The oxtails are the best I’ve ever had!!! They melt in your mouth… The cabbage is tender and flavorful, the peas and rice is also amazing!!!

Usually never review things, especially not if complaints but this one was just a whole mess. Placed a larger group order through order up, restaurant could not confirm order and did not answer phone when order up or I called. Finally I reached someone at the restaurant after about an hour, when I called from an out of state number(coincidence?). I was advised multiple times that the food was on its way. I had to call multiple times and even had to call a second number given because the original guy had no updates. It took over 2 – 2 ½ hours to get the food. The owner of the company was actually the person who ended up delivering the food. He advised that his driver had a flat tire and he had to come from PG county! The food came and was definitely luke warm and all platters needed re-heating. The owner assured multiple times we would receive a credit with order up. Two weeks later, no credit. Main complaint is the lack of communication for the entire process. Would have been nice to have been advised food may take longer due to weather(raining) and delivery issues. Also, do not promise a credit or reimbursement of some sort if you do not plan to give. The food was actually very good but the whole experience definitely killed everything and made entire experience extremely unpleasant.

Okay, so it seems like most of the negative reviews on here are from people who got their food delivered by a third party. I don’t think it’s fair to attribute poor delivery to the restaurant since it’s not in their control. With that said, Island Vybz is pretty good. I’ve eaten here about 4 times and have always been relatively satisfied. One particular time, when I was getting delivery, the restaurant sent coco bread instead of the two patties that I bought. I was never refunded the difference, but I figured it wasn’t a huge deal. I have yet to try their patties, but in all honesty they don’t look too fresh. I’m not sure if they are fresh or frozen. We shall see. I always order curry goat and have also tried the jerk chicken. Jerk was pretty good, not too spicy. Curry goat was definitely a little too salty, but still delicious. I will say that the plantains are NEVER hot. I have gone in the restaurant and gotten meals to go and it looks like the plantains just sit in a metal tin without being on a heater. I’m not sure if this is exactly sanitary(?) but it definitely hinders the tastiness of them. Location is not that great. I definitely wouldn’t walk there at night, and during the day is still a little sketchy. BUT! I am happy to have found a Jamaican restaurant so close by. My mother would be proud!

Food was ok, messed up our delivery sent food we didn’t order and forgot our patties. Delivered quickly but had to come back twice. Wouldn’t order again if I’m every back and Maryland

The food is pretty good. I personally found the jerk chicken to be very salty but the overall flavor was spot on. Not the greatest Jamaican(fast) food but still pretty decent. I have one major gripe: their delivery service BLOWS. I placed an order today and got my food over an hour and a half later, that was after I had to call to check up on it. I also had to meet the driver around the corner to pick up the food. The manager is a nice woman. They call you to let you know when your food has been sent out, which is thoughtful, but then the driver takes forever. I usually order from work. I work ONE mile away. EXACTLY one… an hour and a half…**slow blinks** I’m not really sure what the deal is here… I wish I could say this was a one off, but I’ve ordered with more of the same. I’ve never gotten the food in less than an(roughly) an hour. I would highly recommend carryout if you can do it., unless you like cold food. If I’m ever in the neighborhood I would still give it a try, but as for delivery — never again.

Horrible, tried it twice Bc I forgot how bad it was the first time, the jerk is dry and rice and peas flavorless

So I try not to hold all places that«specialize» in Caribbean food to high standards just because I’m Caribbean BUT… anyways…the food wasn’t too bad. It was a little bland for me. I got curry chicken, white rice, veggies, and plaintains. When I forked into the chicken. The inside was kind of pink so I was kind of nervous to start eating it but so far I haven’t kicked the bucket and that’s good. That’s my biggest gripe is the tasteless food. I also ordered a chicken patty and it was more air than anything else. There was barely any chicken in it… it just looked like curry mush. I may give another try. Idk yet.

I hate to give 1 star but really that’s what they deserve. My food took about 58 minutes and was cold, not warm cold. I ordered an American Jamaican classic — Curry Chicken, rice and peas and vegetables. Ordering via grubhub for delivery, the online options didn’t indicate whether it would be white/dark meat chicken in my curry dish. Although I prefer white chicken(I took my chances and ordered blindly). Yes I dark meat was delivered, ok my fault oh well. But the curry sauce was the issue, GROSS! First timer ordering — so I wasn’t expecting to be blown away, but I was at least expecting to be satisfied. Not. I can honestly say I’ve never had bland chalky bad curry. Oh and they didn’t deliver the correct drinks. I ordered 5 bottles of water, 2 ice teas, 1 ginger beer. What I got was: 3 bottles of water, 2 Sprits, 2 ginger beers and 1 Bob Marley coffee drink. I was LOLing typing the mistakes. Hahaha.

This is always my place of choice when I’m having a lazy day and don’t feel like cooking. I have been here several times and always get the same thing witches jerk chicken with rice and peas and a beef patty. The price is excellent for the amount of food you get. They will also deliver which cost 1 to 3 dollars depending on where you live. I am such a fan and will continue to give them my business.

The only reason why i didn’t give this place a five is because the regular jerk chicken was burnt and dried(we picked around it and the pieces that were not burnt were great.). Everything else we ordered was fantastic. the jerk sauce was great ! the ox tails were really really good. the service was extremely well, the came before the estimated time. I was greeted by the driver who was very very nice; i wish i had cash to tip him in addition to the tip i charged on my Card. some one from the location called us back to ensure that the delivery had arrived(this service was awesome the lady was so sweet). The Johns Hopkins family will def order from here again(every one in the office is requesting to know more about this place.)

This is the second review I’ve written for this place — it’s just THATGOOD. Ordered once months ago — really liked the food, great service, great price… but ordered this evening, and it’s just as good. Super-fast delivery through GrubHub, and the food was hot, fresh, and delicious. We had the jerk chicken combo with rice and peas, plantains, and vegetables. Fantastic, this is now a go-to place, and it’s nice to see something other than a pizza place deliver to Pigtown!

I wish I could give this place 3.5 Stars. Ordered delivery over the phone after reading reviewers’ bad Grub Hub experiences. The woman who took my order was very friendly and helpful. The food was delivered, piping hot, within 30 minutes. Appetizer: We split a beef pie, which was outstanding. The outer crust was light and flaky and the beef mixture inside was very flavorful. This is a must order item. Entrees: We tried the curry chicken and the jerk chicken(not the white meat version, which I was told would take 1.5 hours). The curry chicken was fair, but not as spicy as I prefer. The jerk chicken, however, was stellar and comes with a tangy bbq sauce that is almost unnecessary because the chicken is flavorful enough to stand on its own. Both entrees come with red beans and rice, plantains and a cabbage/veggie mixture. The plantains were a bit rubbery and, although the rice was nicely seasoned, I wish they had incorporated more beans into the mix. Bottom line: Island Vybz will be a front runner on our go-to delivery places.

Awful awful. Service and food bad. Ordered through Grubhub. 35 – 45 minutes turned into 97 minutes with no call. Order came completely wrong. Ordered jerk chicken, curry chicken, 2 coco bread and soda. Got 2 cold curry chicken(full of large and tiny bones and barely edible), 1 coco bread and no soda. Food was cold and not enjoyable. Never ordering from them again. Unfortunate because had a couple better experiences there months ago.

I love this place. The guy working the counter was very nice. Had the jerk chicken meal which comes with plantains, rice and peas and cabbage. It is some of the best Jamaican food that I’ve had in Baltimore. I will be back to try their other dishes!

I was in the mood for Jerk Chicken so I looked on Eat24 and found this place. I ordered the ¼ chicken and the seasoning was amazing. Just the right amount of heat without the feeling of their is a fire in my mouth! However the chicken was sooooooooo dry. I ordered dark meat because that is juicier than white meat– I was sorely mistaken. It felt and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. Had it been fresh I would have been super happy.

I got the large chicken curry for $ 8.50. I ate half of that delicious beast and ran out of steam. Now — like a python after an ox — I am just trying to digest all this noise at my desk. The curry was flavorful and not too spicy, served on a heaping bed of rice and beans. The meal also came with fried plantains and a cabbage salad. The shop is small, clean and only has three seats, so you should really take this meal someplace where you can avoid predators and go into your food coma.

I have ordered delivery countless times and have never been disappointed in quality of food and friendliness of service. I always get the dark jerked chicken platter w rice and peas and a beef patty for a midnight snack. It does take a while for delivery but they do warn you. I just order accordingly. If its not spicy enough add the delicious sauce they provide. I think this spot is terrific.

We just ordered delivery from island vybz through grub hub and then saw that the reviews weren’t so great on Unilocal, however, we found the food to be delicious! We ordered curried goat and jerk chicken as well as coco bread and everything arrived quickly and it was fantastic! The meat fell right off of the bone and the seasoning was excellent. We will be ordering from island vybz more often — I highly recommend it!

(10/25/2013) Got a pile of food for office lunch and they delivered it! Island Vybz is near the Lexington Market, carryout and delivery kind of place. It can take a very long time for your order to be prepared, be forewarned(and it’s stated on the menu, you should listen to them).
Overall, dishes were well-seasoned, somewhat on the salty side, but great mix of spices, only wanted a little more heat. Jerk Chicken was tender and smokey, with some great char to it. Oxtails were beefy and stewed long enough for the cartilage to be softened and chewy(in a good way), but not falling off the bone. Curried Goat was in a great Madras-style curry sauce that complemented the gaminess of the goat chunks well; goat was stewed to tenderness.
Platters(large and small) came with a ridiculous amount of rice and peas(scattering of kidney beans), a small amount of sauteed cabbage and frozen mixed veg, 2 slivers of fried plantain(if you require more, order an a la carte side). Beef Patty was the same day-glo orange pastry you find all over town, probably the same frozen product everywhere, just this one was crisped until actually flaky. Great value, love that they’ll bring a taste of the island to you.
Note: check your order before the delivery guy leaves; they forgot part of ours, but did immediately return with the rest after notified.
