up to lean towards a 3. Probably won’t be returning.

I really enjoyed my chicken and plantain dish. Was a lot of food for $ 10. Will come back. My only complaint is the dish was a little in the salty side, but I still enjoyed it.

Never had Salvadorian cuisine until I came here. This place is so delicious! First off our waiter was really friendly. She didn’t speak much English but she did teach us how they say the different meal options in her language. I had the flautas and a pork papusas and they were amazing. Also try the Tamarindo soda, it’s really good! Overall great experience for our first time there and I will definitely be back.

I really REALLY wanted to like this place. I would rather have given it a 2.5 star. I love Central American food… My employee and I were super excited to give this place a try, but it left so much to be desired and we were sorely disappointed with the quality and(lack of) customer service. I don’t like leaving negative feedback online but when I tried to tell our server or cashier girl the feedback, she pretended not to understand a word I said. 1) It took us at least 30mins to even get our food after we ordered. There were no «healthy» drink options or anything other than sodas. Most Latin places serve fruit water(aguas frescas) but this place did not. 2) We both ordered tamales. There was hardly any meat in them at all. My tamale was firm-ish, but hers was SUPER squishy and overly moist and she couldn’t even miser more than 2 – 3 bites. I ordered the ceviche tostadas, which wasn’t like any other tostada I have had at any other centra Americans place and not in a good way. Thank god I actually love vinegar and lime, bc they were overly sour, and the shrimp had a weird sort of mealy-stale texture to them. The fried corn tortilla itself was incredibly soggy and fell apart as soon as I picked it up. My friends pupusa was average– nothing to be super excited about, and we had to ask for the pickled cabbage. The other tables had their automatically come with cabbage… So I don’t know if they skimped on us bc it doesn’t look as we have experience with centra American cuisine or speak the language. The sour cream we ordered with the food was very watery and runny, not like the salty thicker cream from another local Latin American restaurant. Her beef tostada was pretty good, and we liked the blackbean spread, but the beef itself was cold and a little on the fatty side. The red salsa tastes like straight tomato and salt, with no other seasoning alike garlic or cilantro. The avocado salsa was a little on the spicy side for my friend but perfect for me. 3) The tables are NOT made for short people or children. I had to sit on my knees to even be able to get my elbows on the table. 4) The management, or lack thereof, was a major disappointment and offered no resolution or apologies for the unappeasing service and quality of food. We will stick to the places that serve us hot, flavorful food with all the fixings in less than half the time… Taco trucks, La Reyna, and Mr. Taco, and the soccer fields for good pupusas and other Central American snacks. Leaves me to wonder if this was a one time bad day we happened to go on, or if people who like ethnic cuisine here know what actual Central American food is. My good friend who is in a quest to find the best pupusas in BR will be disappointed that I didn’t wait to go with her, but she will be glad I saved her the trip. Being from Central America, she would have been a harsher critic than me.

Flavorful, homemade, and authentic food. Had a great experience here. We got the pork pupusas and the chicken flautas. Both dishes were fantastic, but I must say that the flautas were our favorite. It’s not something I would have picked, since you can get flautas many places in BR, but these were exceptional. The house sauce and the slaw really made the dish something to remember. Would definitely recommend!

So impressed. I enjoy trying ethnic & authentic cuisines. BR does not offer a ton of El Salvadorian restaurants so this was a delight. It is a small space but clean and livened up with Salvadorian music. The menu was extremely inexpensive. I am talking about $ 2.50 for pupusas the size of my hand! You could easily sample 3 – 4 items for less than $ 10 and have a filling meal. Everything was bursting with flavor. I had the pork pupusas(my favorite). It reminded me of a stuffed fried pancake but savory filled with pork & cheese & topped with marinated, pickled slaw 2nd favorite– Baleadea– scrambled eggs, juicy seasoned pulled beef, avocado, beans, cheese, & cream inside a homemade tortilla. My taste buds & belly were happy! Will be back!

This place just opened up the street from me and it’s a much needed addition to counter the shortage of good Spanish food in BR. Food is delicious and seems all from scratch using fresh ingredients. Prices are really cheap. Been a couple times and I’ll definitely be back Check it out!
