Wonderful! Captivating! Insightful! There’s so much that can be said about the artwork and the man himself. I started going because his piece «Solitude» spoke to the inner feelings of my daughter and we keep finding ways to go back and bring more of his treasures into our home! Every visit is better than the last because of his knowledge, laughter and excitement to share this talent with others! Art is like language, in that when expressed eloquently it can communicate a lot with very little. Mark Cottman will take a space and fill it boldly, vibrantly, and commandingly. His paintings appeal to me partly because many of his favorite subjects are favorites of mine… jazz, bicycling, Baltimore, love, animals, social issues. The rest of the appeal comes from his painting’s technique, style, and wit. Not one to buy artwork? You may want to order his art as trays or coasters. Yes… you can distinguish yourself with local art while entertaining guests. My friend and I were walking around Federal Hill and she introduced me to Mark Cottman’s Art Gallery. As soon as we entered, Mark greeted her like an old friend and asked her how she was enjoying the painting she recently bought. She introduced us and we looked around at the art.
The studio is very clean, open, and beautiful. Mark is incredibly personable and passionate about his art. He had a variety of artwork available, including print versions. I am not an art connoisseur exactly, but I know what I like when I see it. I was really impressed with the artwork! I fell in love with his «This is Baltimore» painting and bought the print version. It’s a great amalgamation of so many of the places and events that make Baltimore so charming: the Preakness, crabs, the Orioles.
I really love supporting local businesses and artists, so I’m happy my friend introduced me to Mark Cottman’s gallery. I’d strongly recommend that anyone looking to purchase art in the Baltimore area come here!
