If you would like soap flavored dishes, with old ingredients and odd flavors, this is your place. Otherwise, skip it

I think this place must have read the bad reviews and made improvements. I ordered moo goo gai pan lunch special with fried rice and egg drop soup. While the flavor was lacking a bit, the ingredients were fresh. My coworker ordered orange chicken lunch special with white rice and wonton soup. Again the flavor was lacking completely in the wonton soup, but the orange chicken was decent. The dough for the pork wontons could use some improvement. This place would get 3.5 stars for fresh ingredients, but mainly for the price point. I would order again. Edited: Went back, food was not too good this time. A hit or miss place.

I ordered take out because the Chinese restaurant near my house is just terrible. I ordered hunan chicken. There were lots of vegetables that were cooked perfectly and the chicken was tender and great. I also ordered the fried wontons which were yummy too. The prices were great, delivery was on time and everyone was polite. I will definitely order from here again.

I was really hoping to give a good review. I use to order from them back in the day in 2009 and they were spectacular. Good and cheap! However, now they are still cheap but absolutely horrible. This is the 2nd time I have ordered in a few weeks and will now be my last time ordering. I ordered something simple. Sweet and Sour Chicken and a small fry. The fries were so over cooked and dry, I couldn’t even eat them. Next you had the sweet ad sour chicken. The only thing good was the sauce. The chicken looked and tasted old! To the point that the whole box just got trashed. I also paid for delivery. The driver told me there were no parking spaces out front and I would need to meet him at the gate. However, when I walked outside in the cold mind you to meet the driver, there was yes indeed a whole block of free spaces so he was just being lazy vs actually coming to my apartment door. No bueno for me. I won’t be returning EVER!

Let me start this off by saying I love shitty Chinese food. I was hoping this would be one of those cheap hole-in-the-wall Chinese places that is a hidden gem of greasy deliciousness– but it’s not. It’s actually just disgusting questionable meat in weird gelatinous sauces that seem to be derived from ketchup. I also never write reviews but this was gross enough for me to want to actively warn anybody deciding to go here. Save yourself the stomach ache, pick something else.

The worst food poisoning of my life. It’s been a few years since I lived across the street and got a bad batch of sushi, here. I slept on the bathroom floor. Stay far away. Edit: Apparently they don’t have sushi anymore. They did in 2009. Maybe they took it off the menu after too many people got sick. I never went back to check. It’s harder to poison people with fried food. In my mind I always change their name to «Number 2 Chinese Kitchen» — and it ain’t about the rank of the place, folks.

The food is pretty decent/average Chinese food, the dine in/carry out area is average, and the time it takes to get your food is average. Their is nothing here that is worth going out of your way for however if you want cheap Chinese food then this place is worth a try.

Ok-ish Chinese food based on standard non-authentic Chinese takeout joints. Fast service. Has all the standard menu options but I have to say the food is not as tasty as even mall Chinese food. I had sweet-and-sour chicken. Fried well, not too greasy, decent dipping sauce but the fried rice was without flavor. Shrimp lo mein kinda greasy and lacking flavor as well. Was given a free hot and sour soup that I thought was nice until i tasted it… it was neither spicy nor sour. Their version of crab Rangoon was good though. With plenty of other Chinese options close by, I probably will not be back here again.

*Note: This is a review on ordering take out.* Another lazy snowy day calls for chinese take out. I usually never get take out but today I was in the mood for honey wings and bbq spare ribs. The order didn’t take too long, about 45 minutes to an hour. The wings were pretty good I must say, crunchy and definitely sauced right. The BBQ spare ribs is where it went downhill… More than half the wings were burnt really badly. Like bitter tasting meat. There was also barely any meat on the ribs too… Not sure if I will order from here again, I’d stick to the«american«dishes.

I love their kung pao chicken. The meat isn’t weird and gross which you can encounter sometimes at other random chinese take out places — so I’m in love. I always come back here for the kung pao now. Haven’t tried the other dishes but that one is delicious.

Woof! Note to self: trust your instincts when determining a good take out spot. After reading a positive city paper review, I decided to give it a shot even though I remember saying to myself«this place worries me». I have an iron stomach and will choke down just about anything if I’ve shelled out money for it. Not here. I took one bite of the… er…“general Tso’s Chicken”. It had the gelatinous consistency of old ketchup. The beef and broccoli was covered in an equally concerning amount of brown goop. I didn’t gamble on a second taste. They get 1 star for refunding my money. Your food is gross.

I’ve never had takeout horrible enough to write a review about… But sadly, this takeout went in the trash. I would have given 0 stars if I could have… Blech.

Every time my co-workers convince me to order the lunch special from this place, I immediately regret it. Five dollars for beef and broccoli with rice and wonton soup seems as though it would be a bargain, but you really do pay for what you get. And I’m not talking about portion size. The food itself isn’t greasy and they offer brown rice as an alternative, which I really appreciate. However, the dishes and soups are completely tasteless. Chinese food was not meant to be bland! Next time, I’ll think twice and go with my sack lunch. Or just find a better place to get my takeout fix.

I had ordered from this place via . It arrived in a fairly timely fashion, and was still warm. However, it was tasteless. We ordered food for two, having an app, soup, & two entrees. It just didn’t taste like anything but grease. I do not recommend.

I used to really enjoy the food at No. 1(you know, for those cheap delivery cravings…), but recently, they have declined a bit. Though what keeps me ordering delivery from them is that they have good dumplings, though not the style that I prefer(they have the thick-skinned small dumplings rather than the thinner, crispier dumplings in other Chinese restaurants.) Also, I’ve not tried their sushi, but I’m always weary of a «Chinese» restaurant that serves Japanese food… That said, there are worse places in the immediate vicinity, so if you’re living around the Johns Hopkins campus and need a decent place for a delivery order, they’re not bad… Definitely not«Number 1,» though!

Totally standard and acceptable fast food chinese take-out. I haven’t tried their sushi, but wouldn’t expect it to be above grocery store level sushi, though they do have a chef there. edited to add: they no longer have sushi. No loss.

I don’t think you deserve your name, Number 1. Perhaps y’all should start low, so people won’t come in expecting food that is Number 1. Number 4 Chinese Kitchen doesn’t have the same ring though, does it? The«Average» — I ordered 2 dishes from them: Singapore Rice Noodles and Beef and Scallops. The total came out to be $ 18.90 for both dishes, a pint of rice, and free cheese wontons(for any orders greater than $ 15). The cheese wontons were ok. Very cream cheesy. I could only eat 2 before I got tired of the taste. And the skin was not crispy. I love Singapore rice noodles, and so I feel as if I have a good grasp of what consists of a «good» Singapore rice noodle dish(from a Chinese takeout): spice, curry, and lots of veggies and meat. Number 1’s Singapore noodles were a disappointment. Not spicy, and not much curry. There was a fair amount of meats(chicken, pork, shrimp) and veggies, but that didn’t do too much to add to the flavor of the dish. The beef with scallops dish was also a disappointment. The beef was ok, but the sauce that they used for the dish was not that good. Edible yes, and mind you, it wasn’t bad, but… something was just off. The scallops inside the dish were also not fresh, evidenced by the fishy taste(fun fact, the sign of a good, fresh scallop is the smell of corn while they are cooking). The«below average»: — The delivery took 75 minutes, 30 minutes over what they said to expect. This was on a Friday evening, around 7:45pm, so I assume that I beat the dinner rush. Still, quite a long wait for average Chinese takeout. Number 1 Chinese Kitchen is passable as a takeout place. However, I’ve had much better food(Asian Taste) elsewhere in the city. Don’t be fooled by the name, folks, this place is definitely not number 1.
