Was just OK. We are outside on a beautiful night. Table cloth would have been nice. I had the baked stuffed tilapia minus the sour cream. Very good and no complaints there. The clams and garlic were mediocre. Macaroni was cold, a few bad clams made it a disappointment. The calamari and shrimp/chicken pasta dishes were good and even better on day 2. The highlight were the martinis that were done to perfection and plentiful. Not sure if we will be back.

Great Bay!?! NOTSOGREATBAY! Menu is outdated, food is overpriced, the fries were soggy. It seems that they’re under the impression that simply frying something makes it good. This is a restaurant that’s been there for long enough to build a following, but eventually got complacent with the quality of their food. The dim lighting makes for an ambience that is less romantic and more creepy… like your grandparent’s basement. I’m sure they have a few loyal followers who have mediocre to low standards, but the rest of their clientele… simply victims.

Over priced. No salad with meal. My husband ordered stuffed shrimp which was dry. Twice baked dried up potato came with it. I had fried scallops with same old potato. 1 lemonade, 1 beer and no appetizer or desert with a $ 50. bill. Blah meal. Not going back. Miss Harold’s cooking, especially his stuffed shrimp.

Tried it a second time thinking perhaps better after racing season. I was mistaken, the place just doesn’t do enough business for them to have fresh fish on hand. Overpriced I guess to make up for people using coupons as well.

There are, at least, 3 dozen restaurants serving better seafood at a similar price within 10 minutes of this place. The seafood bisque was salty and filled with chewy seafood. The fake crab was the only tender ingredient. They didn’t even offer oyster crackers or saltines! My main course was a combination platter of fried clam strips and fried calamari. The fries were the best part as they were a bit above average. The clam strips and calamari were not very flavorful. it’s not that they tasted bad, they just were«meh». i could see the tartar sauce had been sitting as the top had a layer of a different color. The restaurant was not overwhelmingly busy when I was there and they claimed the seafood was«fresh off the truck 2 hours ago».

Our dinner started with a cup of bisque that was very good. salad, soso, seafood fra diavlo, shrimp, and clamari very over cooked. clams, mussles, good, pasta and sauce ok. seafood platter, fish and scallops very good. lobster tail, and shrimp way over cooked, 2 sodas, $ 80.00 ouch. then realized we never got our rice pilaf with the meal. bisque $ 7.00 per cup. sorry but with all the seafood décor i guess my expectations were way too high

Great Bay used to be our go to. The last several meals there have been less than impressive. Much of the seafood is dried out and over seasoned. The service has been sorely lacking. Slow with waitress telling us how busy they are. Tonight, we stopped in and were seated, only to be told that they stopped serving at 8. It was quarter after. So we left in search of a restaurant. We ended up at Alaturco, which is just down towards Village of Ballston spa. Let’s just say we found our new go to. Everything fresh and delicious. I would highly recommend you skip Great Bay and head to Alaturco.

My family had been patronizing Great Bay ever since their early days on West Avenue in Saratoga. But about 5 years ago, we stopped because we no longer enjoyed the way they prepared their baked and broiled fish. We preferred it a bit more well done, more firm, less dry, than they served it. Today we decided to give them another try — lured in part by an Entertainment Book coupon — and the knowledge that we don’t always have to order baked or broiled fish there(we instead had fried offerings). Our verdict: The entrees earned redemption, but there were a few things which diminished our overall experience. Our orders, crab cakes and beer battered haddock, were delicious, well prepared, and not greasy. The accompanying in-house sauces complement these well. I would order these again. We were also surprised at how quickly our orders came out, almost as if the cooks were waiting for the waitress to fire a starting gun, the moment she entered the kitchen, to start preparing our orders. One of the reasons they came out so fast — no salad. Salad no longer comes with your meal. Instead, you can order a salad separately, a large bow which includes some antipasto ingredients, served family style. Also not available with your meal: baked potato. You can get mashed, fried, or rice, or vegetables. We ordered steamed broccoli. It was still fairly crisp, and a larger portion than I’ve gotten at most other restaurants. Our dinner rolls, which came out just before our meal, were small and chewy. I heard the waitress apologizing to the table behind me, explaining they did not have steamers tonight. So… a restaurant that calls itself Great Bay Clam Co. does not have steamers available… on a Friday in Lent… Tsk. Overall we felt that the price of our meal was above average for the amount of food we received. I heard people at other tables say the same thing. Our Entertainment Book coupon helped, but you need to understand how it works. It’s not your normal dollars-off coupon. Instead it’s 25% off just the cost of your food(maximum $ 30), and an 18% gratuity is added on regardless of the size of our party. Our feeling was that with this discount, or any other discount you can apply, a meal here is reasonable. Oh, and(as of this writing) please fix the light in the little hallway in front of the rest rooms. It was almost too dark to determine which door was which, and you run the risk of people tripping.

I had been to Great Bay Clam Company(which seems to go by a number of different names, e.g. Great Bay Seafood) a long time ago when I first moved Upstate. When a Groupon for this restaurant was e-mailed to me recently, I bought it and took my girlfriend there to celebrate her birthday on a quiet Thursday night. I was disappointed that they did not have any oysters on the menu, as I would have expected, because they do offer clams and mussels. OK, over that, we shared the mussels appetizer and they were good. Not outstanding, just good — about four of them were closed and therefore inedible. As entrees, my friend and I shared the Alaska King Crab Legs and Frog Legs. The Crab Legs, for which I paid $ 42.99(!) — and they are shown on their online menu for $ 24.99 and $ 32.00, go figure — were dry and had no meat at all. Major disappointment. The Frog Legs, by comparison, were excellent. Plump and meaty, not overcooked, and just enough garlic. Yum. I recommend them highly. We shared a piece of really delicious cheesecake — I think it was butternut squash with maple — that made the day. I would have given this restaurant 2 stars because of the crab legs(I kinda feel ripped off), but the owner was such a delight that she really made the evening. She gets four stars!

absolutely disgusting. i ordered a shrimp scampi plate and the shrimp tasted like it was low tide. they did substitute it for a prime rib sandwich after they have me crap about not knowing what they call«fresh» shrimp tasted like. which i do. the prime rib sandwich was tough, chewy and tasteless. i sent it back and told them that i would rather eat the bread in the basket than what they serve for an entrée. i left there hungry and went home and made myself a REAL prime rib sandwich. anyone who thinks their food is good obviously doesnt have any taste buds.

Everything made to order. And done well. Rare tuna was excellent as were shrimp and broccoli and fried shrimp from lite menu. Menu wider than just sea food. Got there on a quiet night and service was excellent, but apparently quiet nights are rarer than the tuna. Why so few reviews?

We love this place. It is right down the road from me. The food is great and the portions are huge. I always end up bringing food home. Not too pricey either. I recommend this place

After maybe 8 years, when we had nice memories of the fish meals at Great Bay, went for lunch expecting a pleasant meal. First the waitress(tho I think owner) apologized for the fly that buzzed across the table for most of the meal but didn’t offer to move us or anything. I wondered why someone hadn’t taken care of it before seating anyone there, but we dealt with it. Anyway, steamed clam appetizer was very good, no complaints. Our glasses of water all had a slice of lemon, and so did the lemonade(koolaid style). But one of the beverage emon slices was missing the actual lemon, as if it had been bitten off. I didn’t say anything so as not to spoil the lunch for my daughter and mother. The entrees were supposed to be shrimp marinara with salad, and my daughter and I ordered the same thing; broiled scrod topped with buttered bread crumbs, french fries. The shrimp marinara was just all right, a pile of spaghetti with what looked like tomato sauce and shrimp, nothing fresh looking to it but edible. Our fish entrees, however, were tough. They had a musty flavor, didn’t look broiled. It had paprika or something on it. No buttered bread crumbs, not even sure it was scrod. One small bite was enough. The waitress had disappeared, never checked back. The fries were very greasy and looked as if they had been re-fried. Eventually, at the end of the meal, she yelled something to us from across the room, I think asking if we were finished, so I asked her for the salad that was to accompany the shrimp marinara. She said«It comes with a salad? Let me check the menu». Still not coming to our table she yelled out what salad dressing. At this point we weren’t surprised when she returned with a «salad» that consisted of old, wilted greens and a puny ¼ inch slice of tomato. But at least that got her to the table so we could complain about the fish. We said we thought it wasn’t fresh, and it wasn’t even what we ordered since no breadcrumbs. «It was spicy fish» she snapped. I repeated what we ordered, I would show it to her on the menu. Still defensive, she said it was her menu and she would show us what we ordered. When she realized her error she offered to add bread crumbs to the fish. We repeated the fish was tough and just bad, she said it was delivered that morning and she«ate it for lunch, ladies» in a very aggressive tone. She said we should have told her right away if we really thought it was bad. We told her we looked for her but couldn’t find her. Unable to argue with that she barked she couldn’t give us 2 free $ 10.99 lunches because it’s a mom and pop place. We said we didn’t ask for free lunches. She snapped«well it seemed like you wanted free lunches.» Actually, the fish was probably cooked frozen, it was that tough, dry and flavorless. There was no apology or offer of a different meal or concession on the bill, even tho neither of us ate our fish. Actually asked if we wanted it wrapped! She hung around as we paid the bill, seemed like she was making sure we paid! We left the $ 52.39 cash with no tip, still hungry. I only hope they don’t serve the leftovers to someone else. I’ve never had a more unpleasant meal or worse service.

After reading some bad reviews about Great Bay Clam Co on other sites, I was very reluctant to stop here. One of my friends was here a while ago and he had a bad experience with the food. However, as I was driving through Ballston Spa, the parking lot looked almost full on a Sunday night, so I decided to give this place a try! Located on Route 50, just north of Ballston Spa’s downtown area next to Stewart’s, Great Bay Clam Company offers a casual dining setting with several dining rooms and bar area. The menu offerings include a good selection of seafood dishes, steaks, pasta dishes, appetizers, salads, chowder(New England & Manhattan), sandwiches, and desserts. The prices are moderate, most entrees priced $ 10.99-$ 19.99 with a few over $ 20. A daily specials board is posted. On Sun-Tues, it’s pasta night at Great Bay, enjoy one entrée for two people($ 24.99-$ 26.99) served with salad and garlic bread. I was seated immediately as I walked in the door. I was seated near the small bar and I watched several police chases on the tube. It did take a few moments for someone to come over to my table to take my order. I ordered the Baked Stuffed Tilapia($ 16.99) which included a choice of starch, vegetable side, and dinner roll. I was given one hot dinner roll, which was crunchy outside and soft inside. The side garden salad was very basic which had crunchy iceberg lettuce, shredded carrot, red cabbage, 2 cherry tomatoes, and dressing on the side. The baked stuffed tilapia dish was pretty decent. The tilapia had a soft texture, with ample soft seafood stuffing(shrimp & crabmeat) though mostly bread filler and topped with a big dallop of sour cream, baked in a small casserole dish. The food was very hot on the outside, but the seafood stuffing was barely warm inside. The side of linguine was pretty good. The linguine was cooked al dente and topped with a chunky tomato marinara sauce., which had a nice flavor. I couldn’t finish my dinner, so I had the food boxed up and passed on dessert(toll house pie, strawberry shortcake, cheesecake, cinnamon raisin bread pudding, lemon meringue pie, chocolate cake), which sound very good. The service from the staff was friendly. The food took a while to be served since the place was busy, most tables were occupied as I finished dinner. My ice water glass was refilled a few times during dinner, much appreciated. The overall dining experience was decent.
