The chicken fried chicken steak is amazing! This place has great food for great prices. I recommend it all the time.

We love coming here! We always have good food and great service. The servers are nice, quick, and efficient. If you go, try to sit in Heather’s section. She will make sure everything is the way you like it!

Really great ma & pa kind of cozy restaurant! Perfect for breakfast! Great sandwiches for lunch also!!!

Great apple pie. Love going there for breakfast. The dinner menu is hit and miss at times. I have tried a few items on dinner menu and taste was lacking.

Walking in you notice it is a classic diner. Help up front was «how many» and «table or booth» server took a while to reach the table and get drinks going. But was polite.
Ok the food, what really matters. I ordered the clubhouse. Which had fresh bacon which was a great. The bread was toasted perfect and the meat was tasty. To much lettuce though only complaint.
Fries… Ok a little soggy. But the ranch was perfect made up for so do fries.
My wife got tuna salad said it was good and my son got chicken strips and he was happy.
Overall I would go here again if I was in the area but i wouldn’t go out of my way. Overall if your in the area go ahead and eat here but I wouldn’t drive across town.

Great food. We eat there often. The only issue is when you call in a order for pick up. Seems like it’s always messed

We’ve been to The Sugar Mill about 5 times over the last few years, and usually it’s a spontaneous take-​out order on the weekend. Their food falls somewhere between Knotty Pine and Milt’s, and their service can vary depending on the rush. Normally, they’d be somewhere between a 3 and 4 star review, but the dishonesty of at least one of their employees dropped them to a 2 star, and we’ll never go back.
After waiting a fair amount of time for our order (partly due to the restaurant experiencing power outages), my husband returned home with our order that was actually correct (whereas we’ve been shorted biscuits and gravy before), and we had a discussion about leaving a tip for take-​out orders. His thoughts were that since all that was done was the bagging up of our food, no tip was really earned.
Apparently, the girl who was working thought otherwise because once the charge from the restaurant cleared with our bank, we saw that she’d given herself a $ 7 tip on a $ 26 order-​despite the fact that my husband filled out the receipt and clearly marked the original total as the final charge. Keep the change petty girl because apparently you need it more than a clear conscience.

Their fries are amazing! The portions are good sized. It’s decent food. My only complaint was that the waitress was nowhere to be found when we needed a to-​go box.

Home made comfort food just like grandma used to make… That is unless grandma was a lousy cook. I’ve been to The Sugar Mill other times and they have not disappointed me yet. Solid down home cooking.
I had the senior catfish dinner which came with two side orders plus soup or salad, bread, and drink for $ 9.95. The two big pieces of cornmeal battered catfish was crispy on the outside and the flesh was flaky and tender inside. My meatball soup with vegetables had a flavorful broth and you could cut the meatballs with your soup spoon. I chose fried okra and French fries for my side orders… The more carbs the better to keep my girlish figure. My toast was nicely seasoned with bits of parsley, garlic and browned on a flat top.
After reading other reviews about the service, we must have gotten the good server because she was so patient with our group of almost 20. Senior citizens, you know how cranky old people could get but our server got everyone’s order right and she did it with a smile too. Yes, I will be back to The Sugar Mill when I get a hankering for good diner food.

Great food, horrible service .
As a former waitress, I’m very «picky» of the way a waitress or waiter handles himself. We were seated almost immediately, which was the highlight of the service. After our drinks came promptly which was great as well. But after all that it started going down hill she only came to check if we needed anything once and because it was kind of a slow day she was no where to be found. All help was in the front chit chatting amongst each other. As the same waitress seated other guess nearby she paced by and mumbled «I’ll get you another drink «(with an attitude) not that we were asking for it rudely or at all for that matter. she came back pacing (as if the restaurant was packed. which it wasn’t) and set the cup on the edge of the table nearly dropping it. Meanwhile the empty glass was left there.
Then came the food she was good (asking if we needed any condiments before leaving) then again she vanished. Came back halfway through our meal & dropped the ticket on the table and walked away. She didn’t even let us finish eating nor did she ask if we needed anything else. Unless she was planning on letting us order without the charge, it was extremely rude .
They serve large portions, delicious food & considering the price id definitely come back again… but I’d refuse that waitress (Name left unmentioned out of respect)

I don’t get to come to this place very often because it is on the opposite side of town. I forget how much I like this place. This is one of those places where you can definitely see the regulars and the staff treats the newcomers just as nice and friendly as the regulars. The menu is extensive and the portions are great. They have a good sized kids menu and serve breakfast all day. Most of the options are what you expect for a typical diner. My oldest ordered a kids pizza with fries and again he is picky and was not expecting a French bread pizza but he ate it anyways and actually enjoyed it. My daughter ordered the pancake combo and they easily substituted more eggs for the meat offered for no charge, a plus in my book. I settled on a simple grilled cheese sandwich with fries on sourdough bread and loved that they used a seasoned garlic butter when grilling it. I also added a salad which was average but they have good ranch dressing that tastes better than anything that comes out of a bottle. I will hit this place up anytime I need to eat when I’m in the northeast side of town simply because of the classic hearty portions and the friendly staff.

We are here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. I got the combo scramble, which had bacon, sausage, potatoes, cheese, eggs, and sausage. Everything was great, the biscuits and gravy that came with it were awesome. You could tell it was a homemade biscuit in the gravy have very good flavor.
The waitress was very nice and the service was awesome. They even gave us to-​go cups for our drinks when we left. The rest of my family enjoy their food as well.

Our family often has Sunday breakfast here. We usually have a party of at least 7. The service and food are always the same; great for a coffee shop! I always get the chili verde breakfast burrito. I love their chili verde! It’s better than most of the chili verde I have had at Mexican restaurants. The pancakes are light and fluffy and the french toast and waffle are as well. If you are looking for a great breakfast place with good service, thd Sugar Mill is the place for you!

First and Foremost it is not OILDALE get it right folks. Most people think anything north of town is Oildale no get yourself educated it is considered North of the River. The staff is always friendly. The food is always good and the quantities are very fair. I am a fan of chicken fried steak but most places serve the toughest cut of meat which ruins the meal. Sugar mill has another option chicken fried chicken, get the best of both or you can order the old style as well. The salads are good size and the dressing blue cheese tastes as if it is home made. I think for the price of the items and the quantity of the food given it is a very good deal. I don’t think I have ever left without taking a to go home box.

The service was excellent and the food was amazing! I ordered the French toast and the syrup was so warm and perfect! Loved this place.

my husband and I went for breakfast, i had some skillet and he had eggs an bacon with sausage, hash browns, and a biscuit with gravy. my skillet was very good I don’t recall what it was called, but it had everything in it. I love love love the biscuits and gravy. it’s a really big biscuit about the size of your fist, and they give you a cup of gravy to go with it. now the first time I was there my biscuit was hard on the outside, from being over cooked, but very soft and fluffy on the inside. the second time I came my biscuit was perfect, golden and flaky on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. my gravy was delicious not over salted, like a lot of places do. this will be a go to breakfast spot from now on.

Seated quickly and received the waters we ordered right away.
I ordered the Denver omelette, enjoyed it.
It came with country potatoes, loved.
And biscuit with gravy, eh… wouldn’t get that again.
Husband got a Burger, he liked it.
Very yummy brunch over all.
Old fashioned style and décor.
A lot of older folks seem to hang here.
Super casual.
Waitresses aren’t very attentive, our’s was friendly enough.
I wouldn’t drive out to oil-​dale just to eat here, I’m sure there are better places for breakfast and lunch.

Ahhhhh this place is amazing.
I wanted to try the Sugar Mill out a few times before leaving my review.
We have had several of the waitresses serve us. Some have a bit of an attitude as mentioned by other reviewers. I definitely agree with that.
Today, we had a gentleman waiter and he was great. Took great care of us. Took our drink order promptly, then our order and kept the refills coming. Such a sweetheart. Gave him a big tip. He deserved every dime of it too.
The chile verde omelet and the chile verde skillet are to die for. It’s crazy, but I believe this place has the best chile verde in town!!! So delicious. We can’t stay away. Keep coming back for more. The biscuits and gravy are really good also. Huge plates = huge portions. Plenty of leftovers.
This would be a 5 star review if the women waitresses could lose the ‘tude.

This place is OK. Nothing to write home about. The servers are moody I noticed. I was coming in here every day but noticed that there wasn’t much selection after a week straight. I started going to Cope’s Knotty Pine instead and was much more pleased.

Went here yesterday with family. The food was good the service non-​existant. Took 10 minutes to get 2 sprites, an iced tea and a water. Food took at least 25 to 30 minutes.
We arrived at about 8:45 am. There was about five booths taken, no tables. When food arrived one of us asked for sprite refill and smart aleck waitress says No!, that may be OK to kid someone who is her regular customer, but it was our first time there. No one was impressed in a positive way at our table. Then she proceeded to forget the refill for another 15 minutes. Fuck these smart assed waitresses, they are working for our tips and should earn the tips. If the service was even OK, I would give this place four stars.
Unless you are a fan of smartasses and sarcasm, I would not recommend.
