Steak ‘n Shake

Painfully Slow service and poorly trained staff. Management claims to be understaffed… does that make it ok? Are they ever going to hire enough people or are customers expected to «understand» indefinitely?

Very nice Steak ‘n Shake! Service was prompt and friendly and our food was good. You can never go wrong with a Frisco melt with bacon and French fries! We split an orange freeze shake that would’ve been too large for just one person.

I think this place needs more employees. We waited 1 ½ hours after ordering and never got our food! We finally gave up and left. We were not charged for the milkshake my daughter drank. So that was good!

Management is terrible. SLOW service can’t keep staff. Dirty trash always overflowing too. Very disappointing.

Awful service, horribly managed, long wait times and the food isn’t as good as other locations.

I just spent 45 min at this restaurant. Half full seating, looked to be plenty of wait staff, 5 minutes waiting for someone to seat me, 5 minutes more waiting for someone to take my order, 5 minutes more for water to arrive at my table, 30 minutes more waiting for food that never came until I finally gave up and left. What a waste of time. I recommend you go anywhere but here. My only thought is that there is no qualified person running the place so confusion and poorly trained staff and kitchen is what they are about. Wishing I had read the other reviews prior to wasting my morning

This location in Batesville, IN was very clean, bright and enjoyable. It is clearly a new or updated style of building and reminded me a lot of an old diner. I would love to see some of the Indianapolis locations updated to this style and be kept as clean. The food was consistent with SNS anywhere. The one drawback for me was that I asked the young server about the Coke Freestyle machines and if they had the drink I wanted. She had no idea what I was talking about. I’m still not clear if they didn’t have it or if she just didn’t know how to use it. She was very pleasant and we had no problems with our order. I’d stop here again if I were in the area.

We stopped at this location while heading back to Indianapolis from Cincinnati on 10÷26÷15. The look of this specific location was wonderful and is clearly a newer style. It tried to look like an old style diner and it succeeds quite well in that. I think this is a look that most locations should copy.
The food was the same as any other Steak ‘n Shake which is a good things as that is why most people go to these places. My Wisconsin Butter Burger and Cheese Fries were great as always and I enjoyed my meal.
The reason the score has been brought down though was due to service. Now, I don’t expect much at a place like this. It’s a fast casual restaurant and nothing special. That said, our server left a bit to be desired. She didn’t know their options well at all and had no clue if this location had a coke freestyle machine like some others. She was unable to answer some of the most basic of questions, seemed confused about our orders (which were basic and nothing freaky), and was very slow with bringing drinks and food and with refills. She also didn’t check back with us until we were about to leave.
Overall I would stop here again, but just hope for a different server.

Hands down, the nicest Steak and Shake I’ve ever been to. We came at midnight and the service was still incredibly inviting. It’s clean and classy. Never thought I’d rate a steak and shake 5 stars but I had to write a review after seeing it had 3 stars.

Ordered Oreo shake. More like vanilla shake with a cookie on top. Not satisfying at all.

Service and wait time is much improved. Server’s are friendly and wait time is much much better.

I’m honestly surprised at all the poor reviews for this restaurant. Although we live in Indy, business takes us to the part of the state on a nearly weekly basis, and this as become our «go to» place for a quick, satisfying meal.
I really like the open concept of this new building. The food is always good, and the service is quick, friendly, and professional. Always a good experience for us.

We stopped at this location on our way home from INDY. The place was packed. The people were friendly and the food was what we expect from a Steak n Shake. It hit the spot! Stop by. You won’t be disappointed.

The service at the drive through is very hit or miss. Wrong order? Check. 15 minute wait? Check. Burned breakfast tacos? Check. Milkshake cup not filled up? Check. «Uh, we’re not doing drive thru right now, you can come in though.» Check. Wait and wait and wait but no one ever comes on the speaker to take your order? Check.
When it first opened, it was painfully slow, but it was so crowded it was understandable. While generally the speed has improved, the service overall has declined.
I’m addicted to those breakfast tacos, the fries are great for fast food, and half price shakes in the afternoon is hard to beat. But with the service as it is, I just tend to skip it these days.

This location is VERY on point. Food was really well executed, and absolutely delicious. Will be coming back for sure!

Food is good, service at drive thru consistently fails. I’ve been to this location numerous times since it opened and everytime experience horrible service and long wait times at the drive thru. The worst part is you see a screen confirming just how long you have waited and the group of ⁵⁄₆ employees doesn’t seemed concerned a bit.
