OMG! When you visit and you will, you must try the Carnitas Las Cocinas! The pork is out of this world and mixed in with the goodness of onions, peppers and corn tortillas! Everything is homemade in their cute little house. It’s a very colorful interior and adds to the beauty of the place. Seriously get the carnitas with corn tortillas, dy-no-mite!

Great little place to grab lunch or dinner when I’m in Bastrop. I really like that it’s out of town a little ways.

New favorite spot! Food here is really yummy! All the times I’ve passed by on my way to Bastrop and I never thought to go in. My mom and I initially were on the hunt for tacos and I didn’t want anything from the usual spots so I got on Unilocal.Saw Las Cocinas and thought let’s give it a shot. When our nails were done we came over and ordered the stuffed avocado(me) and Carne asada(mom). We had warm chips, warm and cold salsa and queso. Good stuff! My beer mug was chilled enough so that when I poured the beer it got icy! Super cold and delicious and a great partner to my food. Also I’m super picky about the beans and rice at all mexican restaurants just because I’ve never found any I got excited about. Las Cocinas has awesome charro beans and rice. I could have eaten just that but why waste the delicious beef and cheese stuffed avocado lol. Dessert was sopapillas. I about died after those. All the sopapillas I’ve had previously were stale or too greasy but not these. Hot and fresh, just drizzle some honey on there and that’s it I can’t wait to go back lol

I chose this place for the first time the other day because of all of the high ratings and I was not disappointed. How could I have missed this place for this long. Great food. Some of the most tender beef fajitas I have ever tasted. They were like butter in your mouth. I haven’t tried a whole lot of food at this restraint yet but I soon will. Worth the short drive out of town.

After a morning movie, my daughter drove down 95 and ate here. With the chips she brought out THREE bowls. the green and red sauces plus a small bowl of queso. I was in heaven and could have easily spent the rest of the afternoon drinking my Coke and eating chips and assorted salsas. I had the lunch special #1 which was a cheese enchilada, taco, tamale, beans and rice. Rice was very favorable and was very happy with everything. My daughter had the beef fajata quesadilla and thought it was very good. Look forward to future visits. had dinner here again this evening. yumm

This is our favorite place for Mexican food in Bastrop. Portions are just right, service is quick and friendly, the kitchen and cook are visible, the food is great, and everybody we see in there is happy. Give this little known place a try.

Really good food. I enjoyed the lemonade Fresca and the #6 lunch special. Good service and clean restaurant. It’s a little off the beaten path but worth the trip.

Wow, I looked up on Unilocal reviews and this restaurant had almost five stars. Little hole in the wall, but very good. Chips were great. New guacamole with jalapenos, onion, tomato… Taco shells very fresh. Foods was hot and staff was great. Need to make this a must stop when going through Bastrop.

This place was amazing! Excellent food and great people! We showed up with 13 people on Saturday and they bent over backwards to get us seated. Every single meal was delicious — there were 13 clean plates! The margaritas were delicious as well! I feel like we stumbled on the best restaurant in the region! We will definitely come back here next time we are in the area!

One of the best Mexican spots anywhere. So worth the 3 mile drive off 71. Carna Asada is fab. Comes with a cheese enchilada with killer gravy. Order the enchilada on a regular plate so the hot iron skillet does not overcook it.

We have spent roughly $ 70 over the past two weekends eating here. At times twice in a day breakfast and lunch or lunch and dinner. Last night 11.21.15 I picked up two dinner plates. My Wife got grilled red snapper with shrimp. I got the la fiesta with chicken fajita meat, ribs and 3 shrimp. A lot of food for anyone. Neither of us finished our whole meal. My Wife said she felt the fish was old. I’m on board with that sentiment after tasting it. Our shrimp was salty too. I ended giving my Wife half of my fajita meat. The tortillas we got were hard as well… no bueno. Someone left them on the griddle to long. The ribs were drowned in bbq sauce and tasted oven broiled. I’m disappointed because this family owned business is honestly the best Mexican restaurant in the area. We will take a break and hope our next experience is better.

My GF and I drive in from Austin occasionally to eat here. Though I have only one prior review, I have eaten here many times for lunch or dinner. Last night we ate here. Busy place but outstanding service and the usual good food. They have both a brown and green salsa with chips. Both are extremely good. I often eat their carne guisada or fajitas. Both are best of class dishes. Last night I had cheese enchiladas and substituted their regular sauce for their carne meat sauces. We are talking melt in your mouth enchiladas. My GF ordered a lighter meal. Their«summer plate» which had a crispy taco, a puffy taco with queso on top, and a bean and cheese chalupa. There wasn’t anything left when she was done. It is one of her favorite restaurants too. If you are coming down from College Station on 21, or East — West on 71, it is about 5 – 7 minutes north of the 21⁄71 intersection. Very easy to find.

A real hole in the wall! That should say enough right there. Well, I’ll be nice and go into detail. Every time I’m in town for work, I have to come to this place. It’s conveniently located right down the street from where my job is. It’s easily missed if you don’t pay close attention when driving. It looks like a house from the outside, with color full little triangle flags hanging in the parking lot. The staff is very friendly so are the customers, but we do stand out a bit whenever we go in there and they are known to be a friendly town to certain group of people lol. The food is exceptionally good being not that far from Austin. Even better than some of the mexican restaurants I have been to down by the Texas-Mexico border. It’s a very small town with not that many restaurant, so if you’re in Bastrop, you have to give this place a try. it’s a guarantee hit!

This place is in the middle of NOWHERE y’all, but man is it worth almost getting rear-ended on 95 trying to find it. My husband and I were on our way back to Austin from Houston via 71 and were getting hangry when he took to Unilocal to find us a new place to eat. Fast food wasn’t going to cut it this time. It was an off time to eat so it was just us and two other tables. Service was prompt and the menu was expansive. My husband opted for the fajitas(they have so many to choose from, I don’t even know which ones he ordered), and I got the Mexican street tacos which come with beef and chicken fajita as well as chorizo. I skipped the chorizo to be easy on my stomach. The food was delicious! Both the refried and charro beans were«legit»(quoted from my husband) and the red and green salsa were extremely good. It’s only 4 or so miles off the beaten path of 71 so if you’re passing through I recommend making a pitstop for dinner that isn’t McDonalds or Buc-ee’s.

When I think of a great Mexican food restaurant, I think of a small, family owned local place like the one I grew up with. Las Cocinas is the definition of this for the somewhat small town of Bastrop. We dropped in on a Sunday night after a weekend at the races and we left knowing we made the right choice. The chips were fresh and crisp and came with two different types of dip. I wasn’t that impressed with either which is really my only complaint about the food and it might just be my preference. I really like hot, tomatoey salsa and this just wasn’t that. My brother-in-law, stepdad and I shared a sampler platter with bacon-wrapped shrimp, quesadillas, taquitos, and some kinda deep fried shrimp/stuffed jalapeño thing that was really tasty. After the sampler, my brother-in-law and I shared Fajitas with shrimp and ribs and my stepdad got enchiladas. The compliments didn’t stop throughout the entire meal. I really liked the rice and the tortillas were obviously homemade and very fresh. The service was exactly as you would expect at a small restaurant like this. The waitress was experienced and attentive. We couldn’t have asked for more. The check ended up around $ 60 with tip for the 3 of us. We didn’t have any alcohol tonight or that would have been a bit more. If you’re in the mood for a great, small-town Mexican food restaurant you won’t be disappointed with Las Cocinas.
