Did you know that Batavia is home to a Glass School that draws students and teachers from all over the world?! In Batavia?! Really… Batavia… Who knew this was even here!!! An art teacher friend of mine recently attended a workshop here and was gracious enough to set up a workshop of 20 friends to come and have a tour and play with glass for a recent GNO(Girls Night Out). It was so unique and fun and just a really great experience. For $ 30, we had the choice to make 3 Christmas ornaments. For a bit more, you could make 5 glass pendants. And for a bit more than that, you could make 2 or 3 pendants and a pocket vase. I made 3 ornaments. They require 48 hours to fire in the kiln and pick up for the finished product takes a bit of time. I can’t wait to see how they come out! The instructor Lance, and his intern Amy(from South Africa– see, from all over the world! Haha!) were really helpful and encouraging. Even if you think you’re not creative, it doesn’t matter! Everyone has art talent! I’m not sure what the process if for booking a GNO or other opportunity to celebrate and create here, but it’s well worth considering. I had a blast!
