Pappy’s Coffee Shop

A new favorite breakfast stop! Loved the service. The staff is fast, friendly, and efficient. While you wait there’s plenty to take in. Their steak and eggs are cooked to perfection. They’re not stingy either with large portions. My only complaint would be the hash browns. Because they’re kind of bland I was not a fan.
Otherwise definitely go try their food. You won’t be disappointed.

The vibe was cool and very down to earth. The waitresses are lively and the place is always busy! I had a Bakersfield Benedict with hollandaise and a side of gravy– yum! This place serves milk in the bottle– SO tasty and fresh! Fun and funky!

Love their food!!! Went here with my baby sister she loved it too!!! Got her a kids meal they asked if she wanted w big cup (figured they were being nice as I do sometimes when I’m serving) to only see they charged me for it

I enjoyed the chocolate chip pancakes! It was fluffy and delicious. It was a 15 min wait on a Sunday morning. People definitely come in and out of this restaurant. It was pretty crowded. We also ordered the cornbread with gravy! Sooooo good! Thanks pappys!

This is one of the best cafés in town the food portions are Amazing. When you enter the restaurant you feel at home they welcome you immediately and you are seated quickly. There is a lot of cool stuff on the walls. The food is excellent it taste great and it is high-​quality. The coffe is also great they have a variety of food items to choose from breakfast is served all day they open at 4 AM and close at 2 PM. The servers are very polite you will not regret coming here bring the whole family they also support the military and veterans. Come and check it out you will not leave hungry and you will want to come back tell your family and friends to come with you. They’re located on Rosedale Highway at the corner of Karla Street don’t miss out on the great food and great environment! When you go here ask for Sarah to be your waitress she is the best.

My sister and I had the meat lovers omelet and breakfast burrito! Oh my goodness both items were delicious. I picked up my order and it was ready for me on time. Great first experience!

RIP pappy. I hope who ever took over the business can learn to do business like you use to.
Bad service, things have changed.
I use to go to pappys all the time. I went back today for the first time in a long time and I had a rude waitress, bland food, I was charged for small sides of gravy and salsa to spice up my bland food. They never use to charge for that.
I won’t be back. Obviously they don’t want my business. 3 bad dining experiences in a row. It takes a lot to turn me off of a place I grew up going to.

Great biscuit and gravy, the bacon here is awesome, waitresses are very friendly, I also have lunch here and the burgers are the best I haven’t been disappointed with anything off the lunch menu. Just some good hometown cooking that you can’t get in the Eastcoast

Well I had high hopes for this joint but I was disappointed. The waitress was very nice and it feels like a homey place but a lot of clutter but my disappointment was in the food! Everything tastes like it was out of a can or package and not even hot. I had the corned beef hash and it was barely cooked over the stove, kinda mush, and my wife had the chicken fried steak that was very bland and really nothing special. All in all, I probably won’t be coming back but like I said the people are very nice though.

This is an example of what happens when a restaurant allows new management and/​or the economy to dictate their quality of food.
My husband and I have been coming to Pappy’s for about 5 years now and it has always been excellent. Up until about 4 months ago. The food has gone downhill, and the service, while adequate, has become sub-​par. Portions that used to overflow the plates now fit. The Hamburgers Steak that used to be fresh is now pre-​formed and pre-​frozen. The Ham Steak we had last time was overcooked and dry. This place used to have 20 – 30 minute waits. No more. The last few times we have been, there was no waiting.
We have decided that we will no longer be coming back to Pappy’s. It’s been a good run and we’ve made some memories, but customer loyalty only extends to the quality of food and service.

I tried this place for the first time this morning thanks to my dad. I love breakfast, so I was excited for a new option. As we pulled up, I saw a giant oil rig painted on their sign and thought, «Only in Bakersfield…» We walked in and weren’t quite sure what to do because it was super packed and the welcome sign had been partially erased. We stood around for about 5 minutes and then overheard someone talking about signing in, so we went and signed in. It was an odd thing to me that they weren’t utilizing the outdoor patio for service on such a busy, beautiful day! We stood uncomfortably and we’re told we were next. Then eventually, someone called for another group. THEN we were called and told to sit at any empty booth, but actually jk sit over at that booth. OK. Got it.
The décor is really cool. I love a good theme that fully follows through. We sat down and I noticed they had the Irish creamer I like, so I ordered coffee (it is a coffee shop after all). My parents got soda that came in huge Mason jars! Very cool. We ordered food and the waitress walked away without hearing my whole order, so we flagged her down pretty easily and completed my order. It was pretty busy so I think she was just a little overwhelmed. I got the chocolate chip pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. My parents both got egg dishes. We all enjoyed our meals. The breakdown: I LOVED the bacon. Possibly the best bacon in town. My coffee was possibly the worst coffee I’ve ever had, and I have tried lots of coffee! It tasted like mud to me, so I didn’t even finish it. The eggs were excellent! The pancakes were so so… good batter, crappy chocolate chip flavor choice. All in all it was a good experience, but not ¹⁰⁄₁₀ for me.

We had a craving for omelets so we went to Pappy’s and ordered a all meat omelet and added spinach and some mushrooms. It’s as good a omelet as I have ever had. They let us substitute cottage cheese for potatoes since we were low carbing. The omelet had big chunks of different meats and just the right amount of cheese. It was moist and not dry. The iced tea came in a big jars and was delicious. We had great service and Pappy’s is cute like a old time diner. We definitely will be back to try the burgers. Thanks Pappy’s for a great breakfast.

If you love obscenely large portions of feel good food, this is the place for you! This local gem has been around for as long as I can remember and has become a sort of breakfast institution in Rosedale. The décor pays homage to the local petroleum industry and a good portion of the clientele still works on the patch.
I usually get the Hawaiian Freedom Toast (name changed when Franco-​American relations were strained). It’s four massive wedges of King’s Hawaiian goodness covered in powdered sugar. There is a meal option available, but I’ve never had the appetite to attempt that. If you’re ever hungry and in Rosedale, be sure to check this place out.

Went again today and tried something different. Got the cowboy benedict. Wow. I really enjoyed that combination. I think I found a new favorite dish!

I dearly love Pappy’s coffee shop for breakfast. I love the hashbrowns and that gigantic slab of ham that is to die for. I wish there wasn’t always so long of a wait, but when you’ve got a great restaurant like that it’s worth waiting for that kind of food.
The servers are always friendly and efficient and they really hustle because that place is always super busy.
There’s nothing fancy here — they have walls full of old oil field signs and all kinds of ancient things, and even dead critter heads on the walls. It’s very masculine — it looks like someplace your grandpa went to every day for breakfast before work and everyone knew his name.

This has become my favorite breakfast place in Bakersfield. The biscuits and gravy, there are no words. Soooo good. If you are a breakfast lover, make Pappy’s your new home

I am a huge fan of this place. I ordered a meat scramble and the eggs were great, the meats were great too. As always, the biscuits and gravy were also fantastic. Very flavorful gravy and freshly made biscuits.
I bumped it down to 4 stars because they were very slow to get us started. A couple behind us was seated about 5 minutes after us and were taken care of before us. That frustrates me when that happens, as the waitress passed us at least 3 times before talking to the table before us first.

I just wanted to take the time to send the owners and the staff a message. My Son was home for the Holiday and as a Tradition he eats at your place every day when he is home. Your staff recognized he was in the service not sure how they knew… but he wears two bracelets on his wrist he lost two of his friends in Afghanistan last year in Nov 2014 when he came home he has yet to take them off. So as a mother that just had breakfast at your location with her son that just came home from Afghanistan. I would like to Thank you for the great service and the kind discount that you gave us on our check. And Thank you for recognizing my Son today.

One of my favorite breakfast places in Bakersfield. Cool décor with an at home feel. I had the Pappy’s omelette this morning with grits. The food was cooked well, portions are gaudy and the waitress did not let our coffee cups get empty. I’ve never had a bad meal at this place.
