Department of Vital Records

After circling around The Plaza and not being able to find the office, I finally gave them a call. It’s actually located INSIDE The Plaza, which I did not know was a mall as well, not along the outside where there are other stores and offices too. After finding out that it was located inside the mall, I had to find the entrance to the mall, which wasn’t as easy as it sounds. I went into various stores and offices only to find out that they weren’t connected to the mall. Everyone I ran into just pointed in the direction of the mall entrance. Ahhh… where is it?! I finally found the food court and entered through there.
Once I finally found the Department of Vital Records (it’s the only store inside with a long line outside the door, in the middle section of the mall), I stood in line for about 30 minutes before paying. The security guard handed out the necessary paper work to fill out, which was nice. Once you approach window #2 to pay, be sure you have you have an unexpired, government issued ID to show (or two other forms of ID) or you’ll get turned away. After paying, you wait in the small waiting area until you are called to window #4 to get your certificate (s).
The process was pretty smooth. Just be prepared to wait. However, the line to pay did move at a good pace. There were definitely some characters in there, which made the wait more interesting.

Well, it is what it is. Do we really expect stellar service when in a government office? I certainly don’t. So I review this place coming from a space of… hey, its the department of vital records. «really? really.”-seth myers & amy poehler
So…the line was long when i got there (out the door). BUT it moved decently fast. The security guard gives you the paper work you need and you fill it out while in line… so you don’t have to go fill something out while 10 people get in line before you. ;)
I was excited to get the birth certificate for our latest home birth!

AND PLEASE have your ID! I can’t believe how many people were turned away for lack of an ID :)
