I was writing another review for a Shopper’s Food Warehouse that I frequent in the Locust Point area, and I was aghast at the number of complaints that were lodged against that particular business. Unfortunately, I had to use THIS business as a comparison, stating that«you could have it much worse». Indeed. Sadly, one could have it much worse; they could shop here. This supermarket serves a very underprivileged area, and I understand that. I also understand that if any population needs GOOD produce — fresh fruits and vegetables — it should also be located here. Sadly, this doesn’t seem to be the case. Produce is old, worn out, and obviously«leftovers». I don’t know where these products came from, but it’s abundantly clear that it’s not fresh. Prices are on the low side, which is good for those who are forced to come here, but it doesn’t make up for the lack of fresh fruit and vegetables, nor does it excuse the dismal, dark lighting or the unwashed floors. The equipment is obviously old(freezer cases and the like), but they still work — I just don’t think there’s a lot of room in the budget for repairs, should they need any. Staff is very pleasant, though, which is the main reason for the 2 stars. It really should be 2.5, but I can’t justify 3 stars — it’s simply NOT«A-OK». It’s not enough to get me to continue to shop here; fresh produce and meat is very important to me and it’s just not the case here. I wish that it were different. We need more quality supermarkets in Baltimore and less«food deserts». UPDATE: Business is closed as of 10/18/2013. No surprise.
