This is such delicious, high quality Indian. I am so grateful I work close to them. It is adorable inside, small and cozy. Saag chicken special today hit the spot in the cold. Love this place!

Hubby loves this spot and I love eating his food! If you are looking for high quality flavorful healthy food, then this is your place. Nestled on The Avenue in Hampden it offers a fresh cuisine that won’t weigh you down for the next few hours. Yum yum yum! Warning: check their hours first. Some how we managed to come often when they are closed.

Love this place — best Indian around! Nothing specific to recommend because it’s all good! Just wish they were open more evenings.

«Indian Street Fare» for real! I came in for some samosas, but chose papdi chaat and a beef kabob wrap instead. The meat was the perfect blend of spice and flavor that left my taste buds dancing. I complimented my meal with a fresh ginger mint lemonade/iced tea(what I like to call a V. J. Singh)! It was absolutely perfect!!!

Looking for a bite to eat in Hampden, and on a whim dropped in here. Could not have been happier with our choice. Tasty, well-prepared food, friendly service, plenty to eat, and reasonably priced. Will definitely go back to eat in and/or order to go. Recommend the chicken curry, but will try their other offerings on future visits.

The least authentic Indian food in town. The mango lassi was the only thing which was tasty. The kabab rolls, paranthas and chats are amongst the worst I’ve had in recent times. The ambience is decent.

Ate here 2 times. Had the beef wrap kabob, too small, but tasted ok. I went back, and tried the chicken kabob platter. The chicken was microwaved, and slightly cold. The rice was dry. Not worth the $ 11+.

The food is good, but it’s overpriced for the amount you get. I’m just excited that there’s someplace near my job where I can get a mango lassi and samosas, even if they cost a couple dollars more than necessary. The mint ginger lemonade is delicious and it’s worth a visit just to try it. Would I go out of my way to come here for Indian food? No, but it’s a nice place for a quick lunch on the Avenue.

Disappointing and over-priced. I paid $ 7 for a small wrap that was essentially a tortilla with spiced chickpeas in it. It was so small I had to go somewhere else to buy more food to supplement my lunch. Won’t be going back.

I deleted my first review after speaking with the owner and having their amazing food. The hours are limited because she is a working mom and opened this with small expectations of it being as popular as it is.(which it is deserving of) She is looking into more help to expand the hours. Having said that, the samosas were amazing, light and airy like French puffs but with a delicious curry based filling of potatoes, spices and vegetables. The best I’ve ever had, period. The Tiki Chaat wrap was good but overshadowed by the amazing samosas. I’m going to try it without the wrap and see how that goes. Add homemade teas and lemonades and you can’t wrong. Seriously, if you haven’t, you need to go here.

Pretty awesome lunch place — I’m so thankful for this menu option in my routine. The owner is also very kind. It needs a little help with consistency, but otherwise a great, cozy place and definitely worth trying.

Wow, yum, yum and double yum. I went out from working looking for a burger or something can came across this place. First, the owner is too darn nice and second, the food was wonderful! The owner picked what I was going to get, took her time and I have enjoyed every little bite(chicken curry wrap). For a simple indian take out place, this has my vote. Thank you, looking forward to coming back.

I was really looking forward to my trip to Verandah because I am a huge chaat fan and was excited it had finally arrived in Baltimore. I went with a group of friends and we walked in on a Saturday at 3:00 and told by the two young ladies, «Sorry, we’re closing.» No reason given. No sense of urgency. Not told we are out of food or the power’s out. 4 hungry people turned around and walked out never to return. Not a good first impression. I would have to hear rave reviews to ever bother going back.

I am sorry to say The Verandah in Hampden was a disappointment to me. It is a lovely place with very nice service and staff, but the food was a letdown. All we ordered was a ginger lemonade(homemade), a can of Pellegrino, a vegetarian fried appetizer, and one order of Chicken Tikka Masala for a total of $ 22. The drink was about $ 4, which, I suppose is fair market price, but still… the entrée was only $ 12! The app had a nice flavor, but was very dry. The chicken tikka tasted of cheap fatty meat & the flavors were not any better than the one time I tried to make it at home. And the rice was an abomination. Soggy Uncle Ben’s. Bummer.

Great classic Indian and also lighter Indian options. Loved the big pieces of chicken in the tikka masala. Also, the paneer parathas were delicious!!!

After running a few errands for the day, I decided to try the Verandah for a quick bite on a cold B’more afternoon. I walked up the steps and was greeted by a friendly young man behind the counter who was trying to explain the limited menu to another customer. He asked me what I wanted and I chose the Tikki Chaat(vegan) which is the cafes most popular dish. I was given my iced tea and sat down while my meal was prepared. After about 10 minutes I received a small soup bowl filled with two round potato balls swimming in a thick pool of chickpea chutney. The first bite was tasty and hot. The yummy potato patty seemed to be endless as I ate it forever along with the thick chickpea soup. One patty was enough to fill me and I decided to take the other one home for lunch the next day. Now what would I say about this food. It was definitely hearty and tasted of Indian spices. However after eating one patty and some of the chickpea chutney mixture my taste buds were bored. This was mushy food with no texture. It did not have a memorable taste that I wanted to experience again I have read some other Unilocal reviews and would go back to try the chicken kabob since someone said it was good, There was also a special of red lentil soup and ½ of a wrap with a drink for $ 8. That might have been better. It is an easy place to find on the Avenue and it occupies the space where Soups On use to reside(the soup was excellent and always tasty). There is limited seating at a few tables and it does carry out as well.

I want to like The Verandah and it’s farmer’s market sister«The Rustic Gourmet» more, but they haven’t blown me away yet. I’ve eaten there twice, and the food is solid, but nothing to rave about. The lemonade was a bit too sweet for me, plus it came in a styrofoam cup, which turned me off. Lots of potential here, and a good option for a quick bite on The Avenue, but definite room for improvement too.

I love this place! The owner is bright, cheerful, and oh-so-friendly! When my friend and I first went in and were in love with one of the dipping sauces, she explained to us exactly how to make it at home. And later, she wrote down her recipe for chicken korma for me. How many restaurants give you their recipes to try at home these days? The food is awesome. Home-style in the very best sense of the phrase. Portions are good; not so much you fall over in a food coma, but enough to make you want to come back again for more. Definitely check this place out when you’re on the Ave!

They also go to the Farmers Market in Riverdale Park, MD on Thursday’s. I became addicted to their grilled chicken kabob wraps. They are very good and filling, and delicious with the spicy chutney. Last week however they let me down. :(I got home and bit into my wrap. It was like crunching on broken glass. I fear that the lettuce and other greens were not well washed.

Hip looking dude at the Wine Source recommended this place for a quick bite. Small sparse place, with a single lady behind the counter. Got the«Chicken Frankie»; a chicken curry wrap with onions, chilies and egg. Tasty and well spiced(authentic Indian flavors and a good kick of heat). A bit messy, but how could a curry wrap not be? Will certainly check this place out again when I get a chance.
