This is the closest hospital to my residence, and it’s a good thing that it was, because Sweet Husband Mine was admitted recently with a devastating kidney infection. Thank God he could simply walk a block or two here. With that said, this hospital has definitely improved from its old days as Maryland General(MGH). They were taken over by the UMMC system, and it shows in the obvious improvements that they’ve made, both aesthetically and in the quality of medical care. The hospital looks nicer, the attention to ER patients is much speedier than it used to be, and we were checked on consistently and without fuss. The staff, under the MGH system, was always just really surly and angry-looking and didn’t seem as if they wanted to be there — UMM, by contrast, made us both feel as if they cared what happened to us. Nice change, for sure! There are a lot more spaces in triage than I remember when I went to MGH, and they have updated medical equipment as well. Very spacious rooms! I was surprised by the quality and upgrades — this is a hospital where, while still not on par with county establishments like GBMC or St. Joe’s, you’ll at least be treated to the best of their ability. I have a lot more confidence in UM Midtown than I ever did while they were under the MGH system. The only downside(so far) is that my husband reportedly stated that they didn’t ask for his insurance card — which is not a good thing, because if we get a big bill, we’ll be fighting them re: payment. But, who thinks of this crap when you’re hurting? Recommended(with reservation because of the insurance bit).
