My husband and I have driven by this restaurant every time we have found ourselves headed toward Bastrop. We have always wanted to stop by and try it out, but had not been able to catch them while they are open. Since I had a docket in Bastrop this morning, I resolved to stop in on my way back home, and I am so glad I did. The restaurant itself is very reminiscent of the small owned Mexican restaurants I am used to back in the Valley. The couple who walked in just before me and I were promptly greeted by the owner of the establishment, and she proceeded to tend to us both. While I waited for my order, the owner stopped by my table to talk. She is really very nice. She first opened the restaurant, which was built right in front if her home by her husband, in 1999. Back then it was a side job, so the restaurant was only open on the weekends. She retired from working with the State in 2012 and has been running her restaurant full time since then. They are currently open Tuesday-Saturday from 7 – 2 and for dinner Thursday-Saturday from 5 – 9. After our lovely conversation ended, she went on to sit with the couple that had entered with me. They were regulars, and you could tell that the owner truly cared about them. She has made it a point to get to know everyone who walks in her door, and that is something you don’t see to often anymore. As for the food: I had the Huevos Rancheros plate with barbarcoa. It was absolutely delicious! An added bonus was that the flour tortillas were homemade– so hard to find in restaurants north of San Antonio. I will definitely be back for the company and great food.

Overall great experience. The waitress knew what she was talking about and checked on us frequently. It’s a small restaurant, and everything can be made to go. No problems at all, and really quick service.

We have been going to the Mexican Garden for years. The food is always great! My favorites are the cheese enchiladas and all favors of breakfast tacos. Yummy!
