Very unique atmosphere, which is great, especially for Bakerstucky. Very good food and service was good. However, only visited once and haven’t really considered going again. So take that for what it’s worth.

Where do I start? Me and a co-worker came here for lunch. Walked in and place looked nice and surprisingly there wasn’t that many people in there. We were seated right away. Thats where the 2 stars come from. Now.I got the asada tacos and my friend got the crab salad. It took 30 mins. for a salad and tacos. The waitress came by constantly filling our already full glasses of ice tea while we were waiting. Finally when the food arrived she came by once to ask if we wanted more to drink. The tacos were just ok. Nothing special about them. Actually kinda bland. Had to cover it with the sauce, which wasn’t spicy and kinda bland itself. The meat was giant chunks and not cut smaller for better eating. My friend said her salad wasn’t that great. We get the bill and it was 32 dollars total. 32DOLLARSFORTACOSAND A SALAD? Absolutely overpriced. $ 8 for 3 ok tacos and $ 17 for a salad. I will not be returning here. The food was meh and overpriced. The service was awful. If I want asada tacos I’ll go to Dave’s or La Villa.

Ok, I have been here several times but never got around to a review until today. This will be short because I really love this place and I am in the middle of eating my super delicious lamb fries! The beer prices are a little high and the service is a little slow, but, I am more than satisfied with the over all experience this evening!

The wife and I came here last night, this being my first time ever after wanting to come for a while. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I was confident I would get great food. The inside was smaller than what I thought it would be, but it was a nice cozy feeling. Shawna and her staff are great, super friendly which makes it an overall great dining experience. The food was super good, I had the beer battered mushrooms and Fernando burger. Those mushrooms… so good, WOW! I would get that every time. Now the burger; I was semi hesitant to get it after a few people saying it was too hot. I have a pretty good hear tolerance do I thought I’d try it. First bite, wow, yeah it was hot. However, after that I was used to it. It was spicy but not over the top, I was still able to TASTE the burger which itself was delicious. My only reason for four stars instead of five is I wish their entrée menu was a little bigger. Yes, that’s lame I’m sorry but I wish there was just a couple more options is all. With that said I would not hesitate to come back, our food and experience was great!

Heard of this spot from Triple D’s tv show and since we were coming here to see some fm family we thought we’d drop in for dinner. Ordered the Fernando burger which was good and spicy along with a side of their Lamb Fries. Pretty flavorful as well. If you enjoy spicy food then I’d recommend ordering the Fernando Burger. The decorations were also nice. I love exposed brick and there were also cool autographed guitars and photos all over. Great spot to dine at.

The atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food keeps us coming back! We were seated within minutes and our meal didn’t take long to get to our table, that’s always a plus! Our waiter was very nice and attentive it was a busy Saturday night and he always made sure we were okay with everything. We ordered the Popcorn Pork as an appetizer, Carne Asada tacos and Cheesesteak with fries. The food here never disappoints! This is one of the restaurants in Bakersfield that you must try. *It’s hard to find a parking spot downtown, so the parking structure across the street between 18th and Eye St. is convenient, safe and inexpensive!

Our night had already started out awful at a different restaurant/bar. After an hour and a half of terrible lack of service we decided to walk down to the street and try out Muertos. Within minutes we were welcomed and asked for drinks. Immediately after, another waitress asked us for our drink order. We were like, «wow, in less than 5 minutes we’ve gotten more service than the last restaurant» lol. I got the carne asada fries, which are amazing. My wife got the carne asada salad, which I’ve never seen her finish a salad and it was gone! Great service, awesome atmosphere, I’d definitely recommend. And we will happily come back here and bring more friends.

The customer service was excellent, and we got a table within 15mins. The menu had a great selection of cocktails, beer, and wine. The Food selection was few, but I like less selections. The price of the burgers /sandwiche came with fries, which was a bargain. The décor was unique, and charming, and I absolutely loved it!

When you aint seen your friend in forever, you find out what her favorite restaurant is, and go there. The Duchess met me after work, and quickly suggested Muertos, as I was hankering Messican. A short Siri navigated drive later, we pulled into the last available parking space at the end of the alleyway, Muerto’s back door is located in. The ambiance is… como se dice: dia de los muertos? I would have totally paid $ 2 if they had a sugar skull face paint booth or lick and transfer tattoo. Based on an inadvertent recommendation from Cyndi’s dad, I placed an order for them lamb tacos, which were strangely delightful, with it’s many crumbles of bleu cheese. Them other taco places got nuttin on your mutton. For an appetizer, the waiter suggested their limited time spicy chile verde nachos, and lemme tell ya, it was scrumptious, albeit hot! It was a mound of yellow corn chips, topped with a very tasty chile verde with chunks of pork, cheese, and sliced fresh jalapenos, in case you craved more spice. The next day, I joined the ranks of the Fantastic Four, as the Human Torch. Flame On!

This place is great! Amazing service and amazing food. My boyfriend and I stopped by to eat on our way to Vegas. We had the shrimp cocktail and halibut tacos. Yum! For those reviews that said this is pricey, go to the grocery store and get all the stuff to make your own dinner. U pay for quality and convenience when u dine out. This place is both and well worth the money!

This has to one of my few favorite places. A group of us came here for dinner last night and even though they ran out of fries(I think everyone in my group ordered every«fry» option available) after we got our fries, hamburger buns(that didn’t stop us from ordering burgers) and eggs. I love this place it’s always so fun and the food is great. However I did try the Fernando burger and its described as a spicy burger. But the name Fernando seems unjust for the burger. I suggest they name it «WomenScorned» because it was the most hottest hamburger patty I’ve ever had. One bite and my mouth was on fire. I couldn’t even finish a quarter of it. I dare you to eat this burger. I couldn’t. The 805 is my drink of choice there

Wow! At first, the menu at Muertos might look a little small, but don’t be fooled. This place packs flavor and good eats. The burgers at Muertos are AMAZING! As in, best burger ever. I got a burger with bacon and a fried egg and I added avocado. It was juicy perfection. The flavor was perfect! The BF’s brother and dad got a spicy burger with jalapeño. He said it was real spicy but one of the best he’s ever tasted! No wussy should try it though, it packs some heat. Another thing we tried were the lamb tacos. Guy had the tacos when he visited on diners, drive ins and dives so we gave them a try! Well worth it. The tacos were street size with the most juicy and soft lamb. It was cut into cubes and topped with blue cheese and lettuce. Overall, a great restaurant! They’ve also got an extensive beer list with an IPA menu. The glasses of wine are healthy pours also.

Muertos. It was time. I’d seen people rave about this restaurant all over Unilocal and by the Bakersfield Californian’s own Pete Tittl. I, was not impressed. Upon arrival we were greeted promptly and had a table almost instantly. They took our drink orders almost too quickly. I’d like to stress that the service was perfect in our visit. The blood orange jalapeño margarita was the highlight of the night. It has a nice kick to it that can catch you if you’re not ready for it. What I Found Pedestrian The Almost Sushi Tacos What upset me was that they have so much potential. The tuna itself is cut thick and seared to perfection. Yet besides that, it was bland. The wasabi sauce, while nice, is only that, a sauce. The tacos came with lettuce but they needed more. Fresh cut onions, tomatoes and cilantro would have done the trick! And don’t forget the lime that’s a crime! My personal advice to Muertos: focus less on making the dish, «almost sushi,» and more on making them actual tacos. Garlic Fries The cheese was tasteless and the fries didn’t have a single crisp to them. Perhaps they should change the name to garlic potatoes. On the other hand, my companion seemed quite happy with her Angelo burger and I will admit that it did look appealing. I will be sure to return to Muertos to give the food another try. I may have not chosen the strongest items on their menu and they have everything else working. Why not.

Brace yourselves. This place is going to rock you wild. I love the atmosphere. There is a neat enclosed brick patio in the back that is great for groups. The main room is better for couples & very small groups. There is a bar that you can sit at as well. The food and drinks here are absolutely fantastic. I almost ALWAYS end up with the Fernando or the Ortega Chicken Sandwich. Both are super delicious. Like food coma delicious.

I usually don’t watch Diners, Dives and Drive-Ins but caught a bit of it and mentioned this place so I gave it a shot. Have to say it was amazing! Started with the Popcorn Pork and it was great. The sever said to use the extreme hot sauce featured on the show and it was really good. Wasn’t overpowering and let the flavor of the pork come through. One thing, eat them quick as they get colder they lose some flavor. Next up, from the show as well, was the lamb tacos. Yes, lamb tacos. They were topped with blue cheese and while it sounds ‘simple’ they were very flavorful and the lamb was great. Probably the third time I’ve ever had lamb but would get it more at other places. Didn’t have desert but overall it was tremendous foot and would recommend it to others.

Hidden away in an alleyway is Muertos. Natives are familiar with it because the owners and masterminds behind the establishment are known for a handful of other successful culinary ventures in the city. The place is small but cozy. The staff is friendly with edge. And oddly enough everything that’s been featured in the newspaper and TV(Triple D) is not their best fare. It might actually be their weakest foot forward. The lamb tacos are more mini-gyros than Mediterranean/Mexican fusion. The pork popcorn are more or less overcooked morsels of potentially delicious meat served with a meager(~2 tablespoons maybe) signature side sauce. What really draws me in is the burgers. With the exception of the steak burger, everything is delicious. Probably the best cheeseburger in town especially the moist, juicy patties. The fries are nothing to write home however. And the drinks selection is well thought out. Overall I enjoy this place. Definitely gets busy at times and I would avoid it like the plague on Friday-Saturday, as service suffers exponentially in relation to occupied seats. I’d suggest hiring more staff but given the space, it’s not feasible.

Excellent food, service is alright but very pricey. I am starting to venture out to Bakersfield more since I have family living over there and my first stop I decided to go to this place. Muerto’s caught my eye through YouTube of course, and had it’s shine through national television with Guy Fieri. If you don’t know who he is, you probably not a true foodie since he is a great host and foodie. Okay, the establishment looks totally a hole-in-wall joint that is located through an backdoor alley, which was nice to see something new… didn’t bother me and I kinda liked it. I definitely loved the interior, had a rock-n-roll, Gothic and Mexican theme mashed up together. Love the black tho. It’s not a huge place but a good size. Tables and the bar are very close to each other. Lighting was dark and moody, but didn’t bother me, for the summer is the best because it keeps the heat away. I went by the YouTube video and ordered the Popcorn Pork which was DELICIOUS, probably the best fried chunks of carnita’s I ever had. The dipping sauce went hand-to-hand with the flavor so it complemented the meat. For my entrée I got three tacos of Lamb. It was delicious and I never had Lamb tacos before especially with the type of cheese they use, so it got thumbs up in my book. Now for the negatives is the service. There is a a lot of workers for this small establishment, almost two or three workers over the limit for the, ‘jobs’ they seemed to performed. Some employees seemed to chat TOO much about personal life issues and kept wiping the same spots over and over to act like they doing something. The fountain drinks I received were flat and complained about it but received another that was flat also, so I just got a tea for pete’s sake. The owner was present also and also seemed not to do anything other than chat to her worker’s. Maybe the food would of came a little faster, took a little while but to me it was worth it since both items were delicious and fresh. Okay last but not least is the price. The PRICE baby, was extremely high for the food, especially tacos. I don’t think three tacos should be worth $ 13.00 dollars but hey, nothing’s perfect and hopefully it lowers down a bit. I loved the food, I have no problems with it. I want to return, and I will. I rate this place 3.0

I think Muertos has it dialed in. It knows itself, and stays true to that. There is a clear Dia de los Muertos influence, and the décor is a mixture of iconography from that, and from a jazz and blues background. It’s cozy, there are lots of fantastic beers on tab as well as a solid norcal wine list. I had the basque lamb tacos(there is a sizable basque influence here in Bakersfield), and a side salad. I found the meat to be well cooked without being gamey, and the goat cheese it was paired with was a good compliment. I would say that overall this is definitely a 4 star experience. I’d love to try out some of their burgers, which look to be fantastic. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable, and even our hostess checked into see how we were doing. A solid 4 stars!
