I’ve eaten here a few times, and it’s pretty decent. The one thing I didn’t like was the price of the BBQ sauce. It seemed a little pricey to me. Last couple times I’ve been there, I had the tri-tip sandwich. Tri-tip was nice and tender and the bread was pretty good. It’s a lot better than most of the other BBQ joints in Bako, but they could do better on a few things. I will continue to go there, and would recommend it to others.

Came here for lunch to get a burger for lunch. Got to the window and asked if the«Q» burger was their specialty? The person rudely replied«it’s not on special anymore» I then asked him what he meant. His reply to this again very rudely It ends at 2:00. Knowing that it was right before 2:00 I asked what time it was? His co-worker with a sheepish grin stated that it just turned 2:01. I give this place one star, not for the food as I left without ordering but for the amazing smell coming from the wood they burn. For the owners; I’d suggest reviewing or secret shopping your staff unless business is just that good. I’ll never return!

My wife and I tried the Pork Ribs, Tri-Tip, BBQ Chicken, Pulled Pork, Slaw & Chili Beans… It’s a solid BBQ joint with some killer smoke flavor. Growing up on Johnny Reb’s BBQ in the LBC, we knew finding a good place out here was going to be hard. Well we have found a contender here. Let’s break it down a bit… Tri-Tip = Dry and semi flavorless. I’ll avoid this next time. BBQ Chicken = Great smoke flavor and moist. Pork Ribs = Great smoke flavor but not as moist as I like them to be. Still good. Pulled Pork = F*@king Awesome! Some of the best I’ve ever had before. Slaw = Great taste/flavor. Not to sweet and not to tart. Seems to be homemade . Chili Beans = Not my favorite but still good. I personally like a Texas Red chili. All in all I give it a solid 4 stars. Screw Famous Dave’s, you need to eat here.

Must haves: tri tip sandwich. Make sure to smother in BBQ sauce and there great salsa molcajete. **Also, make sure to order on garlic bread. «The Pig» sandwich is delish! Pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw. I don’t even like coleslaw but there’s is quite tasty.

My friend and I came here for dinner today per suggestion by a friend. Right across from Target, on the busy, busy street of Rosedale, the rib shack is indeed a tiny shack with a nice mom n’ pop feel. The workers were all extremely friendly and helpful, making us feel quite at home here. We ordered the tri-tip and pulled pork combo with garlic bread and a side of macaroni salad. The food came out rather quickly, and my friend and I dug right in. The tri-tip was nothing spectacular. When eaten with their spicy barbeque sauce, it was quite tasty. The pulled pork was amazing. Perfectly tender and flavored to perfection. For $ 15 shared between two people, the meal was affordable and tasty. I would love to come back and try more of their barbequed food. Perhaps the ribs next time? Or the barbeque chicken? Regardless, I know I will be coming back here!

This is literally a shack on a busy street across from a shopping center with chain restaurants. I came here mistakenly thinking their pork ribs would be the little ones you get a Chilli’s and ordered 6, little did I know they were bigger than the beef ribs I am used to getting. They were ginormous, I ate ONE and was FULL. Tender and flavorful. Will be back again!

My husband and I ate here today! Very tasty– we are from the midwest, and I would describe it as KCBBQ, with a sweet rich sauce. The ribs were absolutely fall off the bone tender, and the macaroni salad delish! I had the pulled pork sandwich with the cole slaw on it– on garlic bread for the bun and I had to fight my husband for it back! The half chicken was good– had great flavor but getting a bit dry– we went to eat at 2ish, so it could be a product of timing. For big piles of meat it is an outstanding price– don’t be afraid of the the per bone cost– they are like dinosaur bones!(no sissy riblets here!) We will be back for sure, and the shaded area for dining is nice when the weather is good like it was today. On a hot day I would take it to-go since there is not any indoor seating. The outside area is really cute and well manicured though so a good place to eat overall!

Never had a bad meal here, can’t say I’ve ever had a great meal either. It is solid BBQ that has been consistent from my experience.

Smoked to perfection. This guy knows how to deliver smokiness to the meats! Pulled pork is PULLED by hand, the way it should be. The ribs are to die for. Best chili beans I have ever tasted. The only reason I gave it four stars? I need some Mac n cheese as a side. Qs «The Pig» pulled pork sandwhich with Cole slaw is my new favorite, which was from Newberry BBQ in Newberry FL.

Don’t miss this place. Can’t be beat. I’ve never been disappointed with the food or service. I wish there was an enclosed place to eat or maybe some propane stand heaters but it could be hailing and you’d forget about it as you sink your teeth into a rib or the«Pig,» or the Q burger, or chicken… Well I know where I’m going for lunch!

The ribs are tough as an old shoe and the food gave me the runs. Need I say more?

I hardly eat red meat any more and when I do, I expect better than what I received. The ribs and the side dishes are just okay. The things that save this place are: Fast service, great prices, and massive portions. Don’t order a lot to eat unless you plan on taking a car full of leftovers home.

The service is polite and the ribs, both pork and beef are tender and flavorful. Try this place if in Bakersfield it looks like a hole in the wall but sometimes those are the best for a bad ass lunch.

This is literally a shack next to a tire company. If you blink, you can miss it easily. The place is über casual, with benches outside and a dirt/gravel road to park on. I ordered their ribs and chicken meal and the one good thing about this place is that the portions are rather large. I thought the chicken was ok, the white meat was pretty dry and the dark meat was very close to being dry. The flavor was ok. The potato salad was only ok as well. I liked their ribs the most. I don’t know how they make their sauce, but next time I’m going to order an extra side of bbq sauce if they allow it. That stuff was really good! The best that I’ve tasted in Bakersfield. While the price is rather comparable to other BBQ restaurants, the portions here were rather large compared to other ones I’ve been to, which equates to a much better bang for your buck. I think I got a combo of beef and pork ribs, and I think the beef ribs were more tasty and the meat on the bones were more moist. I’d return here, some of the stuff is a little dry for my taste, but it’s still a good BBQ place.

This place is great! Nice, tender bbq with really affordable prices. Extremely casual. Walk-up ordering and benches right in front. No inside dining area, parking is on dirt/gravel. Nice big smoker. Small unisex bathroom, located right on the main street. Located in far from the 5 freeway.

One night not too long ago, I was traveling through CA and spent the nite in Bakersfield(a/k/a Bako, Bakersburg). B-field gets some bad raps, many of which I feel are unjustified, and chief among them is that the food is wack. Well, there may not be a high-end snooty restaurant in town that’s going to impress the precious palate of an LA food critic, but there are many things Bakersfield does quite damn well, including Basque food and BBQ. So this night I decided to investigate the latter, and happened to find that the Q Rib shack was closest to my locale. As I drove through soulless strip malls, my heart sank, but just as I was about to drive right by, the Shack caught my eye on the right, a modest shack(literally) with some gravel parking out back, some bench seating out front, and a whole lotta delicious q going on inside the shack’s small confines. They were out of beef ribs and chicken when I got there(which was, in their defense, close to closing time), so I got the tri-tip with the cole slaw and chili beans on the side. All of this stuff was just outstanding. I went for the sides first, and found the cole slaw a refreshing start, fresh and crispy and(most important) not aswim in mayo-based slaw sauce. Well done on that, Q. The chili beans are basically chili, not just beans, but they’re flavorful and pack a spicy, but subtle, kick. The bread was also excellent – garlicky and with enough smokiness that I wonder if they give it a few moments on the grill to toast(in which case, that’s awesome). But the make-or-break for any BBQ joint is the meat, and this did not disappoint. The tri-tip is a classic throughout Central CA, and this was no exception, tender and flavorful, and nicely complemented by the sauce. I also love the stripped-down atmosphere that says«we’re about the food, not about impressing you with extraneous crap.» So yeah, this place is awesome. I’d go way out of my way for chow here.

There is some regret in this review. I regret that this place replaced the defunct Sandoggies. I mean, a hot dog place with reliably good hot dogs was a find. The Q Rib Shack is good. Damn good BBQ. They certainly know what they’re doing with meat. I sincerely hope that this place isn’t a cursed location. They deserve to make it. It is a small operation making food that is way better than their location. If you love meat, and I know you do, come and enjoy. Bask in the fragrances of the grills and allow yourself to experience some damn fine BBQ. Now let’s get out there and eat!
