The more time I get to spend in Mount Vernon, the more it becomes one of my favorite neighborhoods in B’more. Granted, all the neighborhoods have their own flavor/character, but the recent direction of business activity and development in the area is pretty nice to see. Today, drawn in by the bright kites and paper lanterns in the window, I wandered through the front door from the brisk day and was met by an eclectic treasure trove of interesting, curious objet d’arts. Best yet, these are ALL upcycled and recycled pieces that serve both form and function! Hooray! I walked out happy with some gifts and things for myself, and was energized to know that such a creative & green business exists!(open since Oct 2014) True, most/many of the pieces are furniture and/or art and, as such, is quite pricey… but, there are some affordable items that can fit within even the student budget. And, at the very least, it’s a fun shopping experience. I’m unsure if they ship their larger pieces(either locally or across country??; there was a restored, moderately+ priced, vintage dresser refurbished with bird paper that was making eyes at me)… but, perhaps it is better that I did not find out if they would, lest I end up on the street with only a bird dresser to hang out with. The owner, Michelle, is friendly but also gives you your space and time to browse around with no pressure. Very cool that she also does some of the pieces sold in the store herself. A great little store to visit when exploring the neighborhood.
