Last jazz club left standing in Bmore. If you pick the performances carefully some great artists can be heard here. Average soul food at best due to rather bland seasoning. Caters to an older crowd. Have been several times and service is extremely slow if you do not fit the demographic. 4 Stars if you pick the right performance. 3 Stars otherwise.

Just visited Caton Castle to see the ‘Moon August” reunion performance.(«Moon August» are perhaps the most underrated Jazz/Easy Listening/Fusion band in the country together some forty five years and still the best in the biz if you’re into Jazz.) Caton Castle is one of the nicest jazz clubs in the tri-state area. It was our first visit, we paid in advance for our tickets and they called us to confirm. The place is very easy to find and we are not familiar with the outskirts of Baltimore. They even provide a parking attendant which is a definite plus as it’s crowded. Caton Castle offers live Jazz from 6 – 10 p.m. each Saturday and is Baltimore’s answer to the old DC One Step Down and Blues Alley. The customers are there for the music so there’s little background noise — they’re purists! The wait staff are a delight, warm, friendly and damned efficient. the food the regions finest down home cooking.(The fried oysters were out of this world) This place is what«real» Baltimore is all about. Dress code is not enforced but I didn’t see«do rags», baggy jeans or tees… just a diverse crowd of well-dressed professionals and their Moms and Dad’s having a ball groovin’…aged between thirties to octogenarian and all clearly loving the best sounds for miles. Will definitely return for a second visit and I’ll be putting this on my great live entertainment listing. Get there early as it fills up quickly. We arrived at 6.45 p.m. and there were perhaps two tables left out of a possible thirty.
