I could not ask for more in the care my 96 Y/o father received at Silver Pines. An older home, it was well maintained, charming and peaceful. I met many loving and enthusiastic people at all levels of staffing. They are careful and caring but relaxed too and cheerful. The staff at night is always willing to discuss my dad and they seemed to be well organized at all times. They have activities everyday for the residents, I saw them taking residents out for walks and the place is clean and bright. The admin folks are excellent listeners and encouraged me to talk about all my concerns. I’ve had my Dad in other places for respite nursing care, but often they did not include my Dad in activities becuase of his dementia. This was not a problem at Silver Pines. They went and got him for activities. I also observed a lot of smiles on the resident’s faces and friendly chatting going on. I’ve decided if I ever need rehab or nursing care I will go to Silver Pines.

I see that the last posted review for Silver Pines was from 2010. I am not sure if they changed ownership or management, but I certainly would not qualify the staff as friendly. As an outside vendor who travels to 25+ facilities in the area, this may be my least favorite to visit. I have a difficult time finding helpful staff members who do not seem bothered or put off. Multiple patients have complained to me on visits that they have a difficult time getting the help they need. There are a few helpful staff members that due seem to care including the DON and the social worker. Unfortunately these employees do not last for long. They are on their 2ndDON and 3rd social worker in 9 months. I would recommend Bastrop Nursing Home down the street. It may not look as nice, but the staff are much more helpful and caring to both the patients and outside visitors. Silver Pines needs to find a way to change their culture of negativity. You feel it as soon as you walk in the door.

This place is full of friendly people! The staff and the residents really look out for each other. I’ve tried the food, and it’s pretty tasty, though probably full of calories. The front porch seems to be a hit with the residents since it’s large and there’s a lot of birdwatching(birdbath and several bird nests). In the winter, they always have a nice fire in the fireplace going. The building often smells of popcorn which is nice but makes me hungry! My only complaint is the building is a little older, but the older generations may find this more comfortable than trendy newer facilities. It definitely feels homey and lived in :-)
